desertdivalv got a reaction from FluffyChix in Help? Advice? November 2017 Sleeved
I totally understand! I was sleeved 11.17.17 and to date have lost 25lbs. Some days I get discouraged, but I keep telling myself that I would have NEVER lost this much weight in this amount of time prior to surgery. I agree with FluffyChix to not compare yourself with others (I know this is easier said than done). You are doing great, and you will get there - slow & steady wins the race!

Naieshait, you're gonna be ok, and you are losing weight. Keep clicking along and trust your program.
The exercise you're doing is awesome, keep it up.
So you had a damned cookie and chips. Everyone's going to experiment with junk again at some point. (Or close to everyone?) LOL. I sure have.
For me, I kinda do test out riding that dragon a little....just to prove to myself that I can. Just to say...hey, I can have a bite of this and step away. I've got that control. It's important to me to do that. Some people think it's dangerous to do this and they avoid temptation completely. It's individual. I need to prove I can do it to feel in control. If I can't have a bite and walk away...food has won. Isn't that weird? For some people...if you take a bite...food has won. We're all different.
But the key thing is....stepping away and not getting sucked into old habits. It can happen when we're feeling discouraged....so you really need to watch out for that!
But you can do this. You're actually doing really, really well so far! Just gotta be patient. People who generally lose a little slower...lose a little longer...and at the end of 18 months, everyone loses about the same percentage of their excess body weight....if they stay on track and don't hit that slippery slope of bad habits.

I had surgery in TJ with Dr. Ismael Vazquez-Bailon. Him and his staff are great. I have never had better medical care. He called me several times after surgery to make sure I was doing well and has always been available by text.

If you google halo hair extensions, you can see lots of examples, but basically it is extensions that you slip over your hair, that are on an invisible band (looks similar to fishing line ) and is hidden by your natural hair.

desertdivalv reacted to Xerox in 5 week post op (starting BMI 30) How im doing.
So after my first week post op I stopped showing weight loss on the scale until the last couple of days. I can tell I have lost fat, but for whatever reason I wasnt seeing the scale budge, I know its impossible to eat the amounts and kinds of foods I am eating without losing body fat, so I havent let it get me down, just be awear if you are a low BMI'er that you might appear to stall out very soon after surgery!

    Healing
I have healed up very well, I can already almost consume 4 ounces of mixed meat, veg and legumes. I havent had any food issues, no nausea or vomiting.
Bare in mind I have gone in to this at a low BMI and I am a non-drinker, non-smoker and relitively young (26).

My diet is pretty good, at first it was difficult to get much more than Protein in to my diet, but now I incorporate much more veg and legumes in to my diet, I also measure out one ounce of mixed nuts a day for between meals, which helps me to boost my calories by 200 quite effortlessly.
I eat a whole foods diet, with no starchy carbs and I am sticking to nutrient rich foods.

One of my stitches got infected, a tight knot was eating away at my skin and created a hole open from both ends. I syringed it with isopropyl followed soap Water and it healed right up.

A typical day of eating for me

Breakfast: Scrambled egg with leek, mushroom, tomatoes, spring onion, mixed spinach / greens and pressed cod roe (fish eggs), I find it hard to only make one portion so usually split it and keep another portion in the fridge.

Lunch: Sometimes I will have the second portion of eggs cold, or I will make a small salad with turkey, smoked salmon, legumes or cod roe.

Dinner: Turkey stirfry. I throw in whatever veg I have going, broccoli, colliflower, peas (in pod) spinach and mixed greens, squash, carrot, onions, leek etc. taking care not to overcook.

I cook enough for my brother who also wants to lose weight, we both really enjoy the new diet, Its much more varied than the bland boring diet I was on before surgery.

Between meals I will snack on my 1oz serving of nuts which I prep in the morning.

Other Snacks that go down well for me are cockles, they are very low in calories and high in protein, but right now I am trying to squeeze in more healthy calories so I am more inclined to incorporate them in to a meal than have them as a snack.

In the evenings I will enjoy a small cup of Decaf coffee, I used to be addicted to coffee, decaf has really helped me curb this, very pleased!

    Habits

To make life easy I freeze a lot of small portions of veg / leafy greens and meats. Some vegs I wont freeze because they taste odd from frozen, like broccoli or carrots, which do last pretty well in the fridge or cupboard. Frozen leafy greens are great for throwing in with all kinds of meals so long as you are happy to have them soft. I keep some in the fridge raw, but the rest I freeze and you can easly grab clumps of frozen greens and sprinkle them in with your cooking.

