I just had my first Nutrition meetings.
My health care provider puts the first one in a group setting and then from there you can choose to go solo. I didn't mind the group until well.. they started talking.
Out of the four of us, one woman was so sweet. She was working for the local food bank and offered free vegetables to anyone who may be lacking in the funds to buy them. Quickly, the other lady jumped, and said, "Do you ask proof of income before you pass out those vegetables?! My company donates a lot of money to that group and I know people show up in fancy cars." Umm.. ok, well maybe that is true, but we are here for bariatric surgery information. Free veggies seems a worthy mention for some.
The group leader moved ahead in a smart way and soon we were all looking at her drawings of two stomaches, one cut for bariatric sleeve surgery and the other bariatric bypass. She did a great job at explaining each and what would happen with each. Well done.
"What?! I am confused. Explain that bariatric bypass again." Apparently, Negative Nattie, who wouldn't give a carrot or squash to a poor person in a nice car, has no idea what bariatric bypass surgery entails.
The sweet group leader explains again how small the new stomach would be. "Thats bananas!!", Negative Nattie yells.
I am amused. Really, you came this far and you didn't know this? Food bank woman is politely smiling as she knew most of what was being explained.
The sweet group leader then asks me to hold up a measuring cup of 1/4 cup.
"That is how much food your new stomach will hold?!?" Negative Nattie grabs it and said, "How are we suppose to fit in Thanksgiving dinner, turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, in that?!"
And that, I now see, is why they enforce Nutritional Counseling before the surgery. Because even the "smartest" "professionals" sometime don't google the basics.

Depends. Greens vegetables are generally speaking safe (kale, spinach, cucumber). All the veggie juice that you probably like (carrots, tomatoes) are not ok. One Tomato has 3.2g of sugar. If you juice only 3 tomatoes [emoji534] that's almost 10g of sugar. 1 medium carrot 🥕 2.9 g of sugar.
