@ZeroCool. I sure hope they figure it out and you get some relief from all this pain. This whole thing is hard enough without complications! Big hug from me.

I’m in the home stretch! RNY is 8/13 and my 3 day liquid diet begins Friday. In the meantime I’m making sure I have everything I’ll need (drinks/meds) on hand and stuff that my hubby can prepare for himself too. He is almost 3 months RNY postop and now it’s my turn ;)

God Bless you, my sisters, you are speaking to me today! These are just the things I need to hear and store in my memory banks. Like the story, oh yeah I always got a story:
Grandma sitting in her rocker reading the Bible
Little Girl: Grandma, what are you doing?
Grandma Cramming for my Final Exams, honey, cramming for my Final Exams.
Yep that's me, still cramming for my Surgical Final Exam!

Yes, grandma! I have some stretchy slip shorts I wear under my dresses that I'm going to switch to once my incisions are a little less tender.

Great tips!! My surgery was Monday. I was having issues with changing position in bed. I can’t lie on my back all night and my belly insides weren’t happy with flopping side to side. I don’t have a belly binder but I do have some long stretchy camisoles, not unlike Spanx but not quite that tight. I do sleep so much better when wearing that to bed at night .

    1. Belly wrap or abdominal binder. Ask your doctor about this first!!! This has made a big difference for me in the first few days I only wear it when I'm getting up to do my walking as it keeps my belly from jiggling and pulling on all the suture sites. I wear it as loosely as possible for light support then I slip ice packs under it for 20 minutes when I'm done lifesaver! I should note my doctor has specifically asked me not to wear this tightly and not to wear it when sitting or sleeping.
    2. Ice packs. We bought the small square gel packs I believe they also make circles. These have been fantastic for managing pain especially when I'm coming up on the end of my pain med window or just after I've done some walking. I'm noticeably more comfortable within minutes. Pick two three or four spots that are the worst and go for it!
    3. Walking and breathing. So simple! I really think the greatest source of pain has been from gas pain which is usually alleviated within a minute or two on the laps I'm doing around my living room. In addition when I've been resting or sitting for a period of time and I first stand up to take a deep breath it always hurts. But a few breaths on my breathing exercise contraption and the tightness is gone and feels much better.

I'm so pleased to say that I'm doing very well 3 days post op with no problems drinking. I even showered today! Hopefully this was helpful for you and if it was keep reading! Because I got all these tips from other folks on this site. Ijust wanted to bump them forward for those of you preop who are searching for ideas and tips. Good luck!

I just learned of this app. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. I am one week post-op from RnY. So far, so good. Minimal pain, minimal gas. Had my first “meal” after one week of solid liquids. I slowly ate 3 ounces of nonfat plain Greek yogurt. It was awesome to have something other than broth and sugar-free popsicles. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting for your surgery. I am 65 years young and anxious to be healthy. Down 12 pounds.

Congratulations! It does get easier as each day passes. Less discomfort and more energy. Has the nausea passed yet?

I have to agree with you on the pain. But overall not too bad today. I just took a shower and put on my own comfy clothes. I feel better already. They disconnected my IV pole so I don’t feel tethered to my bed, and now I can get some walking in and pass some of this horrific gas.
I hope you feel better as the day goes on.

I feel so good today because I crashed hard yesterday! Pain meds gave me a solid two hour nap and then I fell asleep easily at 8:30 and didn’t wake until 6:30. It’s amazing what a good nights rest can do.

Hello all. Update...I had VSG yesterday. And yesterday was rough. I am still Npo , nothing by mouth, so hoping to get some ice chips later today or evening. Nausea, heart burn has been the worse so far. I am still happy I did the surgery. I sleep, walk and gets meds. Good luck to everyone else. Falling a sleep writing this.

Good luck to you. Had mine yesterday (thankfully not at 5:30 am). I’m now home and sitting comfortably in my beloved recliner. You got this!

Mostly just tired and gassy. They don’t let you sleep much in the hospital. Overall, I’m doing well. It’s no picnic but it’s calming down a little each day. I’m up now sitting in the recliner for the second time since I went to bed last night. I’ll sit up a bit then go back to bed for a while.

Thank you! I just rolled out of bed and I feel sore today and I’m moving a little slow, but I can’t believe how fast my tummy went down. I looked nine months pregnant yesterday between the gas and fluids. So, as I’ve read it does feel a lil better each day.

    Well, tomorrow’s the big day!
RNY bypass first thing in the morning
Today is day three of my liquid diet. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I’m not hungry, I just want to chew something and Jello just doesn’t cut it.
I was planning on sleeping the day away so tomorrow would come and I could just get this over with, but my back just isn’t going to let that happen. So, I guess I’ll try and keep busy.
