I think the preceeding advice is good, if your current surgeon is not at a Center of Excellence Hospital I would consult someone there. I am lucky all 3 in Columbus, my state capital, are. Go with the open procedure if necessary, sure it takes a longer to heal from an abdominal wound but@biddynz who's still active reminded all of us you don't have the horrid gas and after a,month or so had returned to her job. My main support is my son the TomKITTEN, he is incredibly supportive and proud of Me for making it thus far. I'm widowed, my late husband would not have been which is another reason I never had it at a younger age plus I was resigned,there was no hope and that gradually everything would break down until I died. Another cheerleader: my PCP, yeah when I approached him about it he said it would be a GOOD thing, gave me advice about where would the best program would be, I'm going to Columbus 50 miles away, every time I see him he wants an update. I tell most people if they ask but try not to bore the average man on the street. Finally told my daughter, we're not too close by her choice, did it matter to her, not especially, she is a self-centered 49 year old brat. Not my fault, her 2 grandmothers competed and spoiled her. Now she is not happy God doesn't ask her permission for the sun to come up each day. Down deep I do still love her, she was after all my first born and the only child for 7 years until her siblings came along. When I told her she just turned the subject back to herself, Well if anything bad happens to me and,mind you I don't expect it to,, she can go around and tell people it was all my fault. Sorry folks, it's rough to love someone and not like them. But as I get closer and closer to surgery time I'm not scared, I only pray my surgeon won't back out at the last minute. I'm having a RnY for multiple reasons and firmly believe it will be the tool to effect a change in my life. I love meeting all of you here on Bariatric Pal and hope to pay it forward for others. FYI folks I found out from my sleep doctor my # was 23. So yeah definite sleep apnea, might get better after surgery but since my father had it also it might be permanent. Well every surgical dude and dudette runs Bariatrics different but they may do yours when your blood work, EKG and x rays before surgery get done. My daughter's birthday and a fine way to start the year. She was whining "I'm 49 years old today" I reminded her I turned 72 last week, our birthdays are 8 days apart. How are you doing these first 3 weeks? And how much have you lost? Gosh in a few months maybe somebody will be asking me that, it do boggle the mind to contemplate. Don't know what a power glide is either Fluffy but don't it sound groovy? My veins are bigger than yours(what a thing to boast about) but they roll, one time they used an airplane needle on me. Do you know what they are,? if you're curious I can tell you. Clue: they use them to start ivs in scalp veins on babies. Got a flat plate that lays against the skin, helps keep them from popping out. A little more invasive inside but we still end up with the 5 slits in our tummies just like you sleeved. They pull most of your stomach out and discard it, we keep ours so in theory we could be rejoined and put back to original but I've never heard of a single soul who had it done. Wow Cowgirl Jane that's a whole lot at once, wonder you didn't want to quit the Rodeo of Life about them. Makes my right paramedian look piddling and I thought it was bad. Told my surgeon I wouldn't mind if he had to do it open instead of laprascopically. He said " do you know how hard it is to recover from an abdominal wound?" I too have short red hair, although it's somewhere between strawberry blonde and ginger, and its mostly natural, no dark roots. Have you heard the one about red-haired drivers? We are similar to blondes except we convince you it's Your fault the day-um accident happened. We are supposed to be becoming extinct, our ancestors came from the Neander Forest of Germany (or so they say). Well theres a whole bunch of us here in Ohio,, maybe not as much as Minnesota where they are Scandinavian but a lot of English, Scotch Irish and my area of Ohio- Dutch and German. Whole family on Mamma's side Blonde, Red with green or brown eyes, although I'm hazel green. Daddy's side Lancastershire in England although there's some Native American nobody wants to admit, high cheekbones and tan out super easy in the summer. Most of us Americans are " mutts" if you get down to it, but I prefer to call it hybrid strength.Glad you made it to the other side of chemo otherwise I'd never met you. I'm sitting here thinking Who do I wish knew-Who would be proud of Me? I think my paternal grandmother, she was a very emotionally strong woman and I feel was an inspiration to be all I could be. She had nicknames for all her grandbabies, I was Monkey, I can feel her putting her arms around around me and saying " Monkey I know you can do this, you're my grandbaby and I'm very proud of you doing this change" then she would kiss my cheek and although I was number 12 of 18 I'd feel I was her favorite. Please don't lynch me folks but my surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet prior to surgery, just balaced and restrained in calories. Afterwards I think he's fairly traditional in his diet advice. Maybe in March I'll be cussing him but not now. Oh and I lost 5 lbs since the first of the year. Still fat but I'll grasp at even this small a straw! Remember your fat is releasing hormones and other crap as you lose your weight. Your body was happy the way you were prior to surgery and now its*******, You expect ME to work better? And you're probably stiff and achy, I remember back in the bad old days when I came home from open gallbladder surgery with a healing abdominal wound, instead of a right subcostal which was just under the ribs I had a right paramedian,, running from 2 inchs above to 4 inches below my navel. Hubby was working 12 hour shifts 40 miles away, I had a 10 year daughter, a preschooler and a toddler for help. Think I didn't regret having surgery right then? And every time I'd try to take a nap somebody wanted fed. Drug myself to the kitchen with my pillow pal and did the best i could. But 2nd guessing, oh yeah. It will be worth it, you're seeing all the knots and loose threads in your tapestry of life, once you feel better and flip,the fabric you'll see it for the good thing it is.!!. I'm gonna have a RyN in about 6 weeks, expect to face the same or similar problems. So in March remind me of what I said today cause I'm sure I'll need a reminder. I was thinking this morning about David Cassidy and Davy Jones of the Monkees. Tomkitten likes Wake up Sleepy Jean, I've been known to bounce around to Last Train to Clarksville, they were basically a put-together band for their TV show but were still pretty good. A lot of their music was written by Boyce and Hart but towards the end of their run they wrote some themselves. One of Elvis's I liked was Cold Kentucky Rain, Eddie Rabbit wrote it. Just full of trivia, ain't I? General consensus is I've been full of something for years and I only get spunkier as time goes by. Fool me once, shame on you- Fool me twice , shame on me! I actually was a Ricky Nelson fan, one of his last was Garden Party, one of my favorite lines- it's alright now, I've learned my lesson well, if you can't please everyone then you'd better please yourself. So so true, so Puddycat is gonna become smooth &sleek, you're gonna fly like an eagle and our lives will be so so much. better. Did I tell you I also have lymphedema? Especially my left leg, never been quite right since knee replacement the 7th of last February. Take it easy, stay breezy and remember you've always a fan here in Ohio. Fluffy --'I just saw in my local newspaper that Tom Perry's autopsy results were released by the family. He died of a less-than-intentional overdose. He had been touring and performing with Hip and thigh bone problems, the thigh completed fracturing, apparently it had been cracked before, the pain patch and oral meds were too much for his system to handle and he just died.
