angyplus5 reacted to GassyGurl in what does a gallbladder attack feel like?
I used to have gallbladder pain years ago, and was told it was sludge. So I'm familiar with how can feels.
Before surgery and Now that I'm 42 lbs down, I've had similar pain, but ultra sound revealed no problems. I was puzzled, and still in pain.
Mentioned it to my massage therapist and she massaged my rib muscles (intercostal?). The next day it felt like I'd been hit by a truck, but day 3 it was much better.
So, I'm not saying don't see your doctor, but if you check out OK, yet still have pain not related to eating, maybe it's muscle related.

angyplus5 reacted to FishOn in Pros and cons of surgery
I can only answer for myself. I am sure it is a different yet similar circumstance for the masses of this site.
Pros
1. To live a longer and healthier life, and see my grandchildren grow up.
2. To weed off medications, I am taking three pills just for blood pressure.
3. Not being singled out as the fat person and looked down on.
4. To fit into normal clothes and not worry about stores not having the jumbo sizes.
5. To be more active sexually.
6. To have more confidence, when I am slimmer I am more outgoing and confident.
7. To have my sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes and ED go away.
8. To start wearing those clothes in my closet that I have been putting off for a few more pounds.
9. I get compliments almost every day on the weight I have lost and how much better I look.
10. Your social life will get better.
Cons
1. You have to be serious committed to make major sacrifices at mealtime. No hearty meals.
2. I can only eat between 1/2 - 1 cup of food at a time.
3. Forsake certain foods for at least the first year such as pizza, white rice and heavy starches. (I sample)
4. Trying to eliminate loose saggy skin, skin loses elasticity as you age.
I am trying Vitamin E and Keratin moisturizers and gym workouts to fill with muscles.
5. You have to conquer old habits and wants for a newer you. Mental challenges.

angyplus5 reacted to BarbieVSG14 in It's already started.
It's easy to get upset at the offending partner when they make comments like that, but honestly take it from someone who's been married for 30 years, it all comes from a place of insecurity and fear of the unknown....for both of you. You need to help her understand that your journey to a healthier you is only going to make you a happier, more fulfilled person, which in turn should make her happy, too. Try to reassure her how important her love and support will mean to you as embark on this new chapter of your lives. After all, change is a normal, contstant part of life, and the strongest relationships can adapt.
As far as her not being willing to change her lifestyle, you can't control what she does, only how you react to it. YOU are choosing to do this, not her. Find another support system if need be. As long as she can at least emotionally support you, there's no need for her to change her activity and eating habits if she doesn't want to. My husband didn't, and I did just fine. You will too if you REALLY want to. She may also surprise you and come around.

Your 2yr old grandbaby doesn't care if you eat cake - just needs you to be there AND be there for years to come.
I never pay attention to what anyone is eating at a bd party, too busy watching the kiddos open presents. You can always volunteer to take the photos. Or clean up, then go in the kitchen and take a few bites of your planned food, come back out with a drink in your hand and look busy. Fake it.

@JohnnyCakes - Seems like an very cruel thing to say to a fellow Bariatric Pal a few hours after her surgery, don't you think? Looks like you had major success with losing weight...how about lifting up your fellow forum members when they need it the most instead of trying to shame them for being brave enough to share at a tough time to help others who are right behind her? I think she is frickin' awesome for taking the time to post on the day of surgery with helpful hints and encouraging words.

angyplus5 reacted to GeTnBackuP in What's your beauty secret?
Im finding that my skin has really cleared up this past week pre op with all the liquids and I’m now two days post op and I’m kind of glowing in the face! I might be mistaking that for a drug induced hot flash though LOL
I got several samples of Caudalie face lifting cream from Sephora and of course it’s amazing stuff with a heafty price tag but it’s very soothing and a little goes a long way- my face and neck are loving it! For new tattoos I always use raw Shea butter and that is extremely nourishing! As soon as I can put it on my belly that’s what I’ll start using again, for now I use all over.
Following, can’t wait to read what everyone else is in to....

angyplus5 reacted to Molly23 in Officially in the 100 club!
I hit a huge milestone last week and finally hit 100 pounds lost total! I'm about 5 months post op and I lost about 30 pounds of that during the pre-op diet.
A year ago I don't think I would have believed that I would be 100 pounds lighter. I was a size 24/3X at my highest and now I'm wearing size 14/L!
I'm so excited about how successful this surgery has been. I've been working hard to follow the plan during this time and I'm just thankful that I've been able to keep up with it. I have about 50lbs left to get into goal range. The nutritionist thinks somewhere between 150-170 will be good for me. It's really unbelievable to be so close to that weight. I'm about 2/3 of the way there and I'm just hopeful that I can reach goal.

angyplus5 reacted to wingzeroboy in It all started at 450
My journey involving bariatric sleeve surgery began at 450lbs.
My blood pressure was in true digits, both numbers, I had diabetes, and my doctor could only guess my BMI, because the chart went to 65, and I was over 70! My legs hurt all the time, and so did my back.
I could eat 100 wings in a single sitting. I ate 32 tacos at once to show off. It was killing me.
Almost 2 years ago, I started the bariatric journey, with Kathy Scutella. I got to the surgery date, but had to call it off because I had just gotten a job and without FMLA I would lose it. I have up for almost a year.
Then I got better insurance, and met my current PCP, Dr. Kelly Wienecke. She encouraged me to look into bariatric surgery again. So, I did.
I lost 68lbs before my surgery the second time through. That included the 16lbs I lost during the 2 week pre-op diet alone! I lost 7lbs in 7 days between my visit 1 week after the surgery with bariatrics and my appointment a week after that with my metabolic disease doctor.
My one month goal is to be down to 300lbs or less when I see Kathy Scutella again. She said 20lbs loss would be good. I want to go for more. Protein Shakes, salmon, eggs, yogurt, tuna, chicken all the time. I got healthy mayo and chicken broth to blend it up real good.
I read things on bariatric pal all the time. It gives me hope for having some things I used to eat. It gets lonely being the only one not eating what's for dinner. One day, in moderation I can though.
That's my short story. I've went from 450lbs to 314lbs in about 2 years. I got over 100 more left to lose.
