  1. I was so relieved when I found out my insurance did not have that 1 or 2 years of medical records requirement. I have lived in 4 states in the last 2 years and that would have been a disaster!

    Urgent.. Help with BCBS

I hope this wasn't Novant's mistake because that is the hospital network my primary and surgeon are in that I am using
  3. My surgeon's office told me that they go by your starting weight at your initial consult for insurance approval. Hearing that definitely put me at ease. There is no weight loss requirement for my insurance or surgeon. However, my insurance does require a 6 month medically supervised weight loss.

Having Gastric Sleeve and I’m scared!

I love meeting young sleevers! I am 23 and my highest weight was 230. I am still in my 6 month diet mandated by my insurance but I am hoping to have surgery in late April or May. Just remember that there will be plenty of pain meds to keep you comfortable...don’t be stubborn and tell them you’re fine when you’re not! And walking HELPS gas and speeds up recovery. My mom had a blood clot in her leg and multiple pulmonary embolisms in April of last year so that fear is in the back of my mind. But I trust my doctors and will do everything they tell me to. Go into surgery thinking positive!!

    Exercise and Nutrtional Insurance approval

The nutritionist at my surgeon’s office requires us to keep a log as well. I’ve been using myfitnesspal because they can link it up to your mychart account

    6 month supervised weight loss

So I just talked to my insurance, Anthem Bcbs...they said the first appointment has to be with a nutritionist but the rest can be with your primary doctor to “monitor your diet”
  7. I am hoping for April too. My 6 months will be by then for insurance. I had my first exercise consult yesterday and I have nutritionist next week. Hoping they go quick. My insurance and surgery center just require clearance from them

    WF BCBS Covers Sleeve?

The 2018 benefits book for my employer just came out and it says “if pre-service authorization is received, the medical plans cover gastric bypass or lap band surgery if specific criteria are met” slightly nervous. But my patient coordinator at my surgery center knows I want the sleeve and provided me with my insurance requirements. Maybe it’s just poor wording?

    6 month supervised weight loss

We are almost identical! I have PCOS and insulin resistance, we're very close in height and weight. I am also planning on the sleeve. My six months are not up until April. I had my exercise consult today. Nutritionist next week, EGD week after that, sleep study, primary and EKG the next week, exercise follow up the week after that. I will say that the athletic trainer I met with today was very positive and I left feeling excited.

    6 month supervised weight loss

I honestly needed this six months to get all the appointments and tests in that are required. It seems like I have appointment every week, sometimes two, for the next 6 weeks.

    Got my consult date....

Congrats on this big step! It only gets more exciting from here. My surgeon’s office was able to tell me my insurance requirements and costs during my consult visit as well, if you don’t already know them
  12. My surgeon’s office requires an exercise clearance with a trainer before surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Exercise Clearance

Unfortunately the surgery clinic I am using usually only has morning appointments, sometimes afternoon. I think things tend to fill up fast

    Exercise Clearance

I just got back from my appointment. You spend 45 minutes talking to an athletic trainer and discussing goals. They ask the basic why surgery questions and ask about your past with exercise. We discussed goals and started to set up a exercise plan. I do have to follow up again in 4 weeks. How does everyone make all these appointments while working full time???
  15. Is he insecure? He may want to keep you bigger to avoid fear of losing you
  16. My surgeon says in the last few years he has taken more lap bands out than he has put in.

    Surgery improve PCOS?

Does weight loss surgery really improve PCOS? My surgeon told me it is the only permant solution

    Surgery improve PCOS?

Lol! Was your 6 months 6 appointments or 7?

    Surgery improve PCOS?

My gyno is also the one who referred me to the surgery center in October. I was able to get an appointment within a month. I’m stuck in the middle of the 6 month diet now

    I’m originally from Hopatcong
  21. Has anyone had experience with the Novant Bariatric Solutions group in Charlotte?
  22. I have Anthem BCBS in North Carolina and the 6 months are required. 1/2 way there. Is it 6 visits or 7?
  23. A little nervous. I know my life is going to change. I’m just not sure how yet, it’s hard to picture or imagine
