  1. Surgery went well. Been sleeping most of the day. I feel okay with pain meds...rough when they wear out...dilaudid is my friend
  2. Tomorrow is the big day. I'm having the SIPS DS in the morning! I'm excited but getting quite nervous!

    Tomorrow is the Day

    Thanks!
  4. Okay so I posted a picture of my strawberry jello for tomorrow's pre-surgery day of clear liquids and someone commented they weren't allowed red liquids before surgery. My doctor did not specify. Did anyone have red jello before surgery? Or were you told to avoid it? I'll call my doc's office in the morning, but wondering your experience. Thanks!
  5. I'm relatively new here too. I've seen some of the negative remarks and just skipped over them. I personally have only had supportive comments written to my post.

    Berry78's 6 month photos

No way people haven't noticed! They just don't feel free to comment. Your transformation is amazing!
  7. This morning I was thinking about what I might want for dinner on Tuesday, my last solid food meal for a while (surgery on Thursday). I found myself rather underwhelmed...it's just food...I simply don't care that much...I feel ready to just move on to this next part of my life...did anyone else feel that way right before surgery?
  8. Yes, that would be autocorrect at work! I meant vegetable eater

    Monthly visitor

I have had an unusually long cycle my entire life. So when I had the period from hell last month, I thought the one consolation was that I probably wouldn't get it this month for my surgery...but two days ago I started spotting like my period will hit in a few days...surgery is Thursday! Ugh!!!
  10. I too have always been a vegetable water. I'm certain it is why despite a very high BMI, I do not suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol issues. I also think I inherited good genes on that front.

    Feeling blasé about food

Lol! I'm pretty sure a pan of brownies wouldn't make me "less" of a person!!
  12. So I'm trying to plan for after my surgery (3 weeks away) and I'm wondering how much help everyone needed. My wife is going to need to go back to work a day or two after I get home. Should I ask my parents or a friend to come stay with me during the day? Also, how was doing stairs? My bedroom is on the second floor.
  13. I chose the SIPS because it has higher rates of weight loss than either VSG or Gastric Bypass. It does have malabsorption risks but I feel confident those can be well managed with commitment to supplements and follow up.
  14. I would say the two week pre op is definitely part of your journey! I intend to count every single pound lost!! We earn those!
  15. As part of my medical clearances for surgery in Just under 3 weeks, they did a urinalysis which had more white blood cells than expected. Now I'm worried that a possible UTI could derail my surgery date! I'm hoping that if I have one, there is enough time for antibiotics to clear it up! Anyone else have a similar experience?

    Should I be concerned? Incisions...

I hope it heals well for you now!

    Possible UTI?!!

Lmao!!! Penicillin did the trick! [emoji57]

    One week to go

My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday. Today I had my final pre-op visit with the surgeon. Everything went well. He was pleased with the 17 lbs I lost (even though he doesn't require a pre-op diet)....must confess that I'm starting to feel a little nervous.

    Thanks everyone

    No Pre-Op Diet

So does anyone else have a doctor who doesn't require a major pre-op diet? I met with the nutritionist and her only instructions to me were to substitute a protein shake for breakfast, reduce carbohydrates to 1 serving per meal, drink 64 oz water per day and not drink when I eat. That's it. I only have a clear liquids restriction the day before surgery. My doctor is highly respected and I have utmost confidence in him, so I'm not questioning it. I am, in fact, grateful for the easier process...but I was wondering if anyone else had similar experience?

    No Pre-Op Diet

I don't know why some doctors require it while others deem it unnecessary. I don't know if it is related to experience since from what I've seen on these forums a LOT of doctors do it. My doctor doesn't find it necessary and I trust him. But we all need to trust the team we have chosen!

    It's Pumkin season!!

that sounds fantastic! I am SO buying pumpkin this week!
  23. I've always been an emotional eater and as I get myself ready for surgery next week, I'm wondering how the veterans...those who have lost the weight and kept it off for more than a year or two...dealt with stress and other emotions, once you were no longer acting out with food. I've just started seeing a therapist, to work on these issues, but there's nothing like hearing from those who have lived it. What worked/works for you? I'm looking for tools to help me succeed. Thanks!
  24. This is great! Keep 'em coming!
  25. This is helpful! Even pre-op, I've started at the gym. Because of my weight and my knees I'm very limited in what I can do, but three mornings a week, I get in the pool. I do a very low impact water walking class. I doubt I burn a lot of calories doing it, but I definitely feel the difference in my mobility from getting off the couch and moving and I think that's a good start. On Fridays I stay and take an extra class, aqua zumba...that one burns more calories and gets a little more cardio in. I really enjoy the classes. I've always liked being in the water...and the feeling of being weightless in the pool is wonderful. My plan is to work my way up to more intense water classes and even start swimming laps at some point.
