    Possibly...have you cut out caffeine? It's also possible you need some electrolytes (you should be able to find some without any added sugar or no/low sugar).

    Can't lose weight

    Over what period of time did you gain the 20lb? How long have you been trying to lose the gain and what have you tried? How many calories are you currently eating? Are you weighing and measuring everything you eat? Tracking everything you eat? What exercise are you doing? How much fluids (and what fluids) are you consuming? This will help people in their responses to you.
  3. Please contact your surgeon, this is not normal. If you haven't been prescribed acid reducing medication you need to be, and if you have, maybe it needs to be stronger. Either way please contact your surgeon ASAP so it can be investigated. It may help if you sleep on an incline and make sure you don't consume anything a few hours before you go to bed.

    Great you are doing your research. Typically average excess weight loss with ESG is lower than the surgical options as the volume of the stomach remaining is a bit greater than the surgical options, so I think you should be fine for not getting too skinny too fast. Some people lose more than the average of course, and vice versa.

    @flgirl23 My ESG was converted to a sleeve in March 2020. My ESG failed most of the sutures had come out or loosened. If you go a head with the ESG make sure you use someone who had done many ESGs, I am taking in the 100s, you want them to be as experienced as possible, you will also want to know there success rates for 1 year and 2 years out, ask how revisions for tightening of sutures and revisions to surgical options..

    No losing weight

    We may be able to tailor a response to you if you could provide more info. What surgery did you have? How far post op are you? How long since surgery? How much weight have you lost since surgery? What is your current weight? Following your post op guidelines? What do you typically eat in a day? Drinking plenty of fluids? What exercise are you doing? Generally stalls are pretty common and as long as you are following your post op guidelines the scales should catch up eventually.

    The evening of the surgery I did a lap or two around the ward, then after that I did a lot of walking, I didn't sleep well in the hospital at all. If I was awake I did a few laps every hour. When I got home (I had to isolate for two weeks due to covid) so I did lots of laps around the house and garden often.
  9. I am wondering if I have misunderstood? Did you have surgery on Monday or surgery is on Monday coming? In that case you haven't been following your pre-op plan? The pre-op plan is to help shrink the liver for surgery. Some pre-op plans do not include a liver shrinking phase. If you didn't do shakes what have you been doing pre-op? Perhaps you need to check in with your surgeon or dietician.
  10. Sometimes there is a few days of clear fluids, What is your post op food guidelines for the first couple of weeks post op? If you were meant be consuming shakes sooner than later what are you consuming instead? Anything? Are you getting any nutrition?

    What have you tried so far? My suggestion would be calorie counting, there are lots of apps which will calculate your daily calorie allowance for weight loss, you could track for two or three months see how you go. If you don't fancy calorie counting maybe check in with a dietician. Other than that there is weight loss revision surgery once you've given some of the options a go, if you are inclined towards a revision.
  12. Sounds like he is more concerned about his surgery stats than he is your health. I don't know if you have or will have a lot of excess skin, but if you do, his goal weight probably doesn't factor in the weight of that excess skin, and you'd be even leaner.

    At a starting weight of 216lb your weight loss is going to be lower and slower than someone whose starting weight was much higher. What is your height? Are you exercising? What exercise are you doing? How many calories are you consuming a day now? How much protein do you eat daily? Carbs? Do you drink alcohol? Do you do a lot of incidental activity? Getting plenty of fluids? All this (and others) factor into your weight loss patterns, we are all different and lose weight differently. If you are able answer these though, I am sure you will get some very helpful suggestions regarding weight loss. Has your dietician or surgeon made any suggestions for you?

    Chicken though lower in cholestrol, like some other animal produces does contain cholestrol, I would think the skin would increase the cholestrol level due to the fat content and depending how they are prepared and cooked, could contain even more cholestrol. If you have high cholesterol due to your diet then probably it would be something to be wary of (though your doctor would confirm that for you). If your cholesterol is high due to genetics it would be something to chat to your doctor about. I guess either way it would be to your benefit to confirm with your doctor.

  16. Hello and welcome. The thread you have found is quite old, more than 10 years old, it is unlikely that any of those who posted in the thread are still around. Is lap band still popular in Italy? It's popularity has substantially reduced in some countries due to various medical issues some people have experienced with bands. Peope are having the bands removed and are having gastric bypasses or sleeves. Not everyone has issues, but it is something you may want to consider and you may want to ask the doctor how many of his patients have had the band removed in recent years and/or patients success rate in achieving weight loss long term. I don't know your current BMI, but have you considered a surgical option instead of a band?

    Slow weight loss

    Well done on your weight loss so far. At the weight you are now you are unlikely to be losing more than 10lb a month. I think you are doing great, be kind to yourself. They do say that comparison is the thief of joy, and comparing your weight loss rate to others is doing you no favours at all. Chat to your doctor and/or dietician and agree on some realistic goals for weight loss based on for your current personal circumstances.
  19. Well done. You look wonderful, but you know what is best of all, is that smile in your after photo. It's great to see the weight loss/body changes but it's the smile/change in attitude that I love to see in the after photos. Congratulations!

    1st month diarrhea

    What does her doctor say? In the document below it is suggested not to drink more than one coffee/caffeine drink a day as it could cause cramps or diarrhea. On a daily basis strive for at least 60gms and for water you need to be working up towards about 64oz...(it will take a while before you can probably achieve these targets, don't force yourself, but do make sure you do your best as protein will help keep you satisfied and maintain muscle mass, and you certainly don't want be so dehydrated that you end up in hospital). The good news is there seems to be a few more UK members about, so hopefully they can provide some guidance from a UK perspective. PS I was born in Mancester but family migrated to Australia a long time ago.
  22. It is disappointing that your clinic can't be more helpful. I am in Australia, but i have sometimes looked at this plan for guidance....it may or may not suit you, but it is detailed and has some FAQ. Some of the info may be different than other plans eg refried beans on this plan are a week 4 post op food...but on other plans may be a week 2 or 3...but I guess it depends on how long the food stages are for various plans.     Still a slow loser

    At 314 your BMI was 49, at 224 is 35. Take a moment to acknowledge how well you have done. At a BMI of 49 you would have been classified morbidly obese; You have achieved a lot, don't let impatience be your undoing. Be kind to yourself. It is not taking forever to get out of the 200s, it is your impatience feeling like it is. At your current weight and height your weight loss is going to slow down now, and you will take longer to the lose the remainder weight. You need to acknowledge this and realise you are not a failure because your weight loss pattern is a standard weight loss pattern.
  24. There's a reason many surgeons say don't weigh for a few weeks following surgery. Our bodies are inflammed, swollen and possibly still some fluid retention. Also if you lost a lot of weight in the couple of week pre-surgery this often results in a lower loss in the first week or two following surgery. As long as you are getting sufficient fluids and meeting your food requirements the scales will reflect your efforts soon.

    Post Op Liquid Diet - Juice Ok?

    If they are not on the suggested/approved list of drinks you can have I would give them a miss particularly in the early stages of post op/weight loss. You could always give the nutritionist a call or send an email to ask though. Juices have most of the fibre removed and there a lot of concentrated fruit sugars...makes for a high calorie drink without any protein. Maybe if they were more veggie based as opposed to fruit based there would be less concentrated fruit sugars. As I said, best to check with your nutritionist for now.
