    Non-bariatric comments - vent

My neighbor who is like a stick insect told me she lost 20kg using mind over matter and it's the same reason her boob's are perky because that's how she's told them to be! She wanted me to try it. I said first off your boob's are perky because you are 30 and have no kids second if I could have willed away 200+ lbs I would have done by now! The other ones who annoy me are the ones who say..well done on the weight-loss oh wait you had surgery didn't you? People who think having half your stomach removed or your intestinal tract rearranged is the easy way should try it! I mentally slap people who say it lol [emoji23] Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Medicine

I take an antidepressant and I haven't noticed any changes. At one point we increased it but just for a week or two. The other meds. Diabetes medication I had to stop the day before surgery and never went back on it. High blood pressure meds have been reduced twice due to weight-loss so they must have still been working. I take slow release pain meds and I'm not sure that they are doing the job so I'm going to look at that next time I see the Dr. I take all of mine with water before I eat anything seems to work except when I had antibiotics they had to be with food. 4. I had a bypass so some things might be different but in the beginning they are very similar. I came home 12lbs heavier than when I went in. I was full of fluid. I had no trouble drinking but I found the little cups a bit too much like a shot lol while in hospital I had no problem going to the toilet but when I got home no movement for 7 days. I started to feel swollen and nauseous so they did a CT and found I was impacted further in and gave me an enema. It's happened a few times because I had some other surgeries 7 weeks out and the bowel just shuts down. To keep it moving if you find you are prone to constipation you need to get your fluids in and a stool softener like lactulose syrup. I now take a powdered one I drink twice a day. Some people try pear or prune juice or milk of magnesia to wake it up. I was given Pariet for reflux for 3 months so I've just stopped it. I had a bit of depression in the beginning and the surgeon told me its quite common and quite normal. You have been through a big surgery even though laproscopic surgery makes it seem less severe it is a big shock to the system. Hang in there trust the process and don't give up. I was about your weight and I have lost 112lbs in 16 weeks. Seemed impossible after gaining 12lbs in hospital and being totally blocked up Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Advice on what to expect

The first week out I started feeling sick after not going for 7 days. They took me in and gave me an enema because it was impacted. Going forward I've had Movicol not sure if it's called that where you are. Ingredient is macrogol it's a powder you mix and drink. Having 3 extra surgeries shut it down again due to anaesthetic and pain meds. I had another enema last week and just for a while have to take double movicol. My Dr added in a softener called Actilax because a lot of times after surgery that what you need more than a laxative. The advice I was given was to go in stages prune juice fibre movicol glycerine suppositories over the counter enema etc A lot of people use milk of magnesia first off. If it happens they will find something that works. I just needed the enema twice due to it being sleepy. Good luck with your journey take care [emoji3] Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

Rapid Wt. Loss at Week 5, Metabolism changes!

Thank you for your lovely words! I am feeling so much better now that the surgeries are over. I have been really excited about the weight-loss. The last time I was this weight I was 19. Good luck on your journey. I'll watch your progress too we can encourage each other. Take care Jennifer and thanks again [emoji179] Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Alcohol

I used to drink a lot once but now I don't drink at all. Everybody knows I don't drink so I get to do all the fun things like be the designated driver. Sit at a party with a group of drunk people and pretend I know what they are rambling on about! However I am also the one with the clear head and the good memory so I get to tell everyone what they did and who they did it with. I can get at least a week out of that stuff.. Do you know you did.... [emoji23] Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. It's probably not something I would try but there are a lot of people who still have nausea and vomiting months out and all tests are saying there is nothing wrong. If you suffered that in the beginning once given the medical clearance it might be something worthwhile to do once or twice. Saves clogging the ER unnecessarily. Last time I went to the ER in a private hospital even with insurance cost me $1000 Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I agree small goals are the best goals. I know I said I want to be 220 by Christmas but that's just what I would like! I'm not going to be disappointed if I don't as long as I'm still losing. I think it's important to celebrate small milestones especially when you are having a stall or feeling a bit low Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Advice on what to expect

I'm 57 had the RNY in Aug 10th 17. So far I have lost 110lbs. I have a fair bit of saggy skin especially on my bat wings and legs. I have had a few bumps in the road like kidney stones requiring further surgeries. I feel that at the moment my face looks older but I've just had 3 surgeries so Could be that. The one thing I would stress is make sure that you drink all you water and the first sign of any toilet issues treat it straight away. I have had chronic constipation and never had it before. Keep up the vitamins. I just added liquid hair nails and skin tonic because I noticed a bit of hair coming out in the shower. Stopped again so might have been a false alarm lol good luck with the journey. Overall it's been great and I would do it all again. Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

