MamaB05! got a reaction from LauraAnn68 in Weight gain in the first two weeks post op
Hey yall!! I had my surgery on monday oct 23 and yesterday i had a very rough day! Anytime i drank or tried to eat sugar free Jello, shortly after id get the cold sweats, then id have a bunch of foam come up then it was liquid throw up. This was the worst ever- i actually told my husband that i think i made a mistake and wished i never did this!! But today i felt perfectly fine and kept everything down!! I even had my first shart- fart but it ended up being liquid poop. I apologize for being graphic but i guess my point is to yall who are noticing some gain, it could be the combination of liquids and stored up waste that will eventually come out! Just dont trust that its only going to be gas!!
also, i no longer feel i made a mistake- i am very excited for this journey and looking fw to walking it with yall!!

This is normal. Be patient it'll happen. For me, I had one on the 6th day after surgery. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids. Also, you may experience constription several months after surgery. So my advice is to drink, drink and drink. And don't forget to walk throughout the day. Congrats and good luck in this new journey!

Many individuals do not have bowel movements for several days after surgery. It is sort of like "liquids in, liquids out".

I'm a guy and I'm with you 100%. I told a few close relatives about my surgery. They all kept it quiet as did my wife. A friend once told me that he was dying of cancer. I confided this with my wife and told her not to tell anyone since it wasn't our place to say anything. Another neighbor made a comment about how my friend doesn't look so good. My wife told her that he was dying of cancer. I was beside myself, a trust was broken and it really bothered me. My wife to her credit realized that she did wrong and I'm sure it wont happen again. The difference between my wife and your husband is that she realized what she did was wrong. Your husband doesn't see that he did the wrong thing by betraying your confidence.
As for me, I don't think its anyone's business what I decide to do as far as my health is concerned. As for explaining the weight loss I tell people at work that four of my friends and me each put $1000 in a pot and the one to lose the most weight by new years wins the pot. Basically, I told them I'm on a diet to win $5,000. It seems to be working as most people at work don't even comment on my weight loss after the explanation.

    M.A.,
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m just like you.. in that... I want no one to know. I’m very private as well. My husband knows and that’s all. I’ve reminded him often not to tell and I think he won’t. He told me he had to tell work why he was taking a few days off and he said he told them I was having surgery but didn’t specify why. My surgery is tomorrow and so far my husband has kept his word... that I know of.
Some may tell you it’s no big deal, but it is a big deal that he told. All you can do is be honest with him about your feelings. Let him know you are hurt that he didn’t respect a wish of yours - something that was important to you. I’m sure you already told him but it’s important that no matter what he feels you want him to hear YOUR feelings.
Maybe you won’t have to deal with his business partner in the future. Your mother-in-law I’m sure you’ll see more often. If they talk about it, I would minimize the conversation. I won’t expand on it unless you want to. Sometimes if the conversation is shut down people get the hint and move on.
Most importantly, you need to focus on yourself. You are doing this for you, your health. I wish you the best!!

Ok, so I can't remember where I read this, but I read something about our gut biome changing very quickly in response to changes in our diet. So I wanted to open this for a round table here with you brainiacs. It proposed that eating a healthy diet can make us start craving healthy foods, rather than our old CRAP diets, the SAD--which make us crave...you guessed! More crap! I was eating lunch today: big ass chopped salad with freshly smoked turkey and avocado tomatillo salsa and was reveling in how much I jones for this salad these days--how much I actually enjoy eating a crap ton of veggies, more fruit than I'm used to, and adequate servings of low fat Protein. I actually feel like I crave them! But it wasn't so long ago that I was jonesing for Lay's or Whataburger chicken Fingers and Cream Gravy! So I went looking and found these articles about the gut biome and our diet.

No, you're definitely not in this alone, we're all here for each other - thank God for that! Let's start with BOTH of us holding each other accountable & only weigh a week from now - we can do it ! What do you say?

I understand your concern. I haven't exactly gained, but after 3 weeks I hit a stall from surgery & although people say it happens (& you'll suddenly start losing wt. again) it's worrisome to me too. So, I've been at a stall for 3 weeks. I'll lose a lb. gain a lb. - as difficult as it is, I really think I need to stop weighing daily & weigh once a week. Also, step up my walking distance a little as able. I'm sure you'll be fine sticking to the Dr.'s orders & we'll have to cheer for each other!

Hi all, so I have a question because I'm freaking out a bit. The day off my bypass 13 days ago I went into the hospital weighing 275lbs. After surgery my weight went up 10lbs while still in the hospital which I understand is from the IV fluids and what not. However after coming home, I dropped to 264lbs and in the past three days I have gained 3lbs. I know that's not a drastic gain but I'm still concerned. Has anyone else had weight gain after leaving the hospital during the first couple weeks post op ?
