Looking for a May 10th surgery buddy

That’s awesome! I’ve been able to get in 33.8 oz water and 24 oz of broth in today. No nausea or vomiting and the severe pain quit around 9 this morning. Just the intestinal gas pain and suture tenderness. Are you still feeling good? Oh my gosh yes about the pain! Now it’s only some intestinal gas and tenderness at the 4 sutures so extra strength Tylenol is doing the job well. I walked ALL DAMN NIGHT last night. I know that hospital and patient room buildings like the back of my hand now! [emoji23]Are you feeling better now? Lots of questions and anxiety

Ok. So I had the sleeve done yesterday here in NC, and your process sounds a lot like mine. After my year of NUT visits, I had to have another preconsult with my surgeon, do a pre-op meeting and all new lab tests. Typically you cannot set up your surgery until your prior authorization for surgery has gone thru. Since my surgeon deals with the same couple insurance policies, they knew exactly how long it would take to get my approval in. The day of my last pre-surgery appt with the surgeon, the penciled me in for my surgery date 17 days later. Exactly 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery, my approval came in and I was immediately put on the Optifast diet. After that, I did all the meetings, tests, pre-op hospital paperwork etc. 13 days later I was in the OR, the next day (today) I was able to pass all discharge instructions and tests, and now I’m back at home, no pain meds or anything needed. I guess to shorten it down, no you can’t be officially scheduled until you’re approved, but you surgeon may be able to pencil in a date for you and if all goes well and on time, you’ll have no problem keeping that date. Hope this helps with some of your questions. I can’t help with the switch or RNY info since the best and safest option for me was the sleeve. If you want more information regarding those two options, you should jump on the boards for the RNY and then the switch one as well and ask those people questions. Most everyone here is very kind and helpful and will answer any questions you may have. Good luck! Looking for a May 10th surgery buddy

Like 3 full cups (8oz) or the little medical cups? If you’ve gotten 24 oz of fluid in so far you’re my friggin hero! I FINALLY managed to walk off all the c02 gas around my stomach, so no more shoulder pains and stuff, but boy did I have A LOT of actual gas in my new tiny tummy! So I was laying in bed here for good hour massaging around the sutures to push the gas up and out. Went pee and felt better so I decided to lay on my tummy in bed. After a couple burps and farts, [emoji23] I’m feeling pretty good. Just had another oz of water. The only thing really hurting now is my lower back, and that from a previous injury that I typically take muscle relaxers for. I think once I get home I’m hopefully 12 hours, and I’m able to take one of those I’ll be fine. Here’s hoping anyway since we don’t get pain meds sent with us when we leave! All that’s a wee bit sore in the front is the largest of the 4 sutures where they did most of the work and pulled the old tummy out of. I hope everyone else is getting better as the night progresses! Please let me know how you’re all doing because lord knows I’ll be on here talking about EVERYTHING since I can’t seem to sleep. I got sleeved today!

Update: it seems likely I’ve walked all the co2 from around my stomach out. At this point it’s gas INSIDE the stomach that the problem. I laid on my side in bed for about an hour, trying to massage all the gas in there up and out. Don’t get me wrong, it WAS painful. And I was using the spirometer like crazy trying to expand my lungs back out to fill up that space. So I just got up to pee (AGAIN) and had the bright idea to just lay tummy down on the bed when I got back. Boom! Burps and a couple farts (sorry [emoji23] ) and now i fell pretty darn good! I’m still laying tummy down while I write this out and I’m still a tad uncomfortable (kind of like when you drink a soda too fast and get that full pain in your upper chest) but SO MUCH BETTER. Hopefully it continues to be a good thing for the next 12 hours. The only thing not my tummy hurting is my lower back and that’s because of an old injury I reaggrivated a few months ago and normally take muscle relaxers for. Once I’m able to get home and start those again I think everything will be a ok. Still sipp sipp sipping that water! Keep you all posted! I got sleeved today!

Yes they did! And that’s what is killing me. The pressure. They say the don’t send you home with pain meds, but I may see if I can get some from my dr. when I talk to him tomorrow. The pain of the gas is unreal! I’ve gotten about 3 hours sleep all told. After the roxicodone things were going well and then they came and woke me up an hour later. For Tylenol! Really? So now I’m up and hurting and walking again. Sigh. I’m ready to be home with a good lunesta and trazadone and hopefully a couple of continuous hours of sleep. Looking for a May 10th surgery buddy

I’m ok. VERY painful gas here, but no nausea. I’m working to keep liquids down, no vomiting, but it feels like everything gets caught in my throat and the gas pain in my chest increases. I have not had 4 instead of the usual 5 incisions in my tummy which is nice but also means he put a bunch more gas in there to be able to see. Walking the halls, taking a bite of jello or sip of water and walking again. I am SOOOO tired, but I can’t lay down without turning into a giant painful ball of gas[emoji37] So it more walking for me! TMI - liquid diet side affects?

