I heard from my Drs office today......My surgery is Wednesday!! I am so excited!! I'm bout to go to the losers bench BABY!!

Hey all I just wanted to let everyone know how much help you all have been! It's been great to be able to come here and get advise and support. I'm really not nervous about the surgery because Ive had two back surgeries and a Lap band back in 2010. I guess I'm more nervous about how my life will be going forward. I just cant imagine it. I know I wont fail though. I am too determined!! I am slightly nervous about leakage, but it doesn't happen very often, and I trust my surgeon so here goes everyone!! Tomorrow at 7 am keep me in your thoughts!! Ill update as soon as I can!

I've been meaning to share this for a while. For a long time I'd been under the impression that bariatric surgery was covered by my health plan through work. Someone else in the company had it and said "Yeah, CIGNA covered it for me." Well, what I didn't know was he had the CIGNA *** plan and I was on the PPO. And when I compared the exemptions between the two plans, the only difference was that the *** covered weight loss programs and bariatric surgery while the PPO didn't because it was classified as "cosmetic." Switching to the *** plan was not an option for me or my family.
So I went to our HR department and explained the situation. They contacted our insurance broker and the got bariatric coverage added to the PPO plan effective 1/1/18. My appointment with the doctor is 1/3/18 at which point I'll kick off the whole process.
But the point is: If your insurance doesn't cover what you need, just ask about it. More and more companies are covering weight loss surgery when there is a demonstrated need. I actually work for a health plan and I know that the numbers show it's much more cost effective to help the member lose the weight than to pay for all of the medical complications that will arise if obesity is left untreated.
Here's the letter I sent to our HR director that got the ball rolling. Feel free to edit it and send to your own HR directors if you think it will help:

I was sleeved yesterday . and I'm happy I did it. Thank you all for your kind words it really help with my decision. Doing good just a little pain where the incisions are but overall good.

I know exactly what you mean. My surgery is this Wednesday and I woke up this morning with a scratchy throats on one side. It's springtime here (Australia) so I am convincing myself it's just a bit of hayfever! I am up to day 11 of the pre-op diet, so there's no stopping me now!

I like to call it the winners bench. As you lose weight you become more healthier. That's a win.

I would get broth, propel, and unflavored protien. That way you can pretty much add it to whatever you want to boost your intake. I'm nov 15th!! On day 3 of liquid diet

Mine is tomorrow the 13th too. Been a journey to get to this point. Scared, but here we go...

I’m in the same boat I start my liquid diet this Tuesday and no words from been approve ... heck my insurance hasn’t even receive anything yet.. so imagine my agony. Prayers for both girl!

When i had my lap-band I didnt get approved until the day before, and i was hoping it wasnt going to be like this again...do you know how hard it is to stay diligent on this stupid liquid diet not knowing if I'm approved or not!! Please pray for me y'all!! Down 6 lbs so far on this liquid diet so thats a plus!!

My two cents for whatever it's worth.
I'm only 3 years 5 months out. No regrets. I bounced back from surgery quickly. My weight came off quickly. I'm healthy and in the best shape of my life for an old fart. Maintained well for the first 2 years. 3rd year battling a 10-15 pound gain back and forth. I can gain weight quickly and it's a snail's pace to get it back off.
Always a risk of complications with any surgical procedure. Statistically is seems to be a low percentage.
I only have one minor issue from my sleeve procedure. I have reactive hypoglycemia/low blood sugars. It's manageable. ( I'm not in hospice care with month to live... so, life is good.)
Long term data and statistics have been an interesting thing. My local surgeons office is having problems collecting data because many patients stop coming in for appointments/check ups as they get further out from surgery.
I just decided I didn't want to be a statistic. I'm responsible for my own outcome and success with weight loss.
