wanderlust17 got a reaction from logicwand in January 2018 Sleevers HERE
Sleeved the 15th, down 20lb and now stalled for almost 2 wks! UGH! I had the gurgle issue too, not cute. Did some research and got back on my reflux medicine, even though I didn’t have “heartburn”. Completely eliminated the gurgling sounds and hiccups! I still get hiccups here and there but not like I was when I got off the reflux meds. More so now, if I drink go quickly. Go us!!!

I've walked since surgery and plan to do a step workout class for the first time since surgery( pretty nervous). I started out with following the diet stages by the book but this past week I've honesty cheated quite a few times. I find myself falling into old habits and I have to do a self reminder of why I made such a drastic decision for myself as surgery to only sabotage myself. I will do better for myself. Has anyone else had the same struggles?

If Optifast is the only choice then your clinic/surgeon is somehow profitting from this exclusionary choice. Are you required to buy directly from the clinic itself, if so there is your red flag? (Kickbacks from sales reps) I have read where this happens a lot in Canada.

Yes...it was bad. I had 3 stents put in, not at one time. I had Fluid on my lungs so that needed to be drained. 2 drainage tubes and a feeding tube put in. 7 surgeries in all. My doctor only had 3 in his whole time he's done this surgery. I was one of three. But God has healed me. I'm so greatful to him. I still have to have feedings at night, but soon I hope that will be gone as well.

I had surgery back in September... day after I got back, I had excruciating pain radiating up my left shoulder and I could barely breathe. Messaged my surgeon and asked if I should be feeling like this (duh!) and he said no. Ended up in the ER having my stomach looked at, washed out, drain put in and then a stent.
I was in hospital for 2 months and had several operations for stent placements, that ultimately didn't work. Had to go and have one put in that required being stitched in to place. That one ended up coming loose and I still had the leak. Had it stitched again and that did the trick. Stent is out now, leak has healed (I hope it stays that way!).
Anyway - I'm out of hospital now. Trying to get my life back in order. Still dealing with some pain, and some mental trauma. My mother had to fly out from England to take care of me whilst in hospital and to take care of my child who has autism. Nightmare. We have massive bills... airline, hospital, etc.
My surgeon was amazing though and I love him. He stood by me the whole way.
Anyway, I just wanted to put myself on this board so that I can help other people if they go through the same thing, or if any of you have questions. One of the scariest things about the leak is the unknown.

I had my surgery on the 30th. All went well. My doctor also fixed a hernia that I had. It didn't show up on my pre op x rays. I had the usual gas pains that everyone gets but it's subsiding pretty much now. I was 288 at surgery I'm now 272. I feel great. I'm not hungry and I'm getting liquids down slowly.

I hope the January sleepers have fared better than I have. Sleeved on 1/17. Tested next day for leak and was told there none. Discharged 1/19. After a few days at home low grade fever kicked in. I went to my scheduled follow up appointment and the doctor sent me over to the hospital to be re-admitted. Tested again and there was a leak. Interventional radiologist inserted a drain near the leak. Picc line also inserted. 8 days of IV antibiotics, no food or Water. I am home now and each night for the next 6-8 weeks, I am administering TPN via IV for 12 hours. It has been a nightmare and I so regret my decision to have the surgery. The risks are real!

Hi! My name is Maggie. I had my sleeve surgery on 1/2/18. When I had my first appointment with my doctor I weighed 209. Then, in the months leading up to an actual surgery date, I blew it because I thought I would lose too much before I got a surgery date and then would no longer qualify for the surgery. When I was finally given a surgery date on December 14, 2017, I weighed in at 229. My nutritionist told me I had to do a THREE WEEK liquid diet! Over the holidays no less! Well, in that three weeks, I was able to drop back down to 209 on my surgery date! Yay me! I woke up in the recovery room thinking “what the f—- did I just do?” I was in a lot of pain. I only spent overnight in the hospital and despite the pain, I walked as soon as they took me up to my hospital room. The nurses were amazed that I was up and walking so soon. I have had a few days where I throw up, but I am almost certain it’s because I need to slow down when eating - I tend to eat way too fast. By January 21 I was down to 195.2, then I hit the dreaded stall. I have remained at 195.2 since then. I walk about 1 3/4 miles three days a week. I have autoimmune issues including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Today, I kicked it up a notch and walked 2 1/2 miles. My left hip is screaming tonight. I think I will skip the walk tomorrow and resume on Wednesday. Stay strong peeps!!!!! We’ve got this!

Hi there! I had surgery on 1/15. Feeling pretty good after having had the flu for several days. I was doing great in my Water before then....struggling now. Plain water is so gross. I'm HATING artificial sweeteners. So just plugging along. The heartburn has started with adding more foods. Not fun. Down 22lb from surgery day.

Yep. Head hunger is still my biggest battle that I fight. I really don't crave the bad things of old, but that habits of feeling like I need to eat (like as soon as I get home from work, late evening, etc) are still there.
I was a diet soda freak before surgery. Haven't had it since so that was a big acomplishment for me. Don't really miss Pasta and breads. I'll have a tiny bit every once in a blue moon but I'm actually happier without it in my diet. I eat so much chicken I fully expect to sprout feathers one of these days.

    welcome newbie
drinking liquids/water won't make you full.
once you gradually eat towards mush, soft
and especially the goal of solid foods, you
will feel restriction. your new little tummy
will feel happier soon. don't worry too
much - your hair will turn gray
    kathy
    good luck

Please don't worry! My EGD was on 8/13/14 and I also had no symptoms and didn't expect the EGD to be any more than another line on a checklist. They found an ulcer, gastritis and many, many polyps. I was undecided between RNY bypass or the gastric sleeve. My surgeon told me after the EGD RNY was no longer an option for me due to the polyps and I was going to have to have the sleeve done instead. He said the sleeve would actually resolve the polyp issue because it would remove all of them. I suggest double checking with your surgeons office just to make sure his medical opinion is the same. Good luck and let me know what happens. Hang in there and keep working your way through the pre-surgical process. You will be joining the Loser's Bench before you know it!

Has anyone ever watched Dr. Duc Vuong’s YouTube videos? He’s a well known Bariatrics surgeon who has written several books on the topic. I just watched one about why you shouldn’t work out after WLS. I’ve been burning about 200 to 300 calories at the gym 5 days a week for about 4 weeks and hit a huge stall for two weeks, and I’ve only lost 1 pound since getting out of the stall. I’m wondering if he’s absolutely right. Everyone encourages us to workout, but if I’m only consuming 400-500 calories a day, which my surgeon says is fine, it sounds like this doctor may be right, especially considering my progress. Has anyone watched it? Opinions? The link is below. Looking for some other comments before trying out his advice and giving the gym up for two weeks as a test run.