I did the Optifast for 2 weeks and got sleeved this morning. All 14 days I was a mess in the bathroom. Every day. All day. It was pretty awful, but I got through it Good luck! 11. Hi all! I’ve been stalking this app for a while now, but didn’t post much until yesterday since I finally was approved. I just want a place to document my journey and I thought this might be the right place. Today is my second of 13 days of my Optifast diet. Yesterday was really rough. I was head hungry and physically hungry. It switched around all day long. It wasn’t helpful that I manage an escape room and all the guys were bringing in fast food to eat all day in the back room where most of my work is done. I’m currently on Metformin, Glipizide and Victoza for diabetes. I felt really shaky quite a few times during the day. I was able to test my BG one time before my monitor quit working. It was low (72) so I popped half a glucose tablet and felt better. I also had an on and off headache during day one. Despite all that I made it through with no cheats! I thought for sure I’d wake up hungry, but I didn’t! That was a pleasant surprise. Here goes day 2 of Optifast! Only 11 days to go after today. I just keep telling myself “I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.” HW: 311 CW: 262 SW: We’ll see on May 10!
  12. My surgery is at noon tomorrow (although I’ve been told that my surgeon likes to move things up when possible which I experienced with my EGD) and I am SO excited! I’ve got to go finish some shopping today, finish packing my overnight bag and then do the Hibicleans showers. Sleep tonight and then it’s time for my VSG! The only part I’m dreading is the pain and nausea after surgery. Perhaps I’ll get more nervous as the day rolls on but for now I could just jump up and down with happiness! The surgery journey begins

Here we go! Tomorrow is the big day! I’ve got my bag prepped, I had my first hibicleanse shower and I’ve had my last shake and jello. No nerves yet, but super excited! I don’t know if anyone is actually reading this yet since it’s the boring pre-op part, but tomorrow morning will be my surgery day picture posting. I’ve got my highest weight photo ready to go as well. I just haven’t wanted to look at it because I’m ashamed. But tomorrow my new life begins and I will have to be brave in so many ways. If I can bring myself to post those pictures on this site where anyone can see them, I’ll be in a good place. I hope to put in some thoughts about the surgery tomorrow after it’s all said and done. Hopefully I won’t be too drugged out, nauseous or in pain. If you’re reading this now, or if you read it in the future, just realize that the pre-op diet is hell, but absolutely worth every headache, every craving and every hangry moment. It was nice to get well wishes from all the people I’ve told. Which honestly were a lot [emoji23] Even my wonderful boss and his lovely fiancé will be coming to visit me tomorrow. I’m glad I had so many people I could tell about this and that support me fully. Well it’s definitely time to TRY to sleep. TRY being the big word in that sentence! If you do read this, wish me luck even if it’s only quietly in the back of your mind. And to future me: YOU DID IT AMANDA!!! HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! 23. Well I mean jeeze! I’ve been doing this for SOOOO long. Then I seem to get a scolding from someone who was conflicted as of 4/21. I’ve worked SO HARD for this (as have the rest of you!) I don’t need to be talked down to by someone who is basically just starting. In fact, no one here needs to be scolded by ANYONE! That’s not the purpose of this place. We come here for advice, friendship and safety. I’ve told everyone important to me about my WLS, but most people don’t and this may be the only place they can come and feel safe and welcomed. I’m not going to tolerate bs like what’s posted above. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! First goal weight: 191 lbs Second goal weight: 159 lbs Goal weight: 142 lbs 5’6” 34 yo female in NC
  24. Wow. Ok. So yo-yo girl already addressed a lot of this but on behalf of myself and maybe others, I’m a little confused and a wee bit offended. I’d like to point out that you are in the PRE-OP section of this app/website. All of us who are talking about these books have most likely read them if we’re close to surgery and are simply suggesting them to others who are perhaps further away. Yes. I am lucky I got my binder. I realize most doctors don’t do this. But any respectable doctor is going to give you A LOT of information. I haven’t seen one person on here who hasn’t had MANY visits with a NUT, a psychologist, and EGD and other lab tests and such. Perhaps someone else’s team gives them enough information to the point they believe only a few papers are needed. Which is fine. The fact that our doctors do things a little bit differently is just that. Different from other practices. The emotional blows of pre and post-op? We’ve ALL been through psychological screening. I personally see a psychiatrist on a regular basis anyway for other issues. Besides that, we have our MANY threads here where we CONSTANTLY get to post and speak with people in all stages of this life change. All questions are answered by many people. The varying responses give each of us a best, worst and plain old regular answer to any situation. Obviously you haven’t had your procedure done yet. I hope that you will find this app as useful as the rest of us had. With that said, you may not make many friends here with such a condescending attitude. We are here to HELP each other, not SHAME each other. I’m super glad that you researched the hell out of this on your own and it made you feel more comfortable. But realize no one on here woke up last week and decided to do a WLS procedure out of the blue. I don’t know how far out your surgery date is, but I’ve been waiting and jumping through hoops for EIGHTEEN MONTHS. Let me break that down for you: Initial consultation in November 2016. 12 months of monthly NUT counseling. 4 psychiatrist visits with a weight loss expert along with my normal psychiatrist. 5 sets of lab work. An EGD. A PT visit. A sleep study. 3 pre-op support group meetings. A meeting with my NUT on how to properly shop for food after WLS. Many visits with my PCP. X-rays. An EKG. A pre-op workshop. 2 weeks on the Optifast diet. So I think I’m pretty good knowledge wise. Did I read Weight Loss for Dummies too? Yep. Have I watched many a YouTube channel documenting WLS? You betcha. But do I feel the need to read “every medical journal” about this? No. Not at all. And let me throw out that I’ve worked as a CPhT, MA, CNA and medical biller. And what you tossed out as having done is complete overkill even to me. If it makes YOU feel more secure, by all means go for it. But don’t push what you felt you needed to do to feel secure onto others as if they MUST need the same things. Remember what thread you’re posting on, have a better attitude towards others on here and don’t be “horrified” when other people’s actions don’t meet your specific notions. You do you, and we’ll do us. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! First goal weight: 191 lbs Second goal weight: 159 lbs Goal weight: 142 lbs 5’6” 34 yo female in NC
