Katbad got a reaction from clsumrall in yet another one struggling with the pre op diet
Xolani - just forgive, forget and move on. There are lapses and relapses. Make this a lapse. Tomorrow is a brand new start so go for it.

You have a long time to go and plenty of opportunity to fix this.

    Good luck.

Katbad got a reaction from GreenTealael in Is this a stall or my set point weight?
In the past when I had been banded for 1 year I stalled for quite awhile. I was also textbook perfect on my diet. My answer was to amp up my exercise. I started the couch to 5k learn to run program. Over 10 weeks I progressed from 30 seconds of running to 20 minutes nonstop and then in one more week I was running 45 min nonstop and doing 5km. This chewed through the stall and got me to my goal.

Fast forward 10 years and a slipped band and arthritis, I’ve now regained most. My VGS surgery is this week. I know I’ll have stalls again, without the ability to run. So I’m going to swim instead.

My advice - keep going on your nutrition plan and amp up the fitness.

I have a scale I love: Yunmai Smart Scale
But I really want this one, because it's so pretty: Digital Bathroom Scale
I don't use all the body measurement features all that much and I rarely sync my smart scale up to my phone since I use other apps to track both food and weight. Plus - This is an important lesson to learn - If you are the type of person that likes to take pictures of your scale for social media purposes (or this board), note that the smart scale I posted above is REALLY shiny. And if you're a person that likes to take pictures of your scale while standing on it naked, your nakedness will be reflected in the shiny scale and thus on your social media page. (Not that I have any experience with that or anything)

Katbad got a reaction from Skinnygirl04 in June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
My surgery is 6 days away - June 22. I’m 5 days into pre-op diet and actually doing well. I thought I’d have a headache and be starving but I’m not. I’m having 3 Protein Shakes with some milk for carbs and then some broth for savory. I hate Jello so none of that. I’m still enjoying my coffee too. I’m not tempted at all. Maybe because I know the end is in sight!!

On the day I was discharged from the hospital my Endocrinologist eliminated my four diabetes medications . She said with the weight loss you wont need them. She was right my type 2 diabetes is gone. I hope to continue to keep the weight off and to better my health.

Not doing what's popular just doing what's Right.

Your NUT should have had a long conversation with you about reducing your meds per your primary care doctors orders. You should give them a call.

I am insulin dependent or type 1 how ever you want to look at it. I have been on insulin forever so I will be on insulin for ever. I am allowed to lower my units as I am losing weight before my surgery. I will be on a much lower amount durning 15 day pre-op diet and after. I use this rule of thumb now
6 meals = 200 calories each very low carbs, very low sugar if any.
    Good luck.

I would take the time to make the right decision. If you think the sleeve is right for you then resubmit. You will be happier for it.

Dr Luther is great. My surgery went very well. I had minimal pain after and recovered quick!

I received approval from insurance in 2 days!! Dr. Luther will be my surgeon too. I see him on March 26. I won’t be getting the surgery until June but I’m so happy to be over this phase.

I’m in Woodbury. I finished all of my appts today. They will submit for insurance approval now. I’m going for a band revision to bypass.

I’m going to Meadowbrook. Anyone have experience there? They have been very nice so far.

Plan to have the surgery in June due to work and travel until then. Can’t wait!

Katbad reacted to Chandni in Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass — What and Why did you choose?
I am a candidate for both too and together with the surgeon I decided that I want the bypass. I am diabetic and the bypass can have the side effect that I wouldn't need to take any additional diabetic meds anymore from the day of surgery instead of going down over time. Also with over 200 kilos we believed that the faster weight loss would be more beneficial to me.
If during surgery the doctors notice that they can't do the bypass I'll get the sleeve, so while I prefer the bypass, I won't be angry with the sleeve at all.

I also had the option and am getting the sleeve. I do not have GERD and only occasionally have heart burn. I didn't want to have to deal with dumping syndrome and also was concerned about malabsorption. As others have said, get all the info you can and make the decision that's best for you and your future health. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Got a Duodenal Switch on 12/27/17. I have diabetes and it was the best option for my metabolic issues.

Katbad reacted to Myaiku_Kuraitani in Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass — What and Why did you choose?
I chose Gastric Bypass. I chose it because my surgeon said that at my BMI at the time, I was good candidate and I took it as her recommending it and well, hey... Doctor knows best. Another reason why is because I already had my heart set on it and because I knew this one would help me control my portions better. (Also one of the pros).

Another reason is I wanted bang for my buck and it's the gold standard. It also had more long term studies done... And just more studies done in general.

    Pros:

    1. Portion Control
    2. Faster Weight loss

    3. For me, I get full off Water or even my own Vitamins lol

    4. Like with any of these procedures, it comes with great health, happiness and longevity.

    5. The last pro or positive can be anything you want it to be. 🙂

    Cons:

    1. Some people don't like the whole malabsorption thing.

    2. Dumping.

    3. Nausea (But that happens with the sleeve, too).

Buuuut.... Don't let these cons scare you away from choosing Gastric Bypass. It didn't stop me and it turned out for the better.

Everyone is different and have different comfort zones. Some people don't want to choose something so drastic and that's okay. 🙂

You have to choose what's best for you because only you know yourself the best.
