I send balloons to heaven every year on his Angel Day, it was January 11th 10 years ago. Your parents would be so proud of you, you know a portion of them lives on in you. I believe in Heaven and I feel they are watching and smiling at how healthy and strong you have become. Keep on racing in their honor, it's a beautiful memorialization.

Geesh I sure hope not, I get this horrible thought of them standing me up and scrubbing me down with a wire brush or a curry comb. Makes me tingle to think of it, and not in a good way

You're not alone, you have all of us on Bariatric Pal. Oh, I could give you a list of all the misplaced advice each of us was given, do you want that? Nope , I didn't think so. You are doing this first and foremost for yourself. You have realized the way I'm living isn't working, I can't live like this anymore. Maybe you've tried diet after diet, they didn't work for you. You might have lost some weight but couldn't keep it off. So you've asked for some help from your doctor and by extension- us. First ,surgery is not the easy way out, it is a rough choice to make, takes a firm commitment to see it through, it can be body altering and life changing. Those of us here have seen and understand the struggle and are still going forward. I myself am 72 years old., a lot of my contemporaries would be content to sit on their haunches in a rocking chair, get fatter until they die. Not this lady, I know I'll have an uphill battle but I'm going to do it. I'm in it to win it, even if I have only a few more years, I'm going to live them thinner and healthier. As Reba McEntire says," I'm a Survivor" and survive I shall ! I ask all of you to join me on this journey, won't be quick and easy, and there will be some sacrifice but it will be so so worth it. Come on!

Stacey you are very correct. Fluffy Chix pointed something, out in one of her posts about fat cells in our bodies. Let's think of them as little zip lock bags, as the fat drains out they fill up with Water before they flatten out, they never totally go away. That's why we have to be vigilant, former fat people always run the risk of puffing up again. The body always seeks homeostasis, we have to convince it the lower weight level is where to be, I think Dr Weiner calls it a set point, I think of it as a new point on my bodily thermostat. So those zip lock baggies of Water are what causes our stalls, we just got to wait for them to drain down, keep our diet level smooth and our exercise quotient active. And tada that pesky stall is over. Got it now!

Do you want a theory or in my case a testimony? I am allergic to Hibiclens, the red liquid in the aqua bottle they give you to scrub with before surgery. Found that out before my last knee surgery, when my whole left leg looked like it was sunburned. When I have my Rny I don't know how they'll prep me, Maybe paint me with Betadine or something else. Oh Dr Miller's a smart dude, I'm sure he'll figure it all out.

Let's see if we can get rid of some of this syndrome and its effect
Have you hit a stall in your weight loss journey ? Maybe you're not as light in weight as you planned? Well you're also not as heavy as you once were. Stalls have a way of smoothing out, just takes time.
Are you still presurgery and it seems like it's taking forever to get requirements done? Well each one has its purpose in preparing you for surgery. The better you are prepared the smoother your surgery will go
You look outside and everything looks gray and dismal? Well that only works if you are in the Northern Hemisphere like me. If you are in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or even the Middle East that excuse won't work. If the weather is nasty outside walk inside, if you're tired of being housebound go to the mall to do your walking.
And hard as it might seem, think of one good thing today. You haven't lost enough weight? Well you're not as heavy as you once were. Nobody cares for you? Then step up and care
about you. Your family is getting on your nerves? Go give them a hug anyway, kids grow up so soon, the other adult in your life might need a hug too. Even pet your cat or dog and believe the love you pass out will return to you. And it will.
You've recently had your surgery, You feel meh. It will pass, the tummy will get less tender, your diet will smooth out once you get through the different levels, remember you are healing inside and out. Be greatful for the chance to get healthier, to get thinner, to get more fit. You've. taken charge of your life now. And guess who the ultimate winner is?

Jenn'l may I share something with you? Hope I'm not a Debbie Downer to interject this. My 2nd born and older son died at 31 of a undiagnosed heart condition. He and I both worked in retail, I returned after a short bereavement leave because that would have been the way he would have wanted it. A fairly short time later a woman came into my work area dragging her son by one arm. Same first name as my son, she stated in a very nasty tone of voice "******, it's a nasty name and only nasty people have that name. You are lucky you don't have a son with that name!" I looked at her with tears starting to come into my eyes and said. quietly" I once had a son with exactly that name, he is now dead and I would give every breath in my body just to. have him back again" ---so yes a cancer patient might wish for only the struggle of weight loss as they face the spectre of their own mortality. Life is too short and too precious to waste even a minute of it.

My advice: Scrub that colon clean. That's what I'm planning to do after you suggested it a while back. I'd want my bowels as tidy as possible because with an RnY they Will be monkeying with them more. And #2 (maybe TMI) in my case I have both a cystocele and a rectocele, don't want anything, caught in a pocket and fossilizing down there. So the cleaner and happier bowel for me. Swoosh!

Don't constantly eat foods in front of her you know she can't share. Smacks of rubbing it in her face. Listen to her when she vents cause she might boil over at times. Be gentle with her moods, she will like being reassured that you are proud of her, Be supportive of her in public and to your friends. I'm telling you these things because my late husband would not have done these things for me. Let your wife feel loved and treasured. Even if she doesn't say thank you,out loud , she will in her heart.

Ask any questions you want, we all want to help anyway we can. I'm pre surg myself although I've been a Bariatric Pal for several months. We have a lot of WLS veterans on here, they have or are still fighting pounds on their journeys but still have time to mentor and encourage us all. I'm 72, planning early-mid March RnY at Mount Carmel in Columbus Ohio. More frightened of not having surgery than the actual surgery. I can do this. I'm in it to win it. Won't be the walk in the park it is for the younger ones but I can still rescue a smaller size and good health from the grasp of chubbyhood. Care to join me on this long fruitful journey? The best is just ahead.

Plastic chairs that don't make sucky noises when I get up. People saying "oh at least her face is pretty". People letting me on the furniture instead of bringing a bashed up wooden kitchen one. Shopping in the regular ladies or juniors department. Finding a nice coat instead of resorting to a mans jacket. Having people know I'm a female instead of a misshapen blob. Dressing in something bright instead of the mustard, black,or puky greens I found last week at Wally World. People not recognizing me.An occasional wolf whistle instead wondering if the guy has developed a wheeze. Painting my toenails, seeing my intimate areas without a mirror. Scratching,my own middle back.Looking in a single mirror instead of a triple. Taking a selfie without looking like a group, focusing a wide angle and having some scenery show on either side. Being tall instead of merely big. Having someone like me for myself not the amount of shadow I provide. Not being in the back row of every picture or having to be the photographer instead.
    Also,i answer somebody,else I'm in Central Ohio.
