I am going to be very open in the hope that it helps others. My surgeon had operated on THREE people I knew with great results. And if I hadn't observed them I might never have researched it. I hate when people say "you didn't need to do that" and I tell them that once you have gone over a certain BMI you only have a 1 or 2 % chance of losing the weight and keeping it off. It's very new science and I'm delighted to talk about it.

Yes, me. Tolerating it fine and refuse to eat fake food like 0% crap. It's old science to think that fat free products are the way. Although I'm sure some people will have tolerance problems. I AM going to give up sugar though.

Fresh crab mashed into avocado OR sweet potato with a bit of squeezed lemon is becoming a fave. Just got a sudden craving for crab, don't know where that came from.

Cannot recommend this highly enough. I always set it for 6 hours no matter the size of chicken. You can tone down the spice rub if you want, but it's actually very slight. I don't bother grilling it at the end to crisp the skin. (Right now we're not going to be using the skin anyway). I make it regularly and added the broth and veg and chicken to a small bowl of brown rice or similar. But made it today on Day 3 of Purees, pulled a tiny bit of chicken (it's so soft and tearable done this way), one chunk of carrot and the juices and pureed them and it was the first time I actually wanted more of anything since my op. Whoever made this recipe up is a genuis. At the moment I'm not eating the other veg - onion & celery - as I don't want to take chances. Of course once you have picked the chicken you can chuck the bones back in and get a superb stock. And THIS is my fave recipe for that http://www.theyummylife.com/Slow_Cooker_Chicken_Broth
My Mum had Gastric Bypass almost a year ago and when I made the Chicken in Slow Cooker for her she got so much wellness out of it. Good luck!! I wonder what other peoples faves are.

Don't keep any questions to yourself, this is what the forum is for!! You didn't strike a nerve with me -- I get that you are just getting things together. Fluffy is exploring the same stuff we all are and asking a legit question -- I thing many women are more inclined to research things to death! :-)
    All the best,

I didn't thing this site was segregated and split into genders I am new on here, I can't even see a place to look for the men's forum, I am a little embarrassed I think all my questions I've asked are in the woman's forum, I will keep my questions to myself till I find the right forum... At any rate, I am very sorry to have offended you.. I sure didn't intend to strike a nerve or offend anyone with what was intended to be very innocent question.. I merely asked a question that was on my mind. I am not and I don't think any of us are taking this lightly in the slightest, We are all putting our lives in the hands of someone else. I was only looking for support and guidance, just wanted someone to say "don't eat fatty beef " or " I had to give up mustard because it upset my stomach.

I love your exuberance about your coming WLS. Wish I didn't have so long to wait for mine!
But I just have a question cuz we're all SO very different! No judgement here, just curiosity. I'm using this time while I wait for surgery to research all the things. All. The. Things. Trying to figure out and get my head in the game so I don't act like the movie Groundhog Day and repeat the weight gain after surgery. I do not want to ever have to lose weight a second time. So from the things I used to eat that are now sitting strapped to my ass (and have been for about 47 years), to the knowledge that once a food junkie always a food junkie...I know I have to stay away from certain things. One of those things would be beer (other than a once in a blue moon thing, or maybe only a pull off someone's bottle of beer).
Why would you work so hard, go through so much pain, money and endure so much upheaval, just to look forward to going back to eating and drinking the same stuff that got you to the dance in the first place? I've no problem with the idea of eating 4oz of a steak in the future. I don't believe that's what made you or I fluffy. But the beer? Um, yeah...not to mention that even after 6mos to a year, alcohol is really pretty hard on the liver. The surgery isn't magic. Things that made you fat before will still make you fat for future you once you start ingesting them again. You will be able to figure out how to eat around your restriction...
In my unsolicited pre-surg opinion, it seems to me, that a really good activity would be to look at the things that contributed to your present health situation. Catalogue them. Write them in red on your mirror so you read them every day--and often. Then steer your new anatomy and path so very far around those previous things that you cut a very wide berth from them!? Don't you agree?

