May Bandsters~December Chat!
My goal on my ticker is my tentative stopping point. I think I want to weigh less than that but it has been so long since I have been in the 100's I'm not sure what 170 will even look like! A confession... As it was, using 170 as my goal put me needing to lose 110 pounds.... I couldn't stomach a number bigger than that at the time! Whew! I've never told anyone that before. You guys rawk!

The year was 1906
THE YEAR 1906 This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1906. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for the Year 1906: ************************************ The average life expectancy in the U.S.was 47 years old. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower! The average wage in the U.S.was 22 Cents per hour. The average U.S.worker made between $200 and $400 per year . A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist made $2,500 per year, a veterinarian $1,500 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S.took place at HOME. Ninety percent of all U.S.doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death in the U.S.were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 U.S.adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." ( Shocking? ) There were about 230 reported Murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. ! Now I sent it to you and others all over the United States, possibly the world, in a matter of just Seconds !!!!!!!!! PASS THIS ALONG!!!!! Just Try to imagine..... what it may be like .... in another 100 years !!!!!!! IT STAGGERS THE MIND !!!!!!!!!

Chewing Gum
I agree that sometimes we play the part of enablers around here but at the same time people come here for support and we need to be compassionate to them. I'm sure you didn't mean to come off as harsh, just wanted to let you know how I took it. No harm done. I am by no means perfect either, I don't think any of us are. Sometimes I think we all need to remember that and while we are entitled to our opinions we need to be sensitive to how others perceive our words. Peace out.

Chewing Gum
Wow! Kinda harsh comments to someone who wants to hold onto chewing gum. It's not like she's gonna kill herself chewing gum...geez! Chew on I say if it makes you happy!

May Bandsters~December Chat!
Here we are in December already! I don't know about you but 7 months into this crazy journey has been amazing for me. I have offically lost 53 pounds since I was banded, actually down 63 pounds from my heaviest weight of 290. YIKES! I am fitting comfortably into size 18 pants, from the misses section! I have been shopping in the little tiny fat girls section for so long that I didn't realize how much stores have to offer normal sized people! I was at Kohl's on Monday with a girlfriend and I wandered through the entire Misses section and it just went on and on and on. I was shocked! My MIL has lost quite a bit of weight since I was banded (hubby says I inspired her to get healthier, yay!) and we were discussing last week how scary and overwhelming it is to have so many choices in clothes. When your world is small, like the "womens" section, it gets comfortable, but when you have to venture out of that box it sure is scary! Can't quite get my head around that one yet. I need to get to Old Navy this weekend and get a couple of pairs of new jeans to get me through for awhile. My too big jeans are just ridiculous looking on me now. I am looking forward to the holidays and spending time with family and friends. I won't be embarassed to have my picture taken this year! I will get some new pics posted next weekend! Happy December everyone!

Anyone know any holistic cancer treatments??
Angela.... Thank you SO MUCH for responding! I don't know all the details of her condition but I am going to pass along your post to my friend. I hope that's okay if she emails you. I actually just set her up with my mom's massage therapist who also does Reiki and a bunch of other stuff. I had Reiki when I had my tonsils out and it was AMAZING!
