I had surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work on Monday (5 days).

dathvick got a reaction from Happy Sleever in What did it feel like for you when you achieved your goal weight?
I am almost 15 months Post Op (RnY Bypass). My goal weight is 165 lbs and this afternoon I weighed in at 170.0, only 5 lbs away. I am starting to feel a lot of emotion about my journey. It has been a lot easier than I thought it would be and the weight loss was slower than I expected but it was steady. I now find myself wondering if I am going to stop losing when I reach 165 lbs or will I continue? Will it have to be a daily thought to eat a little more than I am eating now so I will stop losing? I am excited for Thanksgiving and know that I won't have any problems eating correctly and not over eating, Once I set my mind to something I have no problem achieving it, I almost enjoy the challenge.
I would like to hear from others on how they felt as they approached their goal weight. Was it hard to maintain or did you keep losing?
  3. Congrats!

35 lbs the first month. I am posting my picture to show my weight loss and time frame. No need to reply to my progress or the way I look, I know I have been successful. This is just to give people an idea of what to expect if you stick to you doctors plans and follow the rules.

dathvick got a reaction from Frustr8 in Have you had the Shingles Rash?
I had nose surgery to repair a deviated septum this past Wednesday. I still have splints inside by nose so I am not allowed to blow it and I feel like I have the flu. Since Wednesday I have lost 5 lbs and now have broken out with the Shingles Rash. They say Shingles is brought on by a weaken immune system so I am thinking the Nose surgery might have been just a little too much for me right now. I think I would have been smart to have taken the Shingles Vaccine when it was offered to me a few months back. I am still eating and drinking what I should but am losing weight a lot faster than I have in months.

I have been told no carbonated drinks ever again and that includes beer so I drink whiskey or rum or wine and my surgeon doesn't have an issue with that.
The supplements are for the rest of our lives! That is 1 rule that can not be bent or broken or you will have issues. I am 14 months post op and I take 2 chewable Multi Vitamins a day (one in the morning and one before bed). I also take 2 Calcium with Vitamin D every day around lunch time.

My weight doesn't fluctuate more than a pound during the day usually. I knew they had the fluids really running during surgery so I knew I would be heavier than normal, I was just surprised at just how much.
I am back to normal this morning at 177.6 lbs.

I feel better now, I am back down under 180 lbs, I am now at 179.8. It just shows you how easy it is to gain and lose weight by fluids. I know none of the weight was fat but it is still a bad feeling to see the increase on the scale.

I got up this morning and weighed 179.6. This afternoon I weighed 182.0. I haven't eaten anything today (totally nothing).
I had nasal surgery this morning to repair a deviated septum (that's why I haven't eaten yet today), they must have really pumped me full of fluids during the procedure. I have been peeing a lot since getting released and was really surprised when I stepped on the scale. I hope it goes away as fast as I gained it, I don't want to be above 180lbs. LOL

I will continue to post nutrition articles that are of concern to bariatric patients. We are adults. Those who appreciate them can read them. Those who don't....can either continue to whine and cry about them....or act like adults and simply ignore them.
I've been thanked privately and encouraged to continue posting. I'm happy to do that for those who find it of use.

dathvick got a reaction from hwequestrian in Protein
My surgery was Sep 6th and I have lost 60 pounds so far. I was told to sip on a Protein Shake throughout the day (do not use it for meal replacement) until I was able to get 60 grams of Protein per day and then to get off the Protein Shakes because it will slow the weight loss. I was also told to get off "SLIDER" food as of my 2 month follow up. I asked what Slider food was and was told it is anything with liquid type consistency that slides right through my pouch without stopping (I was eating cottage cheese for Breakfast and lunch and they want me to eat more solid food). They wanted me to eat more solid food so it would stay in my stomach longer and I would get more of the nutrients from the foods I was eating.
