Aunt Flo's visitation schedule gets messed up for pretty much everyone postop. She can come early, late, heavy, light, and sometimes non-existent. No worries! She'll get back on schedule by 6 months or a year postop when the weight loss slows.

Yes, my nutritionist recommended the s/f pudding, s/f jello, cream of wheat , and low fat creams ( mushroom, chicken) your choice.

I thought it had to do with the absorption! I still need to look into it! Thanks!

    ER= extended release.

I also take Metoprolol ER. Even though mine has the same directive, it is scored in the middle, meaning that you can break it in two along the score line without problems. I did this in the beginning after surgery however I no longer need to.

living on these this week. Made in a 12 muffin muffin tin. Your really do need to cook vegetables until soft before adding in. I made some chicken gravy to hold on top. They are slightly dry. But very good and goes down very well.
I also used the reduce sugar cranberries. Lowish carb and high Fiber.

I think Iam doing it all wrong. Iam pureeing my food, but, it comes out like a milkshake. Totally gross. What consistancy should I be pureeing my food? Can it have little chunks in it?If someone could tell me, I would greatly appriciate it.

Doctor had me swallowing pills in the hospital so i am unsure... and my doctor has a slow food progression and very conservative usually.

I'd guess due to not swallowing air with it?

Yes, I feel like calling bullshit on this. I have taken them whole. I am tired of doing it. They are being overly cautious, I get it.

The more you have the faster you lose and conversely, the less you have to lose the slower you lose. When I was 375 I lost about 10 lbs a week. Now that I'm 168 I lose about 2 lbs a week, if that. But my body keeps changing and reshaping itself. I'm gaining muscle and strength, flexibility and movement. Even when the scale doesn't change my body still does. Try to change your perspective and thinking if you can. You will sabotage yourself if you start to think of this as a failure.

Because many of us were so morbidly obese (mine was over 50) that it makes sense that we would lose quickly. Please don't compare yourself to people like me. I was near death's door and have much more to lose than you in general. You are doing great- just work the plan and I PROMISE you it will work.

If that's true, how do you explain all these people that lose 30 pounds in the first month? I know my starting bmi was 36 so I had less to lose but it still is coming off so slowly. Maybe a pound a week now.

If it makes you feel any better, my understanding is, yje weight coming off really doesn't start actually happening till about 6 weeks after your surgery. Tha'ts about how long it takes to heal.

    Everyone here has great suggestions!
I just wanted to say hang in there-- the first couple of weeks were SO HARD, and I was hating my Protein Shakes by the end. I didn't get enough Protein in consistently until at least a month out, and it all worked out fine. Be gentle with yourself, keep sipping Water, and recognize that you are doing great.

My surgery was 7/24 and I am currently on my liquid phase. Everything is going well but I do have a struggle with completion of my 80 g of Protein a day! I totally understand the importance of protein in this vital step but I have a hard time getting all the grams in. By the end of the day, I can't stand the look of food. Anyone have any suggestions?

I too had my surgery on 6/21/2017. My nutritionist put me on a 60 grams of Protein. I really don't like the bariatric shakes. But I found that perimer Protein Shakes are not chalky but smooth, and they are 30 grams of protein per shake. I am in the 2nd phase with soft mushy foods and still have one more week of this phase till I move to phase three. However, phase two is a learning experience for me. I do throw up when my body doesn't agree with it or if I don't chew my food 28 times. But I've gotten smart, I now put my foods through a good processor where is greetings everything up for me so I can eat. Note: I'm only able to consume about 3 to 4oz of food, sometime less than that. But the key is to pay attention to your pouch be or stomach. Also, the main key is to get your 64 oz of Water and 2 Protein Shake before attempting to eat. Anyway, if you have any question please feel free to ask.

My sleeve was 6/21. I also struggle with the Protein Shakes and Vitamins tasting chalky. My Nutritionist wants me to do 75 gm/day Protein. I think that is excessive, lucky if I get half of that. It really is trial and error when it comes to foods. Also having daily headaches, struggle to get all the Water in now, fills up too fast.

HI there, there are some Protein Shakes out there with close to 30 grams of protein, if you could manage 3x day, you'd hit that goal! I know that there are also unflavored protein mixes available that you're able to add to Soups and anything else you'd be consuming. Makes it easier! Good luck 🙂

You just had surgery!! The first week is about hydration. I've been to my post op class after one week and a one month post op class. People there were still having hard times meeting Protein. You will get there.
I'm supposed to eat 3 meals and use 1-3 snacks-which are Protein Shakes, to get the protein in. The Snacks are only supposed to be 100 calories so if a shake is 170 cal, drink half a shake.
No way would I meet protein requirements without shakes.
Also, protein requirements are 65-80 g protien.
