  1. Sometimes I have a tendency to wakeup to leg cramps and have had this issue before WLS. I try to drink as much Water as possible when I think of it. I work out a lot more in the yard and in the gym after WLS so I try to keep hydrated (6-8 cups). The last few nights I have been cramping really badly in my feet, legs and now hands. I have found that when I take Hylands Homeopathic Muscle Cramps and Pain Relief Mag Phox X6 under the tongue and followed by a glass of water the cramps subside and I go back to sleep. Night before last I had to do this twice to relieve my cramps. I take my Vitamins and eat about 1000-1500 calories a day. I workout almost everyday. I will schedule a check with my doctor. Any suggestions would be helpful.


  2. Nice to have a standup desk! I have a sedentary job in IT. I get up at zero dark thirty and SSS (Do my bathroom duties). Then I head out to work stopping at the gym to get my blood flowing. I used to love basketball and spent much of my youth playing basketball, volleyball and tennis. I have renewed my love of basketball by checking out a basketball every morning. Then I dribble the ball a few times around the court and practice shooting for a minimum of 20-30 minutes. I finish with weight machines and towel heavily to minimize wet under garments. Change my under garments as needed and go to work. When I am home, I try to stay off the couch and do yard work, cleaning, ironing, cooking and housework. I try to keep in motion most of the time to make up for the sedentary job I have. I also am a Nintendo Wii fanatic, which I picked up doing rehab for my knee surgeries. You can buy a used Wii online for $40 and used games cheap. The Wii exercise will have you sweating good if done properly and builds bonds with your children. (Sitting on the couch doing Wii is no Bueno) I try to walk around a couple of minutes every hour at work. My point is I try to make moving fun as that is a key to success IMHO. You have to give yourself credit for housework, moving and all the activity you do that gets your heart rate up. I also document food, exercise and activity in a calorie counting myfitnesspal program.


  3. MG I was sleeved on 10/2 and doing well also. I am down 36 pounds from surgery and 81 pounds total. I am 19 pounds from 100 and have 41 pounds to reach my goal of 185. We are the same height. Tough staying away from sweets this time of year for my company gets bombarded with gift basket after gift basket:P. I need to increase my Water intake and stay on top of my Vitamins and Protein. Slacked off from the gym last week but going back to daily gym this week. Been working on strength and muscle toning as well as minimum of 30 minutes of daily cardio. Had been on a stall for a few weeks but weight is creeping off again. Keep up the good work!

    Oh yikes I’ve never heard of someone not being sent home with a binder. It is an undergarment (usually Velcro to adjust) for compression and it’s also protects the incision and makes it so you don’t put strain on your stomach makes it alittle tougher to bend down.

But the really dense grainy breads don't have the same effect. We had avocado and smoked salmon on some dense whole wheat type (German style) bread and it was delicious, filled me for hours, and didn't give me any tummy trouble at all.

    I learned a valuable lesson last night. Eating on the run in your car is a no-no and almost lost it last night and vowed never to eat on the run again. You forget to slowly chew your food and wolf it down like you used to when gaining weight.

    I agree with Brandeis. I don't totally deny myself anything and will "taste" anything. I believe moderation is the key and there is no harm in sampling a bite or two, just don't over due anything and count your intake. Don't abuse yourself or diet. Always preferring sugarless when it's an option.,

    I too like oatmeal especially the steel cut oats, but read recently a recommendation to only have a couple of servings a week after WLS. I cook a quarter cup which cooks into a full cup with cinnamon, artificial sweetner and a little lowfat milk.

    I am noticing it at one month after surgery mind you that I lost 45 pounds prior to surgery. Stomach is getting wrinkles. Add another 22 pounds after surgery and that is 67 pounds. I believe I started noticing the wrinkles at 50 pounds and just started treating with Vitmin E oil and keratin moisturizers. Also keep in mind that wrinkles are different for everyone depending on your heritage, age and weight loss.


  9. Why be nervous? I was excited to have a real chance to turn my life around as you should be. I am as excited as I was when I had both knees replaced. No more aches and pains, I can do a swap meet now! Yes, I have lost hundreds of pounds through the years just to put it back on. And now we have this tool that can change our lives if we want to maximize it. With the help of these sites, a good doctor and nutritionist you will be back to running again within the year. But you have to be seriously committed and really want to be a success story, failure is not an option. Yes I got greedy and tried to eat the whole thing but you will only get sick or worse. I look at this opportunity as one last chance to undo my foolish choices in my past. Just think in one year you can reverse that unhealthy body and lifestyle.

  10. I can only answer for myself. I am sure it is a different yet similar circumstance for the masses of this site.

    Pros
    1. To live a longer and healthier life, and see my grandchildren grow up.
    2. To weed off medications, I am taking three pills just for blood pressure.
    3. Not being singled out as the fat person and looked down on.
    4. To fit into normal clothes and not worry about stores not having the jumbo sizes.
    5. To be more active sexually.
    6. To have more confidence, when I am slimmer I am more outgoing and confident.
    7. To have my sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes and ED go away.
    8. To start wearing those clothes in my closet that I have been putting off for a few more pounds.
    9. I get compliments almost every day on the weight I have lost and how much better I look.
    10. Your social life will get better.

    Cons
    1. You have to be serious committed to make major sacrifices at mealtime. No hearty meals.
    2. I can only eat between 1/2 - 1 cup of food at a time.
    3. Forsake certain foods for at least the first year such as pizza, white rice and heavy starches. (I sample)
    4. Trying to eliminate loose saggy skin, skin loses elasticity as you age.
    I am trying Vitamin E and Keratin moisturizers and gym workouts to fill with muscles.
    5. You have to conquer old habits and wants for a newer you. Mental challenges.

I will be honest with you, I’m kind of nervous. My mom who is heavy set herself who is also a diabetic has the audacity to lecture me what I shouldn’t be eating before my surgery date. She gave me this entire speech / lecture as though she had been sleeved before and advised me of the vegetables I shouldn’t be eating before my surgery date. According to her its standard surgery procedure. I might bleed to death. I was so annoyed! I was so taken back. Unfortunately I don’t have anyone to be with me after the surgery she is the only person that’s not working that will be available to drive me home from the hospital. I have concerns. I feel as though she’s going to try to either challenge or try to knock me down and I can’t let her! I need to embrace for impact!

    You should be able to get the online support you need here. Good Luck! Stay strong and in your mother's eyes she is probably only trying to help or mother you as best she knows how. Placate her the best you can and keep focus.


  12. I have always had a gym membership, but got really serious pre-op surgery and started waking and toning muscles. I agree with you that it is a great way to start and my recovery time was one week. My surgeon told me that I would be back in the gym a week after my laparoscopic sleeve surgery and I was. Of course I didn't do anything crazy my first week and concentrated on cardio and light workouts. Good Luck!


  13. I too sit at a desk all day and took 7 days off to recover from my gastric sleeve surgery. My surgeon assured me that I would be back in the gym lifting heavy in one week after WLS. I had stepped up my workouts and weight loss prior to my surgery. As part of my new life style along with diet, I am back in the gym regaining lost muscle and trying to minimize skin sag.


  14. I used pre-packaged broth and also made my own using cut beef bone from the Asian market, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper. First I braise the beef bones then add a few cut up celery stalks, chunked whole carrots and onion. Boil for a couple of hours and salt and pepper to taste. Then strain out the solid ingredients. I also add a little fresh lemon juice and a little finely chopped fresh cilantro and jalapeno just before serving. The home-made broth made the liquid diet far more palatable and I looked forward to having it for dinner.
