Obesity is a disease of malnutrition. Read the book "why we get fat and what to do about it" by Gary Taubes. This isn't a modern problem. The problem in its simplest form is some of us can not process carbs likely others. We eat carbs, our body produces large amount of insulin to process those carbs, the insulin causes us to produce large amount of LPL enzyme, and that causes use to store fat. It because a nasty cycle for us.

1 day... to start after breakfast.... though honestly I think I'll do a modified version of the pre-op diet everyone is doing for a week or so just to get in the mood!

So what's everyone doing now and up to surgery day?
I'm slowly searching through my home for stuff that I need to pack for the hospital.
I've started to teach myself new habits, like eating better and slower. I'm also taking Vitamin D and Iron tablets as per the physician's order.
I've booked afterschool care for my son for the days after surgery. I usually pick him up from school. My husband will instead pick him up from afterschool care after work.
I've also decided I should maybe pick a dress of two sizes down to help motivate me when I get sleeved. [emoji23]

I have been battling asthma for over 40 years. I have taken medication for this condition for over 10 years. I have noticed that after my RNY gastric bypass surgery, my condition improved. At around 3 years post-op, I reduced my medication in half without any ill effects. I am now over 4 years post-op and a week ago I ceased taking this medication completely. So far I have not felt any ill effects. So I was wondering if any others with this condition have experienced similar results. When I did a simple search on the internet, it seems like I might not be the only one.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25934136 reports research that concludes Bariatric surgery improved small airway function, decreased systemic inflammation and number of mast cells in the airways. These effects could explain the improvement of asthma control, quality of life and lung function. Therefore bariatric surgery, in addition to all other positive effects, also improves asthma in subjects with morbid obesity.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20393807 concludes Bariatric surgery decreases the intensity of medication required to control patients' asthma symptoms, although LAGB (laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding) appears to produce less significant effects. [Scale of magnitude: Among 257 asthma patients who participated in a 1-year follow-up survey, 13 of 28 who had initially used oral corticosteroids for symptom control no longer required them, while use of inhaled corticosteroids decreased from 49.8% to 29.6%.]
https://www.aaaai.org/global/latest-research-summaries/Current-JACI-Research/asthma-bariatric-surgery reports This study of 2,261 obese patients demonstrated that bariatric surgery was associated with decreased risks of emergency department visit or hospitalization for asthma exacerbation; this risk reduction was sustained for at least two years after bariatric surgery.
I find it interesting that the effect of bariatric surgery on asthma control is rarely discussed. One of the reasons why I decided to try and quite my medication was because of the extreme expense of this inhaled asthma medication. So at this point I am off all my high blood pressure medication (2 types before surgery), all my diabetes medicine (2 types prior to surgery), and now my prescription asthma medicine. I am off all my prescription medicines.

@MissT_SR I had back surgery in December 2015 and I was suppose to have a second one next Tuesday, but because of the weight loss, the pressure on the sciatica nerve is a lot less, and I don't need it.
Thanks. I'm sure you'll do amazing as well.

Thank you. Honestly, I stayed committed for the most part but I also had a few months where it was harder than before and I didn't follow the plan. I did stray for a bit and gained 3-4 pounds in the process.

I just tried to remember how bad my quality of life was before and it renewed my focus. Being able to keep up or be faster than my friends instead of being blocks behind them is crazy. Being able to shop in stores I never could before? Insane. Being (for the most part) happy with who I am and how I look? I never thought it would happen.

When I want to stray from plan I now make myself go on a walk and remind myself that before I couldn't even sit in a chair without getting out of breath.

I am determined to not let myself get back to that place.

You have to find the things you are getting healthy for and hold onto them.

Remind yourself of what you're working for.

I wanted to be able to participate in life instead of being on the sidelines all the time.

Now I'm very active and I have more friends than time to see them.

It's a surreal feeling and I'm not going to stop working until I reach my goal...then the hard part starts!

    Good luck to you!

Please check with a pharmacist before pulling capsules apart. Not all can be pulled apart without complications such as extended or controlled release pills. This can cause dangerous complications with some meds, such as blood pressure pills (Just one example).