I measure my portions in to small bowls at about 4 oz per portion, what I dont eat goes to the dog, I do now recognise when enough is enough, it took a few weeks, but now I can stop before I get full.

Lastly, I am still making bone broths, their just so packed full of nutrients that I think its worth incorporating in to my diet for life. I can make small cubes of broth to throw in with meals I pan fry to use less oil. I freeze my families left over chicken/ tuckey bones until I have enough to make a Bone Broth with throw in any left over carrots or onion thats soon to go bad and then freeze the stock in bags of 200g or in ice cube trays.

    What I need to do

Its great for me to say all this, but if I slip back in to old habits it will all be for naught, I know my issue with food is largely lazyness, but by getting in the habit of making the right foods easily accessible I think I can overcome this problem, I have lost weight and kept it off for good in the past by changing habits, and I hope to do this again.
I am about to start a new business which will change my life forever, so very exciting times, perfect for breaking old habits and developing new ones!

    One last thing

Sorry if I come across quite tactless and rude to some people, I have aspergers syndrome so my social skills are awful,

desertdivalv reacted to orionburn in Able to eat more than I should
This is a myth. The "reset" is to get you back on track with a proper diet. It isn't going to magically make your sleeve smaller. The stretchy part of your stomach is what gets removed. Your new stomach IS supposed to stretch out to an extent over time and you should be able to eat more. You also need to be more specific. What constitues a meal for you? What are you eating? Have you introduced slider foods back into your diet? Is the issue of eating too large of a portion or being able to eat another "meal" 1-2 hours after your last meal? There are key differences here.

I wish I could recall the member that originally posted this, but they put up a picture similar to this. So many people were saying it's impossible to eat all of that being a year out. Actually, it isn't as hard as you think. If you start on the potatoes first I could get all of those down and my chicken and some of the veggies. Now flip that around. If I start on the chicken first I'd likely get some of the veggies or potatoes, but that's it. Why? Because I started with the denser Protein first.

Think of it like this - you're trying to fill a hole with some freshly made cement and some hunks of rock to at as a filler. You can do it two different ways. One way is to pour the cement in first and then throw some chunks of rock into it. The other way is to put all the chunks in first and then pour in the cement. The difference? You'll likely get more of each in by starting with the cement first because it's going to fill all those little voids up. If you started with the rocks the cement may not be able to reach all those little spots or ever reach the bottom. This is a broad overview but do you understand the relationship?

It's important to get a good understanding of slider foods and how they work. It isn't to paint the picture that all slider foods are bad for you. I consider yogurt to be a slider food because it's a liquid at room temperature. It's going to break down and go through your system much faster than 4 oz of chicken.

I am right there with you. I also had my surgery on Friday morning. I will be going home tomorrow & cant wait to sleep in my own bed. Pain has been minimal, controlled with Tylenol. I have been able to get my fluids in - broth, popsicles, Water, Gatorade, diluted juice, etc... I can start adding in Protein Shakes, yogurt and milk starting Tuesday, hopefully that will help with lack of energy. I will be going back to work on the 27th.
Hoping everyone else is healing well, and good luck to upcoming surgeries!!

desertdivalv reacted to Alex Brecher in Cave into the Craving Responsibly with These Swaps
Your high-protein weight loss surgery diet might not leave much room for extras, so what happens when cravings strike? Some patients do better by ignoring the craving, while others are best off giving into it with a single bite of what they crave. A good solution for many patients is to find a substitute that works with your diet. Here are a few examples of common cravings and a few low-calorie swaps.

