Well done on your loss so far. You will find plenty of support here, join in posts and before you know it you will have the accountability buddies you are after.

    Sleeve to bypass

Sorry I can't help...but how far are you out from surgery? Did you have any anti-nausea meds? Have you spoken to your surgeon or dietician?

    10/29 RNY pre op jitters

I didn't have an overnight stay so can't help you there, but there are plenty of posts about what to take to hospital, there is a search link in the top left hand corner. Good luck for your surgery it will be here before you know it!

    Too much thirsty

How much water are you actually drinking? What does your surgeon have to say about the amount of water you are drinking?
  8. I asked the question because I am mindful when I look at research results of who the investigators are, that way I can be aware of any possible bias. I think I am going to back out or stay out of the OP's threads from now on, responding only keeps pushing the scare tactic posts back to the top of the recent activity lists. Can't say I won't not respond all the time but I will do my best not to.
  9. So Valter Longo is a vegan?
  10. I have put my goal weight at 65kilos for the moment, not within the healthy BMI but it is a weight that I previously lost weight to and I was happy with. My doctor doesn't really want to set weight goals he wants to work with body composition. I had a DEXA scan the day before my procedure and my body fat was 42%. Ideally it should be between 25% to 31%. I have my first procedure follow up on Wednesday I will discuss goals with him then.
  11. It was extreme and I doubt many could stick it out like he did. It's great that he lost weight and regained health, be good to see his outcomes a year or two down the track. Also good would be see to his body composition...body fat vs lean body mass. He ate between three to four kilos of potatoes a day, three kilos of potatoes (with skin) has approx 70gms protein, 48gms fibre and 387gms of carb. No one is saying there is anything wrong with carbs it is the way that the argument or topic is being presented. There are many bariatric post op diets - some focus on carbs, some focus on protein, some vegetarian, some vegan.
  12. Most of everything you posted after this would infer you are telling people they are doing it wrong and that there is only one right way...

Not sure about the first link. I would have previously assumed before now that most people would know that what works for them may not necessarily works for others. For every single bit of research there is an opposing research that proves the opposite of the other. It's hard to sift through and find truly independent research..at the end of the day each one of us should go with what works for us. There will be trial and error, but determination should see us reach the best outcome for ourselves.

    Kevin Smith / Silent Bob

I have not heard of him before now. How he lost his weight is his own business, if he has WLS I get that he chooses not to discuss it, I had an ESG last week and so far only one friend knows about it.
  15. Hop_Scotch

You don't need WLS just go on a diet!

One person knows about my procedure and she is the one who came with me while I travelled interstate. If my doctor had not insisted on me having someone with me 48hrs post procedure she probably wouldn't have known. I have rarely discussed my weight issues with anyone and I guess I see this as the same, no one needs to know my personal business.

    Hoping for ESG

I had my ESG on Tuesday, all went well, I have had some stomach cramping but all good now. I am on my last day of clear fluids, tomorrow I start three weeks of free liquids. I did get a bit hydrated and had an infusion, felt so much better, but rather bruised. My veins are difficult at the best of times, took four attempts to find a good vein, three of them via ultrasound...all good in the end though.

I'm from Tasmania, in Sydney now for a few days for my ESG tomorrow.

    Hoping for ESG

Nearly there now, tomorrow (Sunday) I fly to Sydney, have an appointment with the doctor plus a dexa scan on Mondy afternoon. My hospital admission is Tuesday morning at 6.15am, I am hoping i am first off! My doctor focuses on body composition as well as the scale weight hence the dexa scan. Reduce body fat and increase lean body mass. Feeling slightly nervous but being busy today will take the edge off that. Work for a few hours, visit my mother at her nursing home, last minute run to chemist and shop make sure I have the right supplies for when I return home first for the clear liquid diet and then free liquid diet. Oh and packing.

    Protein

If you are struggling to eat 60 gms of protein but are eating 600 to 700 calories per day, the non-protein calories must be coming from carbs, fats or alcohol calories. 1gm of protein = 4 calories as does 1gm of carb, 1gm fat = 9 calories, 1gm alcohol = 7 calories. Say you have 50gms of protein, that would be 200cals...the other 400 to 500 are coming from something else. That or you are not consuming as many calories as you think.

    Protein

You may need to rejig what you are eating if you need more protein but don't want to eat more calories. What carbs / fats are you eating? What can be swapped out for protein foods?

    Liquid diet started today

Hope you stayed strong! I am on my pre-op diet too, it does get easier believe it or not.
  23. Unfortunately the ESG subforum isn't all that active here: https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1294-endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-forum/, I am a member of three ESG facebood groups one is USA based, it is reasonably active, let me know if you would like a link to it. What is your post op diet? Are you still on free liquids, pureed foods or soft foods? What foods and beverages are you consuming and in what quantities?
  24. Hop_Scotch

    Little more weights loss

How many calories are you currently eating? Protein, carbs? Getting plenty of fluids? Are you exercising?

    Hoping for ESG

I am now in pre-op mode with three meal replacement shakes a day plus three cups of non starchy veges. The week prior to my pre-op diet I had started a less severe pre-op...two shakes plus a meal plus three cups of non starchy veges. Yesterday was a bit of fail for the pre-op diet, but I did learn something. I haven't that full/bloated feeling from all the food I would eat since I have been on the pre-op diet, when I overate yesterday I realised I didn't actually like that full/bloated feeling. I think previously it felt like a comfort thing, yesterday it just felt bloated and uncomfortable. I shall draw on that feeling when I am tempted or strugging over the next 10 or so days.
