Are you just walking on the treadmill at the gym? not even 2wks out from surgery and being at the gym sounds concerning to me, but if your doc cleared you then go for it I wasn't allowed to do much more than walk and could only lift up to 10lbs first week or so, then was allowed up to 20lbs. But I won't get full clearance for all activity until 6wks out. Until then, walking and light exercise are ok, moreso to keep your body moving while your insides finish healing up.

Please don't get too stressed out over a lack of a bowel movement. Right after surgery it is common for individuals to not have a routine bowel movement. After all "liquids in = liquids out". If you really become compacted, then I would recommend glycerin suppositories that you have to shove up your rear end.
Also have you started to take any Probiotics. While you were in the hospital, you probably received antibiotics. This destroyed not only the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria in your gut. You will need to reestablish this good bacteria by taking probiotics for a few days.

Hgb A1C is 5.7, and have been off weekly Trulicity injections since just prior to surgery, Cholesterol 168 total (HDL, LDL good), Triglycerides down from 168 to 101 and my weight down 30 lbs. - I've had a few wt. loss stalls, but can't complain! Absolutely NO reflux since surgery, and it was severe before. I have been off Cholesterol med. since before surgery & can stay off. Praise the Lord, I feel very blessed!

I really had to look around the site for it, but here it is (hope it's okay I'm posting it--if not, please let me know and I'll take it down). I would urge others to check the site, though, because there are a ton of tasty sounding recipes there!
    **************************************************************
    Simple chicken salad
Prep Time 10 mins Total Time 10 mins Very popular chicken salad recipe. You'll wonder if this will be bland and tasteless with just few ingredients, but I promise you, it won't. Super flavorful and extremely easy.
Course: Main Course, Salad Cuisine: American Dietary Consideration: High Fat, High Protein, Keto, Low Carb, Low Sugar Cooking Style: No Cook Ease of Cooking: Pour and Cook, Under 30 Mins Recipe Type: Chicken, Salads Servings: Ingredients 4 cups chicken breast 1/3 cup mayonnaise 1 cup celery thinly sliced 1/4 cup almonds sliced 1 teaspoon salt 1-2 teaspoons pepper Equipment Kitchenaid Stand Mixer or Cuisinart food Processor US Customary - Metric Instructions Place cooked chicken meat in your Kitchenaid or other stand mixer. Use the paddle to shred the chicken. Do not skip this step! This is the key to why this salad is very creamy, moist, and just delicious. You can do this by pulsing in a food processor as well. This step is critical to finely shredding the chicken
Mix in everything into the chicken, and eat.
    No really, it's that simple.

FluffyChix, it is a great read. It is actually a book that he pushes for non-wls patients as well. His premise is that if you eat 1-2 pounds of leafy greens and other veggies per day, you won't have room for most of the bad foods that cause weight gain and health issues. I did it for a few weeks, and did lose weight.
My problem was that I could eat 5-7 cups or up to 3 pounds of food in 1 sitting. I ate the 1-2 pounds per day, and then still had room for a lot of other food. I think it could work wonders for me now if I can find a way to deal with the Protein issue.
I too ate a lot of Morningstar Farms as a vegetarian. I still have tons of veggie crumbles, veggie breakfast sausages and buffalo chicken nuggets in my freezer. I prefer them to the real thing as they are less greasy and "healthier". I would like to find a healthier option though. They really help with the protein dilemma, but utilize vital wheat gluten as a protein source which is definitely a problem for me.
I stopped drinking milk, and whey based Protein Shakes years ago after I watched Forks over Knives and a few other documentaries. Now I find myself indulging in them once more out of necessity right now. Veggie sourced protein shakes are just too chalky for me. They also have very little protein compared to whey sources. I would be interested in leaving these behind if I could get what I need from food alone.
I am open to leaving fish on the menu long term if I can get rid of milk, whey based protein sources, cheese, and other meats. I like tofu, and seitan. I think that maybe using these sources with egg whites, and maybe having salmon a couple of times per week will be good for me. We will see what the future holds. I have a little time to figure it all out.

At 3.5 months post-op I have found it pretty easy to transition. I am still eating some dairy, but have not consumed any meat in about 2 weeks now. I think until you are on solid foods it may be difficult, but I don't know.
I am happy if I get anywhere from 45-55g of Protein. I figure I am healed and that number is working for me. A Protein Shake for Breakfast helps a lot. I am eating salad almost everyday because the leafy greens are so healthy!! I usually have a serving of whole grain at dinner with some Beans, or tofu, veggies, ect... For a snack some times Peanut Butter on a couple of whole grain crackers, a serving of fruit, or a Protein Bar if I feel like I am running low.
I really want to eliminate cheese once and for all. I have only eaten it 2 times in 3 weeks so it is slowly leaving.

@DropWt4Life How well do you like his book? I'm considering getting it. I hear ya on the 1/2 cup food at a sitting. I don't really get that either. I'll go rewatch that video too!
I'm not really looking to go vegetarian, but in my old life before disease, I liked to take "meals off" from meat Proteins. I used to love Boca Burgers and Morning Star Farms Griller burgers. Then I developed a hormone positive disease and my doc doesn't want me eating soy any longer. So that kinda sucked.
It would be lovely to have some variety and have that flexibility when you just don't feel like making turkey, chicken, or fish! You know? And I eat tons of eggs and egg whites--which I still love, but still...

Following this thread I went to my NUT appointment yesterday and we talked about my desire to phase out meat. I was a strict vegetarian for 8 years and I dropped the weight but couldn't keep it off...I turned into a carbitarian eating french fries, breads, etc. NUT says WLS and veg lifestyle doesn't mix but that she's welcome to talk about it at my 6-month appointment in January. I feel that we can make it work if we really want to eliminate meat from our diet.

