Women's sizes - am I crazy?

Recommended Posts

I always just kind of knew that 1X = X-Large. I mean, "1X" means it has one "X", and "X-Large" has one X. Just like "2X" would be "XXL", "3X" "XXXL", etc.

Am I wrong?

I really want to know.

Because this weekend, my mother and I disgreed about that (she believes "1X" is the same as "XXL") -- and THREE retail clothing clerks we involved in the discussion also agreed with her.

Their premise is that S, M, L, and XL are "base" sizes. XXL begins "plus" sizes. Saying "1X" indicates "1 size into the plus sizes", which is XXL.

:o:D

From my experience, 2X does not equal XXL. An example, we ordered team shirts at work, and the Admin translated the 2X two of us put down as XXL. And the shirts were too small. They sent 2X, they were fine.

I do fine that XXL is about a 1X, and so on.

I used to work in retail. There is a difference in XL & 1X. XL is basic XL, 1X is womens XL. It is not the same as regular XL, it is "slightly larger", and it could be the same size as XXL, but I do believe it is slighly smaller than XXL, in the comparison I did. Its just made for a "womans size", versus misses. Most of the regular s,m,l and xl are made misses style, a little more fitting in areas, vs 1x and is less fitting around the waist (in tops) and it might be a little bigger in the boob area. But I would not say it is exactly the same as XXL.

I'll give you an example (when I was smaller, about 5 years ago), I was wearing a 14W. I tried on a 14 regular, and it was too snug, but I found the same dress in a 14W and it fit like a glove. I even tried on a 16 in the dress in the regular and it was too small, but the 14W fit perfect.

The difference is Womens clothes are made with "less" curve, they are even made different than misses. They might not be much bigger, just made different and fit better for some. Its hard to explain and I hope you understand.

Well since sizing is NEVER consistent from store to store anyway, i never even try to equate sizes. I just try on what "looks" right and dont really worry about what the label says.

XXL in Target and XXL in a big and tall men's store for example for my DH are two ENTIRELY different things.

Wheetsin - I agree with your mom. For me XXL is most similar to 1X. I actually think the 1X's might be cut slightly larger than XXL since 1X is a plus size.

I went shopping for smaller clothes (well, not that much smaller) and ran into the size problem. I may be able to wear and XL in one blouse but have to get a 2X in another one. I got size 16 pants and they fit, but I got some size 14 stretch jeans and they fit too. I read an editorial about this lately and it seems that men's clothes are made to measurements, but women's clothes are all over the place. Some clothes makers like Alfred Dunner make really big clothes so you can get a small size even though the clothes really aren't that small. It's all very confusing and it takes a lot of time trying on clothes which I loathe. So I just buy stuff from ebay (big surprise, huh?) and either it fits, or I wear it anyway. I got my mother an expensivef 2x cashmere sweater several years ago for Christmas. She put in a drawer and forgot about it, but I decided I was going to get it out and wear it. It has little holes all over it. Apparently silverfish eat cashmere. I just love the sweater because it's lightweight but warm, but I guess I'll just wear it to the grocery store. However, I bought myself two used cashmere sweaters on ebay and I will just keep them in the freezer. Silverfish don't like freezers.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