    Chocolate
A small square of dark chocolate may be good for your heart, but the 50 grams of sugar and 20 grams of fat in a 400-calorie slice of frosted chocolate cake far outweigh any heart-healthy benefits in dark chocolate. A serving of Double Chocolate Protein Cake with 120 calories and less than 6 grams of sugar and 5 grams of fat can satisfy the craving while also providing 12 grams of protein. Or, you could try a Chocolate Dream Bar with 10 grams protein and 160 calories. Imagine pulling that out after a workout and showing your friends how you lose weight!
    Mac and Cheese
Ahh…nothing like plopping down in front of your TV with a bowl of mac and cheese after a tough day, and then feeling oh so bad about the carb coma you just put yourself in. Keep the mac and cheese, and skip the coma, with a smart swap. Opt for cooked cauliflower chunks, Shirataki noodles, or Protein Fusilli instead of regular macaroni, and a sauce with non-fat cream cheese and low-fat cheddar instead of full-fat cheeses.
    Mashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes and gravy are the ultimate comfort food and the opposite of the weight loss surgery diet ideal. Put another way, they’re a load of carbs, fat, and calories, and devoid of protein. Instead, make pureed cauliflower with almond milk, parmesan cheese, nutmeg, and pepper, or try pureed turnip or carrot. Turn it into an entire meal by topping your potatoes with Protein Gravy, which adds 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of Fiber for only 65 calories.
    Chips…
A little crunch can be quite the welcome afternoon companion, but oftentimes, your crunch indulgence sticks on your hips instead of leaving at the end of the afternoon. A few handfuls of potato or tortilla chips can cost you 500 calories before even talking about the fat and calories from a creamy dip. If all you are looking for is some mindless munching, try celery (if you can handle the strings), cucumber sticks, bell pepper strips, or snow peas. An entire cup has less than 50 calories, and it can fill up your pouch or sleeve pretty fast. Or, if what you really want is the entire chip experience, go for Protein Chips in flavors such as ranch, salt and vinegar, BBQ, and more.
    …And Dip
The ranch, French onion, or spinach and artichoke dip you love may be giving you more than a meals’ worth of calories, without the protein you need to keep full. Keep the calories down with salsa, or get yourself some nutrients by making a dip with a base of non-fat sour cream, cream cheese, or Greek yogurt.
    Chinese Takeout
It was so easy and delicious to order fried rice, chow mein, or sweet and sour chicken, but was it really worth a thousand calories? Make your own Asian inspired dishes with ingredients such as Protein Fettuccine instead of chow mein noodles, low-carb Asian flavor sauce, and riced cauliflower, along with lean Proteins such as shrimp and chicken, and plenty of veggies. When you are stuck for time or want a ready-made meal, the veggies, rice, and chicken in Spicy Chicken Oriental with 230 calories and13 grams of protein can be on your plate in less time than delivery.
    Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
It is classic but so far-fetched on a high-protein bariatric diet…until now. Get your grill on by toasting low-fat cheese on Protein Bread with 2 grams net carbs per slice. Pair your open-faced grilled cheese sandwich with Protein Tomato Soup, and you could easily get more than 20 grams of protein in a filling meal with under 200 calories.
    Dessert
No explanation is necessary. Fruity, chocolatey, nutty, or caramel-y; crunchy, chewy, or spoon-y, dessert tastes good. Keep the good without the guilt or dumping syndrome with any number of high-protein choices. Stash Protein Bars, Protein Pudding, and Protein Cookies in your favorite hiding spots so you can grab a low-sugar treat whenever you need a lift. Whether you are craving lemon, cranberry, coconut, peanut, toffee, or s’mores, there is a choice for you.
Cravings can hit hard, but that’s okay! With a little thought, you can make smart choices to satisfy your craving without missing a beat in your weight loss.

2 wks post-op gastric sleeve & hiatal hernia repair (surgery: 05/24/17). TY for all your posts. How do you get the weightloss ticker, I want that! Lost almost 18 lbs. but who's counting! No need for any diabetic insulin & meds, high cholesterol or high blood pressure Rx's since surgery: Yay! Introduced the bariatric chewable Multi Vitamins & calcium citrate w/D, yesterday. Have been dealing w introducing soft foods, starting w a scrambled egg & next up choc pudding. Problem: have had diarrhea off/on since just after the first week...not happy about it. Will call my Dr's nurse on Mon to see what I should do, but just took an OTC anti-diarrheal tiny pill to help. Had my gallbladder removed in 10/2012 & had this issue all the way up to surgery. Maybe I need a bariatric probiotic. Will check into that after calling the nurse. I have a Giant Schnauzer 15 yo/95 lbs) & a Cane Corso Italian Mastiff puppy (1yo/130 lbs), so been walking both multiple times daily since surgery. Will begin treadmill & recumbent bike tomorrow & I also teach H20 aerobics M-F, which begins tomorrow as well. My Drs' offices are gung ho on me giving them flyers to get patients moving: I only charge $1 per class & specialize w people who have disabilities/weight issues. If you live in Las Vegas, NV, come forth & exercise! TY.

Just had my preop appt. with my surgeon. It went well. He is giving me a drug called Amend. You take one pill three hours before surgery, and it prevents post op nausea. He says he has used it in 700 procedures, and it works well. Insurance may not cover it, but it only costs $30. I thought I should mention this since so many people suffer with this.
