Well he has said he doesn’t have much luck with the ladies. The problem is that he thinks it was because he was fat, when in reality it’s because he has a terrible personality.

To Mikey’s credit he has been consistent with his attitude for a year now. Always a bit self centered and very matter a fact. Very much his way is right yours is wrong. A bit of a narcissist. He went from an awkward fat man to a confident skinny man. Outside of the WLS community this behavior is called being a d**k.
  5. Thanks

No you're not, not one little bit. You love that you've been super successful and now you've forgotten what it was like the hundreds of times you tried to lose weight and failed pre WLS. You forget too easily that you had to have an entire organ bypassed from your digestive tract to get you where you are today. Don't forget, have compassion and empathy.

Wow, no-one will ever need weight loss surgery any more! I wish I'd read this post years earlier, it would definitely have fixed my years of struggle with weight gain and loss, and eating disorders.
Seriously though, tough love DOES NOT WORK. I'd have thought the fact that we have all needed weight loss surgery is a clue to that. My eating disorder was not something I could out think, fix with a diet or just white knuckle through with willpower.
If you made the mental decision and that was all it took, why get surgery???

It's just ridiculous. This need to brag almost continuously also comes across quite pathetic.

I’m 5 weeks post op today. I lost zero pounds week 3 and 4, which was discouraging but I anticipated happening. Down 4 this morning so I think my stall has broken! Down 34 total and feeling really great.

I’ll start by saying my nutritional support through my surgeon is somewhat lacking, but I feel ok with my progress and have really dug into research on my own.
I’m almost 6 weeks post op, and took a punishing spinning class this morning. It felt great. (Cleared for it by my surgeon!) Apple Watch isn’t totally reliable, but it says I burned around 600 calories. Now I don’t know how to eat the rest of the day. I’ve only eaten when legitimately hungry this afternoon, still focusing on Protein and veggies. Can anyone else who does heavy exercise advise me on how and if you adjust calories?

I didn’t have a leak, just a GI bleed. They never found out where I was bleeding from because it had stopped by the time they got me into emergency surgery. I did have a full liter of blood in my abdominal cavity that had to be suctioned out, however. I received 2 bags of blood as well and felt much better.
My biggest symptom was blacking out when moving from a chair to bed, walking to the bathroom, etc. My blood pressure was very low and my heart rate was around 140 lying in bed. I was very short of breath when lying down too. It felt like my lungs couldn’t expand fully. The doctor immediately ordered a CT which showed all the blood where it was not supposed to be.
It all came on fairly quickly. I was drinking fluids and walking a ton immediately post-op. I felt great. Then when I got up to go to the bathroom in the evening I fainted. I was sleeved in the US. My doctor said his bleed rate is about .02 percent, so extremely rare.

It just depends on your surgeon. I’m 5 weeks out and have them finely chopped in tuna salad.

I’m 4 weeks out and the doctor has given me the ok to go back to cardio and strength training. This is really the first week I would’ve felt ok to do so anyway, clearance or not.

Do you struggle with reflux currently? If so bypass might be a better option. I had mild reflux so I decided to go with the sleeve. Zero reflux since I had it done a month ago.
Dumping was a consideration for me too. I personally wanted to live my life having a slice of cake on my birthday or a cookie with my kids from time to time. Some people feel like they need the strictness of bypass that will never allow them to eat certain foods again.
Malabsorption was a factor for me as well.
FWIW, obviously I don’t know your friend, but I’d guess it wasn’t the sleeve that failed her. Slider foods, grazing all day, heavy carbs, etc. will definitely stall your progress and cause regain. My head hunger is for sure still there. It’s a lot of work! (I hope that doesn’t sound like I’m judgmental of her. I get it.)

I’d stick with the liquid diet. It doesn’t sound like you’re getting much Protein? I was doing mostly Protein Shakes on liquid, plus unflavored Protein Powder mixed into strained cream Soups. 60 grams of protein per day was the goal from my nutritionist.

It’s only a bad habit if you’re eating mindlessly. If you’re truly hungry and it fits in your calories, it really doesn’t matter what time of day you’re eating!

I had surgery June 2 so tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I had a GI bleed post surgery, and had to be rushed back in and opened back up. The bleed had stopped on its own, but I had 50 ounces of blood just hanging out in my abdominal cavity. Had that removed and received a few bags of blood.
I’d say as of today I’m about 98% back to normal. I still get a little tired when I walk too much, but I’m cleaning house, chasing my kids, picking up groceries, etc. My husband has been super protective, grabbing things out of my hands to carry if I so much as lift a pack of toilet paper to carry inside. Haha.
I may never be able to look at a Premier Protein shake again when this is done, but getting Protein and Water in has gone pretty well. I’ve always been a huge water drinker so the hardest part has just been not being able to chug water and always feeling just a little bit thirstier than I’d like.
27 pounds down including my one week pre-op diet!

I’m 37 and was sleeved 3 weeks ago. I had a major complication with a GI bleed, but once that was under control my recovery has been smooth sailing. Today I’m about 95% back to normal, just holding off on the lifting. I was tired in the afternoon the first two weeks but that has eased up too.
Including my one week pre-op diet I’m down 30 pounds!

My surgeon who has been performing WLS for 20 years said he believes stretching the sleeve is a myth. He said people regain because of all day grazing or concentration of calories (like drinking them.)

The question here is not whether you CAN drink carbonated beverages, it's whether you SHOULD.
I am more than 2 years out and over that time, have had maybe 2 sips of soda-fountain rootbeer, which is a little flatter than the canned variety. I could and had no issue with it.
However, as someone stated above when re-introducing carbonated beverages into your diet you run the risk of drinking a lot of calories. Even if you drink the sugar-free variety, there are studies that have shown artificial sweeteners, including and especially sugar-free beverages lead to craving more sugar and carbohydrates.
I don't drink them and I don't miss them. It's about making good choices for YOU and considering what you put in your body as FUEL, not for pleasure or because you're bored.
