Started my two week liquid diet today. Surgery is November 8th. Anybody else out there with the same surgery date. Would love to have some people to bounce things off of and talk to during this journey.

Hello everyone. I need your help. I already had my surgery about 3 months ago and are feeling great at this point but, I have my wife who had hers about 3 1/2 weeks ago and she's still having a hard time. She's experiencing bad nausea, stomach discomfort and some vomiting. She's hardly eating anything because of how she's feeling. She has contacted her surgeon and he prescribed some nausea medication but, even with that she is feeling the same. She has an appointment set to see him next Monday. What I need help with is knowing if feeling this way is normal? I myself didn't go through that but, has anyone experienced this?

Hi I previously posted, but have not gotten any responses yet. As I posted YEAH surgery date Nov 08,2017 in FL for a gastric by-pass. Anyone else scheduled for that date? All those going through this journey I send thoughts and blessings to you. I'm one happy woman this is finally here after 6mo of jumping through hoops for insurance. I feel like I've in bariatric college ‍my brain is on overload!

I did it! I lost 135 lbs in 10months and climbed to Everest Base Camp this week. It took 10 days hiking up and 5 days down. This was my first hiking experience ever. I been dreaming to do this for the past 5 years and finally it is checked off my bucket list! I feel so good every day. Even on my bad days I feel better then when I weight 294lbs. That is success to me!

1badassbiggurl reacted to FluffyChix in Surgery date 11/30/17.....its getting real!
Gosh I totally get it. I have been going through my head for the last week or 2 (since my last RD appt). Yesterday I saw the surgeon and she's like...well hell! She said I had my 3 visits from the RD and she was gonna submit me for approval. We chose the surgery and wrote it in blood. Killed a newt and took its eye. Ripped out a lizard tongue and drew a pentagram on the floor. So I'm pretty sure this is a done deal. LOL. And I am scared.
On the way home I asked my self if I REAAAAALLLYYYY thought I would lose the rest of my weight on my own. Why would it be any different than the other eleventy billion times I've tried and failed. What would make it happen this time. What would make keeping it off a reality? Why wouldn't I just regain it all again plus the requisite 10-15%? The only answer I could come up with involved magic or voodoo.
Since I'm a good Catholic girl, I just figured I need to sac up and get my head, as*, and tummy in the game. (I had to "borrow a pair" to sac up...but you get the idea.) The reality is that the ONLY way I'm gonna be successful is to do something different this time. I think "that something different" is gonna have to be the RNY surgery. It just is and I have to get right with the Lord about that one. *sigh*
So now I'm in a waiting game. I "think" what's gonna happen is that I will get approved maybe in the next 2-3 weeks. Then my family vaca at Wurstfest that the surgeon knows about...then that Monday I would start the liquid diet. I think that means I will be in surgery (she only operates on Tuesday) on November 28 or December 5 and this sh*t is gonna be a reality...
So maybe we can get "the band back together" and be November surgery buddies. I just don't know if I'm jinxing things and jumping the gun by thinking it's gonna be November OR December. You know?
What are you doing to prepare your mental game for the "big show?"

Here is my opinion I was 398 the day of surgery April 6 today I’m around 270. I have loose skin especially my back. I have to re adjust when I lay down. But what I tell people. Would you rather be fat and die younger or have extra skin and live longer

It depends on several factors. We are pretty close in height (6'-5") and I'm down to about 345 from a high of 640. My goal weight is 250 so I'm a reasonably large person to begin with. If you're on a smaller frame and have more to lose, you may have some. Genetics, age, how much excess weight, and how long you had it will all factor in. I can say that even with the excess, I'm still much happier and getting opportunities that I never had before.

I am shocked to say that my approval came in less than 24 hours! I had one final thing to do (get PCP letter to surgeon) and then - BAM! - approval! :huh2: :huh2: (ETA: The insurance woman from the hospital said that she has never seen an approval come through so quickly.)
This seems like it went a little too easily, but I know how lucky I am that I am able to get this surgery covered by insurance. As of January 1st, my insurance is changing and, though surgery is covered, MY surgeon is not in their network. There is no way I want to start all over again, so I am glad to be having the surgery on 10-Nov-10!!
Oh, I live in PA and my BMI was exactly 40 (no co-morbid conditions) at the first doctor visit of my journey. I have since lost 17 pounds by dramatically reducing the amount of carbs I eat.
I wish everyone all the best in their journeys!!

I just had the surgery yesterday.... and now that it has happened I realized my fear was not being able to do what got me here in the first place..... eating whatever I want.....
Everything went excellent and now a new stage in my life begins.....

I had RNY in January of this year and I had similar fears going in (I have severe GERD so sleeve was not an option). I have not had very few issues with food intolerance and no dumping. I have tolerated all meat that I've tried. In the first 1-3 months I would occasionally get a little nauseous from some meats but that passed after my stomach healed. I do have trouble with sometimes is dry chicken - but really, who wants to eat gross dry chicken??? And I don't vomit or anything, I just get a bit of a 'stuck' feeling and have to stop eating. The only times I have truly gotten sick (i.e. vomiting or pain) was because I ate more than I should have and didn't pay attention when my stomach said it was full. I have noticed that now I can just take a bite of something to get the flavors and then move on (especially with sugar/desserts). I think the 'fear' in the back of my head of getting sick helped me pick up that habit and it's something I still do now even though I know I won't actually get sick.

I had RNY and I have never had problems with dumping with eating sugar or fat. I'm actually sad about that. I also have no trouble eating meat. In the beginning meat is difficult because your new stomach is healing and it makes you feel very full after only a few bites. The trick is the meat has to be very moist and you need to take very small bites and chew very well. As I healed, eating meat became easier and I now can pretty much eat any meat - steak, pork, chicken, shrimp, etc.

My surgeon suggested the sleeve as first option , but when I learned that bypass is the best option to avoid diabetes, even I am not diabetic my thought was that it was a good insurances agains it as it runs in my family... I have Do have high blood pressure and that is the main reason why I am having WLS in the first place ... it just that I do not see myself not being able to enjoy some of my favorite foods with moderation ...and bypass will limit my options far more than the sleeve .... am I right ?