RNY Gastric Bypass: ONE YEAR POST-OP

Hi Andre first off let me say wow you have been through a lot. My story has some similarities. My HW 407 SW 367 CW 257. I came out of hospital 12lbs heavier than going in. After a week I started feeling very nauseous and had pain in my stomach. CT showed nothing wrong but I was fully impacted and had to have an enema. After that fluid subsided and weight came off. Then week 7 I was rushed to hospital and had sepsis urosepsis and kidney stones! I had emergency surgery to put stents in. Over the next four weeks I had 3 more surgeries. Again with all the fluid the weight stalled. All the anaesthetics and pain meds shut the bowel down and I ended up back in there last week having another scan and full enema. For the constipation I have to take Movicol double strength twice a day as long as I have painkillers. I'd like to come off them but I have chronic osteoarthritis [emoji20] I also had H. pylori Pre-surgery and had it treated. While in there he saw that I had a hiatus hernia and repaired that too. I had my RNY on Aug 10th 17 and so far lost 110lbs so I'm happy with that and recovering each day. I wish you well with their rest of your weight-loss journey x Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Two days post op

I don't have much wisdom to offer sorry. Everyone is different but I would speak to the surgeon about it anyway. Could turn out to be something fairly simple. The one trick I do know is that if you have a lot of gas and in the beginning you do, lie on your left side with your legs pulled up almost foetal position. It helps the gas to move. Good luck! Rapid Wt. Loss at Week 5, Metabolism changes!

I came out of hospital 12lbs heavier than when I went it! Once my body shifted all the fluid it started shedding weight. Had a stall at about 3 weeks then week 7 I was rushed to hospital with sepsis and kidney stones. Over the next 4 weeks I had 3 kidney surgeries with pain killers. That meant very little weight-loss lots of fluid and terrible constipation eventually requiring a full enema. Now that's all sorted I've started losing again. RNY Aug 10th 17. Pre-surgery I was 367lbs I don't have the weekly breakdown. CW 257lbs so a loss of 110lbs in 15 weeks. Even with the bumps in the road I'm really happy. Stop losing weight

Hi how is it all coming along now? Have you started losing again? I hear what you are saying about IV fluids I have been back in hospital a few times and came out heavier each time! Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Congratulations! It's great to hit goals along the way and celebrate them. I didn't have any at the start because I really didn't know what to expect but I do now! I had the RNY bypass on Aug 10 and I have lost 108lbs my goal is to be at or under 100kgs by Christmas [emoji319] good luck on your journey well done.. Pain Relievers

I think it depends on what you can swallow. I found round tablets a bit big and kind or dry but the long ones or caps were fine. If you start out on opioids like oxycodone or codeine just be mindful of constipation even if they didn't do it to you Pre surgery they might now. I was also told to stay away from all NSAIDs like nurofen voltarin celebrex etc as they can cause ulcers. Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I had the RNY bypass (Aug 10 2017) so it may be different. I take BN Multi chewable and BN Cal + D chewable twice per day. Both are bariatric vitamins and I have Vit B injections which at the moment are monthly but that will change. When it says chewable it makes it sound like they are soft and chewy but they aren't. They are hard and you crunch them up. I thought there would be more but these two seem to have everything in them that is needed. I was taking Q10 but had to stop for the surgery and had 3 more surgeries so I just stayed off them. Just this week I added myself a hair nails and skin tonic and biotin because I noticed a bit more hair than usual coming out but it's stopped so might have been a false alarm lol Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I enjoy reading this thread. I haven't added to it yet but I will when I have some time. I need to work out the stats of the food. I had the RNY gastric bypass on August 10th this year. So far in the 12 weeks I have lost around 100lbs I will be seeing the dietitian tomorrow to review the plan then I will post the menu. I got a bit slack at writing it all down because in the three months I have had five surgical procedures and each time with anaesthetics and pain meds the weight stalls. I went back to work yesterday so I need to start writing it down again. Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    My story... bare with me!

I only found that out after I got the kidney stones. The kidney specialist told me. I already knew gall stones or kidney stones happen especially if you have had them before which I had. They emphasized the importance of drinking all your water to keep the kidneys flushed because surgery changes things. The first few days we are not drinking much but once you can try to drink as much as you can. These things don't happen to everyone but the water and protein rules are worth sticking to. Good luck with your journey. Lots of people here to ask questions x Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. I'm not sure where you are but I'm in Australia and there is a protein bar called Aussie Bodies and it's whipped inside like a three musketeers used to be. They are only small but soft. I think the bariatric pal shop sells some kinds too or protein muffins or flapjacks. I am 3 months out and I can eat most things. No dry meats or nuts so most bars are out for me too. I bought a box and ate them but I don't know if I would do it again because I don't want to rely on sweet snacks again. Usually I have a bottle of protein water with me.
