  1. No doubt some people have pushed the boundaries, starting food stages early than they should. Why not chat to your surgeon or dietician see if you can get the go ahead to move to the next stage? How would you feel if you jumped ahead too quickly for you, and compromised the healing of your stomach and bypass? Do you really want to be sneaking in food at this stage? If you do it now, what about the next time and next time you feel you want to? Somewhere down the track there will be time to tweak your food intake to suit you, but let that be when you have healed and have lost some weight. I can only reinforce please chat to your medical team.

    Welcome. How is your husband going so far? If he is losing weight already he is on the right track. Make sure he is consuming some good fats along with the higher protein/low carb diet. As for snacks this may be useful https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/healthy-high-protein-snacks#section17 As for meals, can't go wrong with lean protein (red meat, chicken, turkey, fish) and low carb vegies, eggs (scrambled, boiled or poached), crustless quiches, cottage cheese, small amount of nuts, small amount of good fats, greek yoghurts with higher protein or branded high protein yoghurts, high protein shakes, small amount of low carb fruits are useful too. You can makes soups, stews, casseroles, etc.

    You are in the right place for anxious right here on these forums. Don't be afraid to ask questions or you can use the search link in the top left hand corner, its pretty good in returning results which you can sort by newest date. There is generally a thread for those undergoing surgery in the same month, keep an eye for that, its pretty useful and supportive to be engaging with those going through everything together.

    Are you still in the pre -op stage or already have had surgery? If you have already had surgery it would be helpful if you updated our profile to show you are post op and the date, it helps people tailor their replies to assist better.

    Where does the time go? Just re-read my last post above, seems I need to pull my finger out, haven't been exercising as much as I should. Weight loss is going well, restriction is holding up as well as it should it. In the past week or so I have been experiencing some minor acid reflux, I will have to start keeping notes see if I can identify which food may be triggering it. Been some hair loss beyond the usual in the past few weeks, fortunately with curly hair it isn't so noticable. I will keep an eye on that and make sure I am taking vitamins and eating sufficient protein. I will also check out some other supplements see if they may be beneficial. I have been enjoying the exercise I have been doing, not getting so breathless or red in the face. It's great to be able able to up stairs without gasping, clothes are fitting so much better.

    What specifically concerns you? The surgery? Fear of failure? The pre op and post op diets? Excess skin? Complications?
  10. Doesn't sound appetising at all, don't do it really don't do it. Go for a walk around the block, go have a soak in the bath, go do something other than being near a hamburger.

    This is not okay, talk about a break in trust. How can we trust someone again when they tell other people what is private to us? I would be most distressed if the one person who knows about my procedure had told other people, I explained my need for privacy and I hope they respect that.
  12. Also give protein shakes a go, a good quality protein could give you anywhere an extra 15 to 30gms of protein a day dpending on the shake itself and if you add milk/yoghurt to it. Have you spoken to your surgeon about your stomach hurting when you eat? Are you eating small mouthfuls, taking your time between mouthfuls, only eating the volume of food specified? Stomach hurting could be a few things: too much acid, eating too big mouthfuls, eating too quickly, eating too much in short period of time, plus other other things...could be a good time to touch base with your doctor. You don't want to lose too much muscle, it will compromise your health and may make weight loss more difficult in the future. Also start drinking more water, your body needs it. Even if its only a small increase every day, until you re getting at least 2 litres a day.
  13. It is not good to eat so low, even with weight loss surgery your body needs a minimum amount of protein to help maintain lean body mass, you don't want to lose muscle. Are you still pre-op or now post op? It may be useful for you to update your profile so when people respond to your posts that they have sufficient information to respond to. If you are post-op, how long since your surgery and what food stage of your surgeon's/dietician's post op diet are you at? What about water or other no calorie fluids, how much are you drinking per day?

    Does seem high in comparison with others at this point...generally slower the first few weeks due to inflammation, IV fluids, water weight loss in pre op diet prior to surgery....but we don't know your circumstances, so it may be normal for you. Do make sure you are getting at least 60grams of protein a day (or whatever quantity in your guidelines provided by your dietician), make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

    When are you allowed soft foods? Best check in with your surgeon or dietician as to timing and quantities perhaps? Avocado while reasonally healthy is fairly high in fat and they probably have some restrictions as to how much can be consumed in a meal or per day. Hummus the same, can be high fat depending on the brand, but if making your own doesn't have to be high fat.

    Weight loss post-op vs pre-op

    I am no expert, but possibly pre-op you may have had a lot of excess fluid which when you well low cal/carb you lost along with some fat. Then first few weeks post op you have a lot of inflammation/fluid retention form the IV fluids plus the dreaded 3rd/4th week stall as the post op diet switches up a gear (swapping from liquid/puree/soft etc) which typically hinders scale weight loss. While you may not be losing a lot via the scale, it is likely you are losing lots of inches.

    Stalls happen to most people particularly when progressing through the post op food stages. Keep eating to your post op diet instructions and the weight loss will kick back in again. Well done on your weight loss so far!

Bariatric patients have a shortened bowel, which can cause gas to be more odorous and expelled more forcefully. Foods high in carbohydrates cause gas; those high in fat and protein cause very little. The foods that are known to cause more gas are beans, vegetables, some fruits, soft drinks, whole grains, wheat, bran, cow's milk and cow's milk products, foods containing sorbitol and dietetic products. To help prevent flatulence: Eat your meals more slowly, chewing food thoroughly. Lactose intolerance is generally the culprit of gas. Discontinue eating all cow's milk products. Yogurt is OK. Avoid chewing gum and hard candy. Avoid drinking with a straw. Eliminate carbonated beverages. Remedies for flatulence include Lactobacillus acidophilus (a probiotic or "good bacteria" that aids digestion), natural chlorophyll and simethicone.

    Generally depends on the after support program, plus how much extra above the medicare scheduled fee the surgeon charges. Have you confirmed that your particularly insurance covers WLS, been a lot of changes as to what is being covered in the various levels of cover lately.

    Something I read really irritated me...

    Some celebrities are known to lose weight in some extreme ways (fasting for weels/months on end), weird celebrity diets etc. When they say the healthy and old fashioned way, I wonder if they mean I 'calorie counted or just dieted by creating a calorie deficit' as opposed to some weird celebrity diet not as opposed to WLS????
