KH1958 got a reaction from MarissaLaw1986 in 4 weeks post op
I just hit my four weeks post op today. I am down 20 lbs from surgery date, 30 total. Mine seemed to stall last week as well, but this week seems to be picking back up and since I am now in the Chew Stage of food, it might pick up even more, hopefully. I am taking all of my Vitamins and Calcium, as well as extra B12 but I just feel so tired. Not sleepy, just tired and I am not used to that at all, I hope this too shall pass. Now the fun part of trying new foods I suppose...

Mine lasts about a week and then it passes. It's like the previous person said, it's just your body adjusting to the changes.

Wow that’s great info to have in my back pocket! Thank you. Yes the 3-4 wk stall is for real I’m finding out too, but I didn’t know about it before surgery. Glad to know it can happen again soon. Wow your 17 lb wt loss in 2 wks is incredible!

I'm 7 weeks out today. Before surgery I heard about the inevitable 3-4 week stall. And I had it. In the 5th and 6th weeks alone it caught up and I lost 17 lbs in those 2 weeks. I was a bit frustrated but try to keep in mind that many people hit that stall and it's just your body trying to figure things out. Keep following the rules and your body will fall in line.

A long time poster on here used to say something I have adopted. She says she considers this weight MAINTENANCE surgery and I agree.

I've lost 50-100 pounds more times than I can count. This is the first time I have EVER kept it off. 135 lbs for three years now.

YOU are the only one that can answer that ?. I would for sure take a reality check about my past endeavors. I also had been on almost every diet trend that came along. But...I couldn't get to maintenance. Once I got down to 135#'s which I had lost only due to me being sicker than a dog!! But it didn't take me long to regain it all plus some extra pounds. I am 4 years out and I can say with everything within me that I AM SO GLAD I did this. Yes, it is hard but it will get better. NOTHING taste or feels as great as reaching your goal weight and being able to maintain your weight. Hang in there and KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!

I am on day four only and my surgery is the 10th.

I am on day 4 of the Pre Op liquid diet. It is tough at times. Your mind starts wondering for certain. I can only have broths, Protein Shakes, sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. I hope I am not so sick of the shakes by the time my surgery comes on October 10th, because I will have a two week liquid diet after the surgery. I do not start pureed foods until week 3 after surgery I believe. It is a challenge to say the least. Has certainly made me rethink wanting to get the surgery!

Everyone is so excited, and don't get me wrong I'm also super excited, but I'm kinda scared ****less at the same time. I keep thinking "Do I really need to do this?" and finding reasons not to and then something happens that affirms my decision like "Yes, you really DO need to do this!" I know I'm not going to back down but the thoughts are just there. Anyone else feel this way or just me?

Good to know, since I am having bypass on October 10th and my third week will also be pureed diet stage. I am sure it is because you finally are chewing something. lol Unless your pre op diet allowed food, mine does not and I am only on day 4 and it is so hard.

If you are constantly getting some type of Protein in, and Fiber as well, you should not experience hunger. I made sure that every 2 hours or so, I was eating or drinking something. I never got hungry. Before cooking meals, I had a Protein Shake. I then would not be hungry when dinner or Breakfast (on weekends) was ready.
I did a 2 week liquid diet even though I only had to do 1 week. I lost 25 pounds during this time, because I was determined to make it work. My advice would be to get your mind right. This is for you, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You've just got to look for it. We've tried and failed at every diet we've ever tried our entire lives. This tool is worth the trouble and hardships, because it tips the balance in our favor.
It may sound crazy, but self-talk works wonders. Everyday, wake up and look into the mirror. Tell yourself that you are beautiful...That you will work hard to achieve your goals that day.....That you are worth happiness.....That you are going to SUCCEED!
It will happen for you. Good luck on your journey!!

    Whoa...
Ok both of you's is good people. No one has stepped on anyone's toes.... at least not on purpose.
Bary.. it isn't split into genders, there just happens to be many more vocal women than men. You posted just fine.
Fluffy, you have gotten poor feedback in the past, so you're a bit defensive right now.. but you were trying to make a valid point, and I'm happy you did.
When we head to Mexico we miss out on all the months of nutritional counseling, so we do have to educate ourselves.
Bary was just trying to be funny about the beer/year thing. Sometimes nuances can be lost through text.
BUT, in case beer IS more than just the occasional indulgence, this is an area that SHOULD be addressed prior to surgery.

I didn't thing this site was segregated and split into genders I am new on here, I can't even see a place to look for the men's forum, I am a little embarrassed I think all my questions I've asked are in the woman's forum, I will keep my questions to myself till I find the right forum... At any rate, I am very sorry to have offended you.. I sure didn't intend to strike a nerve or offend anyone with what was intended to be very innocent question.. I merely asked a question that was on my mind. I am not and I don't think any of us are taking this lightly in the slightest, We are all putting our lives in the hands of someone else. I was only looking for support and guidance, just wanted someone to say "don't eat fatty beef " or " I had to give up mustard because it upset my stomach.

I know, it seems so extreme. The only thing I can think of is maybe it is because we have to do the same thing for two weeks after the surgery? I don't know. I know I did Quick Weight Loss one time, had a special diet for three days of two eggs, veggies and chicken and an orange and in three days I lost 11 lbs, some people lost 16 or more. I doubt I will lose 11 lbs or so from these two weeks of no eating, but I am sure they have their reasons and as much as I am having to pay, I will follow the directions as I don't want to fail! lol

Rouchang, I understand! My surgery was 3.5 year ago, I lost 80 and I'm back up 26. Tomorrow morning, I'm starting a 10-day "re-set" that I found online. Maybe we can encourage each other?

Honestly it's not that life changing. For the first year you'll lose a lot of weight and have to eat a special diet then your weight will level off and you'll have to work to maintain your weight loss. You will be able to eat most if not all the crappy food that made u fat in the first place after 2 years. And u can gain it all back if you resort to your old eating habits. The first year is the most change but in the course of a life it's not much time. It's an opportunity to heal yourself from obesity and create an improved healthy lifestyle. It is not a curse but an opportunity to people who have had a hard time losing weight.
And taking some Vitamins for rest of life is not really a big deal! I take 4 vitamins a day. 2 Breakfast 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner.

That is an excellent reason to have the surgery. At your stage I would recommend three things.
    1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success.
    2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery.
    3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.

I felt like that the week before my surgery. I was a bundle of nerves and anxiety. I had to look back at all I had to do to get to the surgery stage and that opened my eyes. I also had to evaluate my life for the last ten years. I tried so many times to lose weight on my own and it never lasted. I'd get sick of the diet and gain more weight. I finally realized I really needed this WLS tool to get me healthy again. I wanted to be around to see my daughter graduate from college, get married, and have grad babies! I always put everyone before myself and now I had to put me first and be a bit selfish. I had RNY 6/21/17 and I wouldn't change a thing. I am now the lightest I've been in over 8 years. That sense of accomplishment is awesome. My back and knees no longer hurt and I have energy to spare.
This is a big decision to make and you've done that already. You chose to change yourself and get healthy. You can do this! Keep your chin up! Feel free to PM me if I can help you I will. Good luck in your decision. Keep us posted!
