    TMI but need help

If the vomiting and dehydration has been over 24 hrs I’d be in the ER. The 9 days no BM is also not good. My program said to call the surgeons office or go to a doctor if it’s been over 7 days. I agree with bringing documentation! Especially since there are many meds sleevers should stay away from and fluid requirements that may be different from the non sleeved persons. Get well soon!!!

    Baritastic app question.

If they don’t know what it is I’m guessing they don’t participate. My program did and our code was in our seminar binder.

    QUICK WLS

Oops. Might help for me to reply instead of quote I have no idea what the answer is to the low BMI question, but I will say my BMI was 34 and my surgeon told me that made me a “perfect candidate” and I would do “exceedingly well” because of my lower BMI. Surgery was 11/28 and I’m down 22lbs. I think that’s pretty darn good for a “low BMIer”

    November sleevers here

My surgery was 11/28. I’m meeting my protein and fluid goals fairly easily, but this exercise thing has been killer! I walk at least a mile a day, but any slight hill I’m huffing and puffing! Can’t wait to have a little more energy [emoji5] but I’ll push through it until then and give myself some grace.
  6. My doc said in our seminar folks that have bypass should allow at least 2 week’s recovery and the sleeve patients should allow at least one week recovery. I was sleeved and took my 3 weeks off since I had the hours saved up. No sense rushing the recovery.
  7. From what I’ve seen they are similar. I had the sleeve and have 5 very small scars that look like this “-“ little horizontal dashes [emoji5] the people I know who had bypass also have 5-6 in a similar shape.

    constipation!

I’m a miralax every other day person until I can add fiber back in my diet. My plan actually says “low fiber stage” until the beginning of week 8. I’m on week 3!

    Best single app for everything?

I use Baritastic for the journal feature and the syncing to my surgery center—if you “sync” it to your faculty you should have access to all the pre and post op instructions/resources. I track my food and exercise with my fitness pal.

    Help! Office Potluck!

**oops, forgot you might be wanting to bring something you can enjoy as well. I don’t like soda but my office does, so for a couple bucks it all gets consumed and I don’t have anything to bring home! So that probably wouldn’t work if you want to be able to enjoy.

    Help! Office Potluck!

When I went on my pre surgery diet and now post op I started bringing drinks to potlucks—diet and regular coke to be exact people usually forget about drinks assuming people will bring their own, but on my team at least, people forget that a lot!
  13. My boyfriend is losing as well, although he was 160 so I’m kind of [emoji849] about it ha. He’s walking with me and eating the recipes I eat, just normal portions not baby portions!
  14. My surgery was 11/28. I was told to do my best to get to the fluid goals but if I didn’t make them it wasn’t the end of the world, but they cautioned me against dehydration so that was a good motivator. My goals started at 24, then 32, now I’m at 48 (end of week 2). Keep sipping! It’ll add up. If it doesn’t, a sugar free popsicle is 3 easy ounces I lived on popsicles the few days after my surgery. The emotional bit I didn’t have past day 3. But I cried at random times day 1-3. But I hear any emotional swings are normal early on, but keep an eye on it!

Being Prepared For Those Post-Op weeks:

I got gas x strips off amazon (6 boxes) last week. Cost me $60 or so. They didn’t have any less, only a pack of 6 but I scooped them up since they aren’t in store anymore
  16. I’m 27, 5’5 and my surgery weight was 214. I’m 204 now, 12 days post op. I’ve been “stuck” at 204 for 5 days but I hear that’s normal. Body adjusting and all that. I was told to do 32 oz of liquid days 2-6, then it increased to 40-48 oz until day 15. After that I’m supposed to hit 64oz daily. What helped me always meet my liquid goal was sipping every 5 minutes from a cup that had the ounces marked on the side. My water bottles have the tick marks and I got a cup from my hospital too helped me keep track and know how I’m progressing. Now I’ve had the routine of getting at least 20 oz by 1pm. If I don’t meet that I know I’m off track. You’ll soon find a routine for sipping and drinking that works for you. Also, a sugar free popsicle is 3oz and that counted as liquid for my diet. The first few days I kind of lived on popsicles and broth. I started protein drinks on day 4. My puréed foods started on day 6. My diet consists of protein drinks, mushed up beans, and various types of cheeses. On day 15 I get to have “solid foods” which includes meat and fish finally! But a meal for me will only be 2 oz 3 times a day. Another thing that’s been crucial for me is exercise. At first I only did laps around the lower level of my house, now I’m up to 1.5 miles a day walking outside. Exercise helped me get the gas out early on and it’s obviously important for this lifestyle change anyway! But I’m not cleared for weights or anything until week 8 I think the most important things are to stay hydrated and keep your protein intake up! Helps the healing process. And what helped motivate me early on was saying in my head “I’m not going to the hospital for dehydration!” since that happens easily after this surgery. I don’t know if your doctors office has a nurse line, but if the diet and liquid requirements are confusing you could always call them for clarification?

    Just came home from surgery

Walk, walk, and walk some more. Helps move the gas around and for me at least helped me burp a bunch. Which made things much more tolerable. I also used chewable gas x which helped with non Surgical gas pain day 4-6.

    Purée foods

There’s a ricotta bake recipe on Pinterest for the purée stage. It’s good if you like Italian! Ricotta cheese, mozerella, Italian seasoning, marinara sauce, Parmesan. I searched “bariatric ricotta bake” on Pinterest and it came up. I’m also eating refried beans and Mexican blend cheese. It’s pretty good.
  19. I’m looking for bariatric cookbooks or something similar. I’m looking at a few weight watchers ones since they are usually low carb high protein as well, but wondered if there were any good ones out there specifically for bariatric patients. Any cookbooks you like? Thanks!

    Sit ups

I’m not cleared for anything besides walking until 6 weeks at least, probably 8

    Second guessing my decision

I had a BMI of 35. I’m 27 and didn’t want to see the scale keep going up as I get older. I needed this tool to help me find a new healthier normal

    Just checking in

I put miralax in Powerade zero (blue one) and it worked. Couldn’t taste it.

    What was your worst day?

I’m day 8 and my worst day so far was day 6. The gas pain in my shoulder was almost unbearable. But otherwise I’ve been feeling good!

    Emotional First Aid Kit Book

This was on my recommended reading list as well. I thought some parts were pretty simple/basic, but overall a good read. A lot of it I remember from psychology and social work majors
  25. I’m post op day 7 and taking my daily “laps” around my lower level to keep moving. I also take a 20 minute walk a day. I’ve noticed every day after my walk I have issues with my fluid intake. I have pain when I sip and the fluid goes down and I feel the gurgles. Anyone familiar with this? I’m supposed to get up to 40 fluid ounces today and I’m not even close due to the odd pain and tummy resistance after my walks. I take an antacid twice a day so I don’t think it’s acid issues...[emoji848]
