  1. Just to be clear, I am not saying there is a problem with Whey protein. I'm just passing on information that there are two types of Whey Protein ( Whey protein Concentrate and Whey Protein Isolate) and that he recommended that I use Whey Protein isolate. If you look at the ingredient label it will say whether it is Whey protein Concentrate or isolate.

    My experience so far

I agree with what you are saying about Whey protein. My nutritionist is saying that there are two types of whey protein, whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate and in his opinion, once you had surgery, isolate was more completely absorbed.
  3. For what it's worth, my nutritionist made a distinction between protein isolate and protein concentrate. His preference was protein isolate because it is more digestible than concentrate. Most of the premier products I looked at were protein concentrate. The exception to this was their protein water. Isolate is harder to find but I have found chocolate and vanilla flavors at Sams and Walmart.

    Post-OP Mixed Emotions

I've worked in drug and alcohol treatment for the past 30 years, currently running a long term residential program for men returning to the community from the county jail. What has been amazing to me since I had my sleeve done 1/22/18 are the similarities between my emotions and thinking and those that client have expressed they struggled with early in their recovery. Acceptance is a b***h, whether it's acceptance of my addiction, acceptance of a medical condition or acceptance that my days of eating a 16 oz steak are over. There is a very old reference in AA's Big Book that goes once a pickle, never a cucumber again. I have told this to clients for 20 years but it didn't settle in for personally until yesterday when I was feeling resentful after seeing a burger king ad and realizing that I could never sit and eat the hamburger. I got angry and resentful and even told myself that it was ok to have piece of ham because I deserved it. Yeah, that entitlement lasted about 1 minute which is how long it took for me to throw up from the cramps I was having. I'm working on embracing/accepting my "pickleness" today. What I has seen over the years is that acceptance brings serenity.
  5. I just had my sleeve done Monday 1/22/18 and I share the same experience with the taste of things after surgery. For the two days I was in the hospital they gave me sugar free jello, a sugar free Popsicle and hot or cold tea for all 3 meals I took a bite of the Popsicle on the first day and thought it was disgusting. I ate nothing the entire time I was in the hospital. This seems to be easing up as the first few days go by. Bland seems to be better at this point. I've been having a tough time with cramps when I drink water with crystal light even if I take the smallest sips so today I'm just going to do water with no flavoring.
  6. I had my sleeve done this past Monday 1/22/18. pain has consistently reduced since then and I was discharged from the hospital Wednesday morning. I really only take pain eds at night at this point but have noticed that unless I take extremely small sips of water that I get a very brief cramp so it is impossible to get 64 ounces of water down in a day. I think I had the normal regrets and questions about whether I did th right thing and even started resenting things when I saw the oversized steak or hamburger commercials on TV. I even had the f...its yesterday and decided it would be a good idea to have a small piece of ham, because I wanted it. Well that entitlement didn't last long and I found that pain and throwing up was a pretty good means of letting go of those resentments. New day today, I made a protein smoothie this morning with greek yogurt, some protein powder and some frozen fruit in my Nutriblast blender. It seems to be going down pretty easily. I'm intending to go back to work this monday. I run a treatment program so I'm not digging ditches. No difference in my mind between sitting at home and sitting at a desk at work. I am also finding some very amazing similaraties between the things I am mentally struggling with and the process the clients in the program I run go through in their recovery journey.
  7. I work in drug and alcohol treatment but that being said, the person to ask is your surgeon. One thing I have seen done with pregnant women on higher doses because of the fetus, is split dosing. Split dosing might improve what is absorbed because you're taking a smaller amount. Also, have you considered converting over to Suboxone? Since it's a film, it might resolve the problem your concerned about.

    Protein????

My doctors team said to use shakes, products that are protein isolate rather than protein concentrate. Apparently isolate is easier digested. Premier protein shakes is concentrate not isolate. Premier does have a protein water though that is isolate. I found the cheapest place to by Protein2o is Walmart were you can get a 12 pack for around $17.
  9. I can't say what your insurance requires but mine didn't require a specific amount od weight to be lost. My doctors team explained that insurance wants you on a diet to see if you can stick to one and it was more important to not gain weight rather than lose a specific amount.
  10. Hi everyone. I started my pre-op diet today. All liquids and clear liquids the day before. I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday 1/22/18.
