Thanks for your recommendations! I've got a crock pot, scale and measuring instruments and I added a three tiered food steamer to my wedding registry.
My surgery is in five days and I can't wait to be able to cook again!

I have a small kitchenette (no oven or stove) so I use a lot of gadgets. Mostly: microwave, toaster oven, crock pot, and of course my food scale.
I have an egg cooker, panini press/grill, electric skillet, and rice cooker that I use less often, mostly because of lack of counter space.
The rice cooker is great for steaming vegetables, fish, etc.

I brought comfy pants which I didn’t use because my hospital provided pants. I was in a two person room and roomie got there first and controlled the tv the whole time. I just used my phone instead to watch what I wanted. I didn’t shower the next day cause hospital shower didn’t look appealing. I showered when I got home. I was glad I didn’t pack heavy because I didn’t need any of it.

Congratulations! Seems like we both had our surgeries around the same time. I just completed my 5 week checkup as well.

I’ve also experienced dumping syndrome but I experience it differently. I get a tummy ache then I lay down and fall asleep anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how bad it is. bread did me in the worst. I’ve been able to tolerate most other foods in small doses though; wings, ice cream, pop corn with butter, pizza, Pasta dishes etc etc. I’ve started exercising again doing cardio in the mornings and Crossfit in the afternoons although exercise was never my problem...

I couldn’t do the Protein Shakes so I bought Protein Soup and protein Fruit Drinks which went down much easier. I bought them in the BariatricPal Store. Have you tried those?

Surgical glue is meant to stay on 5-10 days. You should be ok.

I would recommend the Protein Fruit Drinks like grapefruit or orange. I also recommend protein Soups which were quite good. You can get them from the store on this site. Also the protein hot chocolate was yum. I also had a hard time with the Protein Shakes. Good luck!

I suggest trying new foods when you know you will be at home for a few hours. Then take one or two small bites. Give it 15-20 minutes. If you don’t feel wonky, enjoy the new food! For me dumping syndrome is an upset stomach and then I lie down and fall asleep for 1-3 hours. I don’t throw up or have diarrhea (thankfully). So far the foods that has really upset my stomach is bread (something we are not suppose to eat anyway) and anything with too much sugar (again, something we are not suppose to eat).

I had a salad of greens, beets and feta with green goddess dressing 1 month out with no ill effects. My advice is the try new things on the weekend if you work just in case. Also take a small bite or two and see if you feel wonky. If not, enjoy!

I bought the variety pack to keep it interesting. I liked all of them; cream of chicken, Tomato, chicken, beef and cream of mushroom. The “cream” of soups were not really “cream” and fine during the liquid phase.

Yes. I “cheated” all the way through the stages by starting the next stage earlier than recommended. My doctor even told me that some people do this and that as long as I tested the food with a small bite or two and I was fine I could eat what I tolerated. I even cheated the first night after surgery lol. dinner came (tea, Soup and jello) and I ate it all over the next few hours (10oz). The nurse freaked out but the surgical resident said it was fine as long as my stomach tolerated it.

So my advice is to take a small bite or two and see what you can tolerate.

    Thanks all
Had a scrambled egg for breakfast today - no fatigue. So you are right Fluffychix - sugar spike.
Intersting. Pre surgery I could eat a family size Cadbury block and have no such spike - or not that I noticed.
Maybe this will make me more in tune with my body. I have long regarded my body as simply a (pretty ugly) method to carry my brain around...

I chose bypass for my GERD and also a hernia repair which was part of the problem my GERD made me cough all day long. I am now symptom free. It’s great! I highly recommend the bypass.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I’m very aware of chewing everything very well so that I don’t have pain. I’m also very aware of how much I’m eating so that I don’t have pain (2-4oz at a time). I’m eating a bit slower and taking smaller bites but I’m not eating super slow.

no - the big drops you see are usually in the first 2-4 weeks. Then many of us hit our first stall. After that the weight loss resumes, but not nearly as fast. Slow but steady. Just stick to your plan and it'll come off, though... Compliance is key.
