I’m am now 9 days post op and had my first post op visit this morning to get my drain out and just do a general follow up. The nurse gave me a weird look when I stepped on the scale and said “holy s%#*!” lol. I was 299 day of surgery and today when I stepped on the scale I was 279. I was absolutely amazed to see that kind of loss in 9 days. I know this pace will slow down greatly but that was a huge psychological boost, and makes the 4 more days I have to wait to go to stage 2 a little more bearable. It is also a huge boost to not have that stupid drain hanging off of me anymore, though it did not feel good having it removed.

Just got my surgery date yesterday of 10/24. They only have me on a pre op diet for the day before surgery and I can have any liquid like slim fast or Protein Shakes or Jamba juice and then midnight before surgery Clear Liquids. I asked why did I find that many people were doing a two week preop clear liquid diet and they said they just never made that a practice at my facility.... I’m shocked. I was mentally preparing myself too.

Hello! I just got a call yesterday that I've already been approved by insurance. I didn't even know my patient advocate submitted because I'm not done with my required appointments. She said she had what she needed for insurance requirements but the last appointment I'm waiting for is the surgeons requirement. I go to the pulmonologist on 9/26/17. She said once I get cleared from them she will set a surgery date! OMG! I was not expecting to be approved already by my ins. I thought it was going to be a fight. I'm so grateful and looking forward to living healthier. I'm so ready for this lifestyle change. I just had to share my news because I'm so happy right now. So now just waiting for the 26th to roll around. I hope I get cleared and have surgery mid October. Thx for reading😁

Killian I second what you said 100%. Only my husband knows. Like you, I did not want to be a topic of discussion at all times. I also work with some very opinionated women. You should have seen them when I drank an Optifast shake in their presence during my preop! All hell broke loose because they only saw me drinking 1 shake. I ended up having my shakes in my office for the duration I was required to. I can only imagine how much I would have been bombarded with "expert" advice had I shared with them I was getting sleeved. I might have had to move countries to get away from them.

I kind of took the middle road and it has worked ok for me.
I told my mom, because she is smart and wise. But I was hesitant to tell her, because she has been on my case about my weight since I was a teenager. I figured she would get on my case again for having surgery and not handling the situation myself, "You're stronger than that." But despite this, I told her because I wanted her honest feedback and much to my surprise, delight and immense relief, she was 100% in support of my decision. Of course, my stepfather knows too, but that's not a problem because he's always been awesome.
Likewise, I told my sister because she had recently confided in me something that she thought I would get on her case about, but I didn't and I supported her decision instead. She was also pleased and supportive.
Some of the co-workers know because I was out for two weeks on leave and they noticed. The ones who know have all been very supportive, understanding and encouraging... It's nice.
My boyfriend's family knows because he let it slip to his mom who was worried about me and she told everyone else. That gets weird sometimes, but they like to talk about their own pet ailments and now they have added me into that conversation. I find it unexpectedly comforting.
I have not told my father, stepmom or any of my step-siblings. I would never hear the end of it and I just don't want to deal with the fallout from that, it would never end.
So what I'm trying to say is that some people know and others don't. I don't tell people about my surgery, but I don't try to hide it or keep it a secret either. I refuse to feel ashamed about it and I don't really care what most other people think. Your support group is all that matters! And just remember, it's ok to open up to people once in a while, a few of them might surprise you.
Wow, sorry for the super-long post! eep.

Hi all, I'd like to wish all of you who've recently had the surgery congrats to a new way of healthy living and those thinking about it, go for it. The only regret 7 yrs later, I wish I would have done it sooner.
I was at 210 when I finally said enough because I had spent hundreds of dollars on every weight loss program you can imagine. I knew I could lose the weight but it was keeping it off, my weight was up down a yo-yo way of life over years. I wasn't one who struggled with weight my whole life, my problems began after I had children. My children were pretty much grown when I realized I was doing everything for everyone else but me! So I researched various procedures which at the time were only lap Band or by-pass. I also knew I couldn't afford the cost for a procedure here in the US so I started researching Canada, Mexico, and Europe. I found Mexico to be the most cost effective and if something happened it would be a quick drive back into the states. So yes I had my procedure done in Mexico and I did qualify because the Dr.'s their believe in preventative health care, they don't want you to be 100+ lbs over weight with an array of health problems. Their philosophy is get ahead of it before you weigh 300 to 400 lbs which was the path I was headed. Even if you are in that weight range they do perform the procedure with lots of pre and post care treatment programs.
When I got there I had a consultation with the Dr. to go over my lab test, ex rays, etc. He thought I was a good candidate for the sleeve rather then the lap band I had registered for. I liked it because I wouldn't have to hassle with fills or potentially needing to move the port. When I had my procedure I was 198 and 18 months later I was 128. I'm 5'4" and today I weigh 135. I typically teeter between 135 to 145 but when I hit that 10+ ceiling I go back to the liquid diet/soft food
My experience has been overall positive and only regret I hadn't done it sooner.
My sister and daughter both later had the procedure living healthy life styles and couldn't be happier. Most recent my friend had it done and I can't wait to support her through her journey.
I think the first year is your biggest adjustment with not just losing the weight but learning to adapt to your new life style.
Good luck all, I hope my story helps since I had the procedure done 7 years ago, most stories I read people are either getting ready or recently had the procedure.
