Yay!! I tried egg whites today. My cholesterol was a lil high my last appt due to all the eggs I eat. This morning I added a lil hot sauce and lemon pepper to the egg whites and they were delicious!

I am making this with minced jalapeno, diced carrots, green bell peper, sweet onion, green onion, cole slaw, 1 diced zucchini. Spiced it up with pepper, Mrs.Dash and sodium free soy sauce. It is something you can add your own ingredients and amounts to.

Thanks berry. I made this group because as an ovo vegetarian and picky eater it is hard for me to get the healthy protein foods. I can eat/deal with very few foods at a time and get sick of it in months. As the only vegetarian in the wls group a t office I didn't have the support or knowledge to succeed in the weight loss journey. If I knew then what I know now it would be different. I just don't want othets to make same wrong choices I did. Vegetarian/vegan/meat eaters....we can all be there supporting eachother.[emoji16]

Frou I feel you. From the surgery I became lactose intolerant and bread upsets stomach so that is a plus there. For Protein I do different kinds of nuts/seeds(careful to not overdue it on them because it's easy), different types of Beans (kidney and black are my fav), vegetables and ofcourse the organic vegan Protein Powder among other things. I go off and drink the WAS pre made Protein Drinks from Walmart at times along with the great value protein bars(0 carbs 0 cholesterol and 10 protein). If you wanna have more contact I'll give you my email or Facebook messanger name. There is alot more that I have to tell you....

I think of this often too....and often think of the long term effects...wls or not, not getting the Fiber and antioxidant nutrition from plants is a recipe for some problems internally down the road...just my take on it and a lot of science behind it.

The thing I worry about is how many WLS patients are on low carb high Protein diets, and are eating tiny amounts of fruits and vegetables, not to mention whole grains. supplements can only provide the elements. but not the fiber and antioxidants of the whole plant. What consequences will this have for their long term health?

Yes I agree. Good cholesterol has gotten a bad rap, just like carbohydrates have gotten a bad rap. We need these both, just the good ones. 😊

The body is a glorious mechanism composed of vast numbers of feedback loops. We actually NEED cholesterol for health and repair. If we do not take in enough cholesterol through diet, our body manufactures it. The catch is, that if the body has to manufacture it, it's almost always comprised of small, dense particles carrying (Apo B=LDL particles). The bad rap cholesterol has received comes mainly from the small ApoB Lipo Protein particles. These are the particles that make up the plaques in our arteries. Surprisingly, when we consume cholesterol, especially saturated fatty acids, these particles consist of large fluffy particles and they actually go through and clean out the small LDL particles in our arteries.
I'm sure I'm goobering this science up. Uffe Ravskov wrote a pretty definitive book on the subject. Also, some few people have familial dyslipidemia that caused cholesterol and triglycerides to go high regardless of diet. And, thyroid dsyfunction can also cause cholesterol and triglycerides to remain high despite diet.

Why not both? Just be sure to leave out the processed foods from the vegan...which will leave you with a Whole Foods plant based diet anyway! 😁

Here's a good list to start. I personally would eliminate the fatty fish and limit the olive oil. But the rest are everything on a good wholesome plant based diet.

I stopped drinking regular milk about a year ago because it upset my stomach. Now I drink unflavored almond milk. cheese I have VERY little of due to it hurting my stomach like milk but I am no longer gonna eat cheese and am looking for a good replacement. As for eggs after wls it is what I lived off of. Lol used to live off of them. Now I don't eat them at all though. Tried egg whites liked them 1 time but hated them after that so no more egg whites either. Oils I don't use at all. But ueah I am sure my high cholesterol is due to my past egg life.
