  1. i just roasted some thin sliced carrots w tiny bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic,& onion powder til real soft.i chopped up sm after.i fried some 93./. lean grnd beef but u could do grnd turkey or chicken.i added about a Tb of worcheshire sce,Tb of tom paste, tsp low sodium soy sce,1/2 cup of red wine,1 cup of low sodium bf or chkn broth, some more garlic & onion powder, salt & pepper & simmered 15 mins, then added my carrots bk in along w 1 c of frozen peas thawed.then i poured into a sprayed glass pie plate or 8by 8 dish.then u can either do cauliflower mashed pots or since i could have real mashed pots but i didnt have time so i made some instant ones but i used low sodium chkn broth instead of Water, added at least an extra 1/2c of pot flakes for more flavor, skim milk & some light margarine & i put a Tb of lite deans frnch onion dip but u dont have to do that or u could use lite sour crm or lowfat greek yogurt to make creamy & salt & pepper to taste.after i stirred that up i added in a scoop of Protein powder, unflavored ,& an egg yoke, mixed up & spread over top & baked about 30 mins on 350 or til lightly golden & top w some parsley flakes.u can puree ur serving but i personally couldnt stomach anything but Soup pureed, so i just mashed w my fork & it was the most satisfying.i also made a yummy ricotta bake & layered that & low sugar red sauce over soft steamed zucchini & squash.i made a lowfat, sugar free pumpkin custard.u could do a lowfat,lo carb cheeseburger pie ,an eggbake casserole,or spaghettii squash augratin or lite alfredo.i have roasted acorn squash halves & u can make sweet or savory.i could go on & on,lol some things may be too rich for u or cause heartburn,i was fine though.just depends on what u can have on ur plan.

My mouth just watered! Lol i need you to come prepare all these dishes [emoji23]

Had my surgery on April 24th and no amount of research could prepare me for what I felt! However, things are looking up for sure! I’m walking daily and getting back to feeling normal. I’m struggling with liquids but my mom came in for the surgery and she has a timer set to make sure I’m exercising and drinking. Now, we are in the process of complying some food food ideas for the purée stage. This is something I’m looking forward to after being on liquids going on 3 weeks now! Any recipe suggestions?
Down over 20lbs since i started the liquid diet to now! Woohoo!!!

  3. Ok, this is going to sound gross but I’ve been on my liquid diet almost 2 weeks now and I’m having major Constipation right now. I have taken stool softeners and did an enema. When i go to push, the hard piece is stuck and liquid just comes out around it. So nasty I know! I’ve even resorted to digging pieces out myself and still nothing. Now I’m in pain and crying. I can’t pee because the pain of pushing hurts my butt. Does anyone have a recommendation or should I just call the doctor?

I travel a lot for work. One of the most mortifying moments of my life was getting on a tiny plane (~16 seats) and the seatbelt not fitting. I covered my lap with a blanket and pretended to be asleep. The stewardess actually "woke" me up to check the seatbelt and I shamefully had to get an extender.

I can't pinpoint the exact moment I decided on surgery, but this was definitely one of the major factors that helped push me over the line.

Since surgery, I've been on around 2 dozen flights. I stole that extender so I would never need to ask for one again, but it has been collecting dust. Last month, I proudly took a picture on that same 16 seater plane with about 8 inches of extra room on the belt!

Thanks for sharing your story, Jess! You are awesome and congrats on your progress.

I have PCOS and Acanthosis Nigricans is one of the many effects. My AN manifests itself on my elbows and every time I have lost weight or changed my hormone levels (in the past) my AN has diminished tremendously.

After being on the liquid diet for a few days, I am already noticing a difference. I am truly amazed. I was doing some research and the sugar intake contributes significantly to A.N. On this liquid diet I've only been getting in about 5g of sugar a day.

  6. For those who suffer with A.N., did you recognize a difference with your condition after surgery? Since I was 10 I’ve struggled with darkness in certain areas and would love to see an improvement with surgery. I’ve tried everything possible externally but no improvement.

For those who don’t know, Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin condition that causes dark velvety areas on the body in places such as the armpits, neck, around mouth, etc.

  7. Since January, I have been on a plane a total of 8 times. Every experience has been different. On some planes, I can fit the seat belt no issue and other times I struggle. On Friday, I was traveling and I could NOT get my seat belt to buckle! I almost wanted to cry and I am sure the guy beside me felt bad. All I could think was this is my last plane ride pre-surgery. After a few minutes, it buckled and my arm was sore later like I had worked out! Some of these planes were not built for hippy people and add a stomach on top of that and it's just darn right uncomfortable! Anyway, I am looking forward to not having this issue in the future. Does anyone else have things that they are looking forward to not dealing with after surgery?

I would also add in contrast sometimes the pushback I got was because of ignorance or fear for me that was based in the heartfelt, but completely wrong view of what the surgery is and its risks. At the end of the day while it may change our lives this is a pretty simple surgery with very little downtime and/or complications. Heck the only reason this isn't an outpatient surgery is because they have to make sure you can take in liquids before sending you home.

I found that explaining the surgery to those naysayers got them to understand. If you are dealing with those like "TLHvsg2018" mentioned then as my nana would say "F*ck Them."

That is good advice! I will definitely break it down to them so they are not worrying so much. You have a wise Nana! Words to live by! lol

Thank you! You are gorgeous as well!! Best of luck on your surgery and the dreaded pre-op diet LOL

Thank you and the same to you! I have started now half days on liquid just to ease my way over. I will say that I am not looking forward to it but I will look at all these before and after pictures and imagine my life with potentially not being on metformin and I will push through!

  10. @TLHvsg2018 it is so very important to get rid of the toxic people in your life before making this decision.

You are already "hotter" than them because of your heart! Now you are taking the steps to have that heartbeat for longer in your new healthy body! :)

Yay to being my surgery buddy! I am grateful for the support!

I just peeped your profile and you are gorgeous! They just hating lol!

  11. I recently received my surgery date and it's on April 24th. Since I received my date, I have told a few people in my closest circle of friends and family. However, I have received a little pushback from people who I thought would be supportive. For example, my mom keeps trying to find excuses for me to push back my surgery date by saying things like, "oh let's wait until after you finish building your house" or "oh it's a stressful time at work right now you should push it off." I've just been standing firm and saying that no time is ever going to be perfect. Then today, one of my close friends stated, " I am worried about you because of everything going on right now (budget cuts at our job and reorganization occurring)." I know they care about me but I am tired of having to defend my decision to have a healthier lifestyle.
