shessoonsleeved reacted to DropWt4Life in 3 Months Out Progress and Height Surprise!
I am officially three months out as of yesterday, 11/7/2017. I feel great. I never thought that I would realize this rate of success so quickly. May of this year, I was sitting at 326 pounds. I was unhappy. I was just existing. I had been overweight for the majority of my life even though I was always active. I was the most in shape fat guy around. I worked out 5-7X per week for years. I tried every diet known to man. I would lose 30-50 pounds, and then gain it back. It was then hard to start up again. I tended to eat well during the week, only to destroy my progress over the weekend.
I had surgery on August 7, 2017. It was truly a life-changing experience. Shot out to Dr. Illan in Mexico, and Bariatric Pal for giving me this opportunity to change my life for the better. I am 19 pounds from my goal as of today. I have gone from a 44" pant size to a 36" pant size. The most miraculous thing that I noticed today is that I am no longer 6'2.5" tall. I am 6'3" today. I actually grew a half inch! I found out at a doctor's appointment two years ago that I had shrunk a half inch. I though that it was because of age. Well, look at the pictures below.
The left grouping was taken in May at my high weight of 326 pounds. The middle grouping was taken on 8/7 and 8/8 (before and after surgery) at 289 pounds. The right grouping was taken yesterday at 239 pounds. If you compare the middle and last grouping, you can tell that my posture has straightened out. I am actually taller by a half inch. Crazy!
Anyway, I didn't do this in SUCCESS STORIES, because I don't feel that I am there just yet. Who knows what the next three months have in store for me!
Has anyone else noticed a height change after weight loss?

I am pleased to say that I have reached my goal, yaaayyy. My goal weight was 150 lbs but I weighed myself this morning and I am 149.8 lbs. This has been a hard journey mentally but for me( many of you know I have gone thru a divorce as well ). My starting weight was 242lbs, day of surgery 12/5/16 I was 219 lbs, and 8 months later I am 149.8 lbs. 7 lbs away from almost losing 100 lbs. I feel so good right now about myself. Not just because of how I look but how I feel inside. I'm starting to love me flaws and all. I am working on the mental side of things with prayer and supplication. God is a healer and I'm trusting him to keep me. I thank all of you on this site for your support , it has been epic on this journey. I so truly appreciate you. The encouragement I received from total strangers has far outweighed what I received from family and friends. Thank you again. Hope u like the pics.

Progress pic 2 and a half months out. 35 lbs down. i've dropped 2 pant sizes and even though I have a ways to go...The girl in the pic before surgery was sad, embarrassed, insecure...but now my confidence is climbing up again and I'm learning to love myself as I'm losing the weight. I've found that I'm not hiding. I put effort into how I present myself because I'm not worried about having to shop now. I'm so happy with my progress and how I'm practicing self love instead of self sabotage. This was yesterday and I was really feelin myself before I left for work. When you feel good about yourself, and love yourself, you have this light that shines and man people have been noticing the difference too. Hope you're all doing well on your journeys!

Happened to think of my favorite way to cook a flavorful soft cooked scrambled egg!

Add a quick small splash of skim milk and break up wedge of whatever flavor low cal laughing cow you like (I like Asiago). Wisk it all together, and viola! A great soft scrambled egg with little bites of creamy flavor!

I am 9 months post op, and down 72.5 lbs. My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit to the point where I am only losing about 5 lbs per months now. I still have 30 lbs to go to get to my goal weight, but slow and steady has proven to be good for me. I am finding that I don’t really have any loose skin. I think that is for several reasons. First, I have been losing at a slow and steady pace. Also, I work out every morning before work. This includes cardio and weight training. Finally, I started making my own body butters right after my surgery to specifically target loose skin and stretch marks. I slather it on every day. The pictures I am attaching show me prior to my surgery, at 3 months post op, and then this morning at 9 months post op. I still have a ways to go, but I can definitely see a difference at each phase. It helps to compare these pictures because I have been feeling a bit discouraged lately with the scale moving so slow.