I'm pretty sure you know that a 4oz of steak and big bowl of sauteed greens and garlic didn't make you husky. Right?
Sorry to offend you and not trying to kill your joy. Just seriously curious about what's going on in your mind right now as you process what's about to happen to you?

Another hand up for whole fat. I can only eat the full-fat cottage cheese. Anything less and it tastes gross to me. Same with mayo or any other fat-based food. I politely ignore the suggestions to eat sugar-substitutes as well. My taste buds HATE the fake flavors and I know they're bad for my body, so I'm not going to sweat a tiny amount of real sugar here and there.

I'm so glad this thread has started as all the "official" bariatric advice seems to be low cal, zero fat etc., and so much has changed in nutrition since the day of the fat free "calorie" obsessed diets. I do recognise that my way of eating wasn't healthy before, for me it was all obsessively healthy OR "off the wagon" days eating industrial amounts of sugar. For me, I'm going to give up sugar entirely now that I've had this done. But healthy fats are essential. Luckily I consult my own nutritionist that I trust otherwise I would have been lost. I'm going to check out Primal Kitchen mayo top tip thanks - looks like I can get it here in the UK.

I'm loving 1 scrambled egg with a tiny pat of butter, cotttage cheese, really good chicken broth for collagen, Protein Shake made with great quality whey Protein and coconut Water. Hummus didn't go down well for me. The BEST has been a slow cooked chicken puréed with a chunk of carrot and the juices - absolute heaven. If you have a slow cooker I can give you the recipe.

( I'm no where close to where I want to be.. Only being almost 3 months out I didn't want to post any side by sides)

I'm not here to post what's realistic I never once said in two weeks you will lose 40 pounds like I did I said what I lost, I never put a dream up there like everybody's going to lose weight like this all I did was post what happened to me. I never told anyone that they will lose weight just like I did all I can do is post about my journey I can't speak for no one else and I'm not going to. But to say someone else is "unrealistic" that's very wrong to say to anyone how can you tell somebody else what's unrealistic? how can you know what's going on within my body how can you know my drive? My hard work? My genetics? Every one is one in a billion.. Don't put me in a bunch

Ok, the plot is officially as thick and opaque as molasses..
Apparently most studies use the Metlife height/weight charts to determine "ideal body weight".
    Interesting reading:
    http://halls.md/met-life-ideal-weight/
For those that don't read the page.. basically it says that your height should be measured when you are wearing 1" heels. Weight measured wearing 3 pounds of clothing. Small/medium/large frames are subjective.
But, in an effort to find my own "ideal" weight, I persevered.
Take my height, add an inch. Look on the large frame side to accomodate extra skin and bone mass from being obese virtually my whole life. Then find the middle of the range, and finally, subtract 3 pounds.
My ideal weight should be 153lbs. Which happens to be 6 pounds less than the top of the normal bmi range.
But, remember all those studies didn't figure it that way. They just take your height and do the middle of the medium, which for me is 143lbs... assuming they don't forget the 1" heels! Arrrgggg...
But if we're talking clothed weight, then my starting weight was 308, ideal weight is 143 and so after subtracting 65% from my 165lbs of excess body weight, I'm left with an expected loss down to 200lbs.
    ....
    ....
Remember what I said about the dart board???

Research studies show that mortality rates are higher for those that are obese along with those that are underweight. It is important to have a little fat on the body because when major injury or illness strikes, this fat is the reservoir of energy that the body draws on until recovery. So the end goal is to maintain a normal healthy body weight. I set my goal weight to the high side of normal BMI.

I chose the goal that I did, because I remember purchasing life insurance 10 years ago. I was sitting at 290 pounds, and my rep told me that if I was at 220 or less, my premiums would be 50% cheaper. I was kind've pissed, because I had never had health related issues. All of my levels were excellent. I argued that lots of people under 220 have health issues, but he said that was just the formula, so I purchased at the higher rate.
I still remember that conversation, so I chose that weight. With the weight that I've lost, I am fitting into 36" waist jeans, which is what I wore in 8th grade. Another 40 pounds might be super hard to achieve without cannibalizing muscle, but we will see. All I can do is try my best.
