  1. I told my husband and kids (teenagers and early 20s) that I wouldn't be cooking for the next 6 weeks! If I'm not eating it, I'm not cooking it! They are managing just fine, tho I have relented and cooked a few times.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I'm coming up 3 weeks post op and head back to work tomorrow. Fairly easy and unremarkable recovery. Struggling to hit protein goals (150g) some days and very over liquids. Am able to start puree/soft Friday and can't wait. Weighing and measuring weekly only but certainly noticing clothes much looser.
  3. It's today, it's today, it's finally today. I had excited butterflies all day yesterday. I am so ready for this. Second chance starts today 💚

I'm not sure what's wrong with me

It's really hard and frustrating when you know what the problem is and you can't seem to do anything about it. We have all been there. I have been seeing a psychologist since I decided to follow this path as I knew the surgery was only part of the puzzle. Obviously I had an unhealthy relationship with food to get to this point. Your delay is partly because you are scared of what she/he will say. And you know that you are sabotaging yourself. This makes it all the more important to ring...... I'm not going to psychoanalyse you on the basis of one post, but honey, you are the only one who can pick up the phone. Why would you put yourself through this and then not do everything you can to make it work??? I know how it feels to look at foods that were once your lifeline and struggle with thinking "I may never eat you again" but trust me, a good psychologist will work through this with you. If you are not seeing a dietician regularly, may I also suggest you do. Good luck hon, you can do this

    Calories

You should be asking your dietitian this. It depends on so many things and is very individual. Good luck
  6. Lots and lots of little things just kept piling up. Then we got a new surgeon at the hospital where I work and he did a lunch and learn session to introduce himself and educate us about what he does. ( We had not previously had a bariatric surgeon) He spoke for an hour about what he does and how it works and why it works and who should have it. I spent the hour alternating between tears and disbelief. He could have been talking about me! I now tell him it was his audition and I was sold. 4 days til surgery and I can't wait to start the rest of my life

    Protein Shakes

It is amazing what is available in America compared to here in Australia. Your range of choice is so much wider!!!

    What is your Pre-OP Diet?

2 weeks of optifast - 3 shakes, one bar and 4 cups of allowed starch free/calorie low vegies per day. Cravings were bad the first five days and the withdrawal headache was a killer for the first 3. Now tho, I'm day 13 and its fine. Its really interesting how the prep differs dramatically from surgeon to surgeon.

    Pre op diet- getting dizzy

You are still in withdrawal from sugar/caffeine. By Tuesday you will feel much better which isn't much help now! We all go through it and unfortunately there is no real solution. Chromium can help if you want to try something.
  10. I know you will get plenty of support here, but that doesn't stop the negativity there This is going the be the hardest thing I have ever done, and I know my husband doesn't get it, but he does try to support. I agree with previous posts, time for some tough love and putting yourself first. If your family won't give you their unconditional support then just step away for awhile. You have enough to deal with, without explaining/justifying/answering to anyone else.
  11. So appreciate all the feedback from those who have already travelled the path. It is inspiring and comforting to hear all your advice and feedback and I look forward to one day being able to share the same sort of insights. This is a lifelong journey and I can wait to start.
  12. Water, water and more water. By day 3 it gets better. hang in there!
  13. You're looking great though. Hang in there and don't give up!!!!
  14. I guess my situation is a little different. I'm a nurse in a small hospital and there are no secrets. Everyone knows I am having the sleeve done next week. But I have no issues telling my family and friends cos I believe this is the only thing I am now able to do to improve my life and it is absolutely the right thing for me to do. I have had nothing but support (so far) and I am sad that people think they may be judged. No one needs that sort of negativity in their life. Having said that, there is a difference between honesty and privacy...Am I going to post on facebook - No. Will I answer questions honestly - Yes, cos maybe I may just help someone like me one day make the best decision for their health too.
  15. Australia here too. I'm the 20th.
  16. Sometime between 17th and 22nd. Starting my 2 weeks optifast tomorrow. Simultaneously excited and terrified
