  1. I found that’s very common with a lot of insurances, some have 3 month, some 6 and others 9! I have a private insurance and they required a 6 month nutrition class which I found out pretty much educated me on what to expect post op, how and when to take my vitamins, what not to do and how to be successful. They also had me do a swallow test, upper endoscopy, labs, psych eval, 1 class with a dietitian and record everything I ate for 4 of the six months. Some have also had to do a sleep test but they didn’t require one from me. I thought it was going to take forever but it goes by faster then you think. After I jumped through ALL the hoops my insurance approved and covered 100% and I had surgery the next week! I’m just 2 week’s post op! Looking back all the tests and info I had gotten really was good in helping me now and in making sure I was safe. You can do it!! Wishing you the best.
  2. Mine was only 1 day before surgery I could have protein shakes and clear liquids then only clear liquids after midnight the night before surgery. I could drink the clear liquids up until I arrived at the hospital.
  3. So nervous and excited! Anyone else going in today? Wishing everyone a safe surgery!

    On my way to hospital!

Wow. That’s actually a form of abuse and neglect to not manage your patients pain. It makes you wonder why people choose to work in a field where you’re miserable and make others miserable too. That sounds horrible!

    On my way to hospital!

Wow I had that too! I thought it was because I drank too much too fast but then it started happening when I wasn’t drinking. Maybe it’s spasms? Or just gas moving around? Anyway it’s slowly getting less frequent and less intense. This is day 7 for me.
  6. My sleeve was 10/24 and I’ve been struggling with the gas pain and nausea ever since. I also have times of painful swallowing and they gave my pills for pain relief which I have to take at least 15-30 min apart because I’m so swollen internally still they take a while to get down. I’m determined to keep fluid up and I try to walk even just around the house as much as I can. Not everyone has it easy but your definitely not alone in the fact that you’re having a rough recovery. We just keep moving forward one day at a time and soon these hard days will be just memories. Better quality lives are just ahead! Hang in there.

    On my way to hospital!

My fluids are ok but I’m getting constant waves of excruciating pain. I thought it was gas but it hurts for only a few seconds then goes. Mostly after I drink something. Starting to worry a little.

    On my way to hospital!

Yes, they gave me a survey that I filled out. And I let my current nurse know that it wasn’t a reflection of her care just in case because the one I have now and the one before we’re way better

    On my way to hospital!

Thanks for the well wishes. Really made me feel good. Surgery went well but unfortunately my nurse didn’t manage my pain, they had a mix up with my post-op room which delayed me getting there for 3 hours! I laid in horrific pain and not allowed to walk. When I finally got to my room and asked to walk, the CNA said she needed my vitals....ok I get it... so after vitals I asked again if I can walk and she states, “after we shift change!?” I literally had no words I got up and slowly took everything off and walked down the hall sobbing pulling my IV pole. My husband found me in the hall and was upset that I had arrived 20 min ago and even though he was told that he’d get to see me as soon as I arrived, no one went to get him. After I laid back down my pain got so bad I asked for pain meds. My nurse took a hour to get it which by that time I was nearly screaming in pain and she came to tell me that I was alarming my neighbors!!! I politely said through my tears, “this is very humiliating for me, do you think I can help yelling in pain? Why is no one helping me?” I don’t mean to scare anyone but this was my experience. I felt it wasn’t worth it and was upset. When I got a new nurse last night he was very attentive and kept my pain well managed. I’m feeling much better this morning.
  14. I’m waiting to be called back also!!! Best wishes. You’re going to do awesome. Keep us posted!

    What is your Pre-OP Diet?

I was wondering the same thing! I asked my surgeon specifically if a clear protein drink was ok and she said it was fine to have. I also asked about Bone broth because I found some that had 9 grams of protein per cup of broth! She ok’d both. Hope that helps
  17. Thanks for taking the time to share! My date is 10/24. So excited and nervous. Haven’t heard of that tip before and I appreciate all the info I’m getting from everyone here. Thx!

    Pre op diet- getting dizzy

Just got my surgery date yesterday of 10/24. They only have me on a pre op diet for the day before surgery and I can have any liquid like slim fast or protein shakes or Jamba Juice and then midnight before surgery clear liquids. I asked why did I find that many people were doing a two week preop clear liquid diet and they said they just never made that a practice at my facility.... I’m shocked. I was mentally preparing myself too.
  20. Same date. Just got the call and approval today!! 10/24!!!