So 18 days post op. Weighed 410 when I began pre-op diet and 389 when I went for surgery. This morning, 354 for a total weight loss of 56 lbs (35lbs post operative)!
Into the pureed foods phase of the post op diet. Really grooving on mushy chicken and blasted broccoli!
Went to a party at a friend's house this weekend. Taco party. Didn't miss the drinking too much (but left as the crew began to get sloppy) and I ate like 2 oz of ground turkey chili with a tiny knob of guac and a splash of hot sauce. After that I was fine and didn't feel deprived. Drank my Vitamin Water and was okay with it.
Really enjoying making homemade pureed Soup. I buy a rotisserie chicken and use it to make a rich, golden, flavorful stock (the meat is eaten by others in the household, although now I can puree 3 oz of it and enjoy it at dinner). But I have been making mushroom marsala soup, sweet potato soup with a dash of Chinese hoisin sauce for flavor, french onion (without the swiss cheese, but a teaspoon of parmesan for the flavor of cheese), broccoli soup and these have been excellent.
Walking a mile, four days a week. I find that the days I walk, i have better weight loss the next morning. Also, my wife is thrilled that I am now able to keep up with her when we walk together (which I hadn't been able to do for a long time).
Pulling all kinds of old clothing from the back of the closet. Favorite duds I grew out of long ago are fitting nicely now. ALL MY 4X clothes are too damn big and have been removed from the closet to be donated or chucked. So that's a gas!
Now that I am ingesting things other than pure liquids, it is interesting to see how small the capacity is of my new stomach. I am eating slowly so that I can tell when it is full up. Sat down to 3 oz of soft chicken at dinner and could only eat 2 oz before i was totally full. Couple bites of mooshat broccoli too. So about 3 oz capacity altogether. Very weird!
Anyhow, no pain, no nausea, mental clarity returned tuesday last week and I am back to work. My ankles and knees don't hurt any more. Really feeling great. I guess the emergency second surgery was the worst of it and I life is making up for my almost dying by making easy the rest of the journey (so far).

I was sleeved on 9/12 and feel great! For the last fifteen years or so, other than the last six weeks, my husband and I would eat a big Sunday Breakfast together. Today we were able to get back to that tradition, but for me, it was one scrambled egg instead of three, with no toast or bacon.
What a difference in my mindset! As it turns out, it wasn't ever about the quantity of food! It was about the company and siting down to a meal together and having a nice conversation. I'm just as satisfied now as I ever was with a huge plateful of food.

Has anyone tried these? There are delicious. 2 egg bites have 19 grams of Protein and 9 carbs. I get the bacon and cheese. I can only eat one they are so filling. I can get two meals out of one order. They also have egg white with red peppers.

shessoonsleeved reacted to LittleLizzieLilliput in Best piece of advice you can offer for a post-op sleeve patient
    I'm 11 months post op.

    Best advice:

This isn't an easy process, give yourself a lot of leeway and care, understand you will be going through ups and downs Get all of your liquid diet, post-op, supplies settled before the surgery Don't try to test your new sleeve, just sip sip sip water/protein and walk walk walk You will most likely it a stall or pause about 3 week in. Your body has gone through a major trauma and needs time. Don't freak out, understand you are healing and swollen Don't over-do the exercise/work out in the first weeks of recovery, you can hurt yourself or pull your stiches You may find yourself feeling depressed or a sense of regret post surgery, this is also common for many of us. Ride it out, your hormones, your emotions, your body is all out of wack. You WILL get back to a new Normal, You WILL feel like a regular person again, you WILL find your balance in this process and begin to feel like yourself again Focus on Walking, on getting your Water and Protein in Get one of those abdominal compression things for post surgery Good luck on everything! I'm sure there is more advice

shessoonsleeved reacted to haylee_d in Pics 6 months post-op VSG
I'm bearing my soul and body here. I couldn't be more proud of how my body has changed.
I've lost exactly 70 pounds since my surgery. Today marks exactly 24 weeks ( 6 months ) since my VSG surgery.
There's good, bad and ugly about VSG. A lot of days, I cried and wondered why in the hell I had this surgery, and what in the hell ive done to myself. Throughout this process, I haven't been able to REALLY see the changes. In my mind, I always see a 268 pound fat girl. Granted, I have seen the changes, seen the smaller clothes sizes, but still struggled with my self image in my head. But today that all changed....
I realized today as I was getting dressed that I had on the same exact underwear as the day I took my pre-surgery pictures. Then I realized that today marked 6 months since surgery. So, i decided to take pictures.
I haven't taken pictures in this process because of the absolute shame and disgust I feel towards myself. Shame and disgust are understatement words for how I feel about myself. Until today...
Today, I feel proud. For the first time, I can honestly say that I don't see "that fat girl" in the mirror anymore. It may not be pretty, it will never be perfect, but it's mine, and today I'm owning it, and FINALLY for once in my LIFE, I'm feeling proud.
It's NOT an easy decision to post these photos of me in my underwear. I feel absolutely vulnerable and exposed. Please be kind. It took all the courage I could muster to do this. The current pictures are not the best quality but the best I could take of myself at the moment.
All you new VSG-ers, stay the course and have faith. If you have body image issues as I do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you are not alone in the dark!
Much love from me to you all! ️️️