I have not had the same experience, but was an ovo vegetarian for 3 years. I still eat a mostly vegetarian diet with fish/turkey incorporated (have to right now). Once I am farther away from surgery, I will probably move back or at the very least become a pescatarian. I just have to get better at getting my Protein without the addition of mock meats, whey Protein Shakes and CHEESE! I love egg whites, but just can't stand to eat them everyday. Veggie Protein is nasty to me, and very chalky as well. I will figure something out, because I just don't want to go back to animal foods being 60%+ of my diet long term. I feel better at 20% or less. I would be interested in hearing ideas about getting protein in without meat, mock meats, whey protein, cheese and milk, and/or an excess of tofu/soy products. The sheer amount of food I was able to take in in one sitting helped me reach my protein goals before (5-7 cups), but this will not be enough while I can only consume 1/2 cup of food.

I was vegetarian for 3 years, and always made my own Protein Shakes with Orgain Organic Protein Powder.
2 scoops of Orgain chocolate Protein powder (150 cals, 21g protein, 5g Fiber, 5g net carbs)
1Tbsp of PBFit Peanut Butter Powder (25 cals, 3g protein, 2g fiber, 2g net carbs)
    2Tbsp Hemp Seeds (114 cals, 7g protein, 2g fiber, 0g net carbs)
1Tbsp ground Flax Seeds (37 cals, 1g protein, 2g fiber, 0g net carbs)
2 cups of Unsweetened Almond Milk (60 cals, 2g protein, 0g fiber, 2g net carbs)
1 medium frozen banana (105 cals, 1g protein, 3g fiber, 24g net carbs)
1 cup frozen spinach (45 cals, 6g protein, 4g fiber, 2g net carbs)
Ice and Water to desired consistency
Macros: (536 cals, 41g protein, 18g fiber, 35g net carbs)
This makes approximately 32-40 ounces depending on amount of ice and water added, so if you broke this up to 2 shakes, 268 cals, 20.5g protein, 9g fiber, 17.5g net carbs.

Wow...I would be nervous too. The recovery is going to be very difficult, but not impossible. You will need a really good support system with your doctor and family. Hopefully you will be able to take the time off from work to truly heal like you need to.

I had my lapband placed in 2009 and it was removed in April. I have surgery on Dec 21st. I am having my gastric bypass laproscopically. I know I would need about 6 weeks or more of recovery if I had to have it done open.

So glad you're posting your story. Please let us know how you are doing.

Its incredible how fast time passes, yesterday was my 3 months surgiversary and I couldn’t be happier.
The results im seeing amaze me, every day i’m more and more in love with my surgery, i became a new person, i’m happier, been going out a lot more, i can walk all I want and don’t get tired, i’m still working on some things like my laziness (the couch calls my name and i can’t resist it) luckily i lost my love for fries and chicken nuggets but i do miss diet coke
So far i lost almost 34 kg which I couldn’t have done without surgery.
Surgery was magical for me and the only thing I regret about this is that I didn’t do it sooner.
I’ll leave you some pics of my highest weight compared to what I look today and some stats.

I'm 59 and had the Lapband revision with Gastric bypass 3 weeks ago. I'm so thankful I did already! I only stayed 1 night in the hospital (pre op they thought it would be 2 - 3 days). Surgery went smoothly, although the Dr. said I had a lot of scar tissue around the band. I walked twice the evening of surgery, and walking twice a day around the block (stepping up the distance today). Following instructions to the letter, and I too was anxious prior to surgery, but was miserable with reflux, wt. gain over the past few years & digestion just wasn't right. Wish I knew a few years back the band was probably causing my prior issues, but at least we moved forward! God bless you on your journey, like everyone else - so thankful I did it - NO reflux at all, no med. for Diabetes, and probably come off cholesterol med. (haven't needed to restart it)

On April 5 this year I had my rny. A year ago I was told that I was looking at losing 20-30 years of my life because of my insulin need and weight gain. I wasn’t even 30 yet. Now I’m 10 lbs from goal and scared to loss that much because I am just so happy were I am now. I went from a size 18 to a size 4/6 on bottom and a 2-3x on top to a small. I’ve never been this tiny and looking in the mirror is hard some days because I don’t know who I see. But overall I am so much happier. I’ve been off insulin since less than a week after surgery. My asthma is better. And generally my moods have been so much more stable. I am learning to deal with emotions and not eat them (I’ve tried and the physical pain isn’t worth it). And now I am just trying to see how to do these last few pounds till goal without freaking out! Workouts are in my future but for maintenance and maybe I’ll build some muscles . But being so small feels weird. I don’t know what to do with that feeling yet but at least I know it’s there! Anyone else struggle with this?

I'm not sure when you wrote me this as I am just seeing it now however I have done fairly well. Saturday was one month since my surgery and I've lost a total of 20lbs so far. I'm still finding it hard to stay off the scale but I'm managing. Congratulations on getting out off your rut. That's so awesome!

Thanks! I am doing much better! I still can't keep much more than Water or Soup down but that's better than nothing! As for the weight I can definitely feel the difference when I put my clothes on. They are all much looser now. I just sometimes feel I should of lost more than 20lbs by now and that makes me feel down sometimes

I ate a lot of refried Beans. I also would pour some of the liquid out of lentil Soup and put my immersion blender in it to eat the thickened lentils and vegetables. I ate greek yogurt and tofu. I think I was allowed to eat string cheese at that point as well. I was allowed to have eggs then, but only had them a few times at that stage.
