It is pretty normal to stall. My weight loss has been slow and when I talked to my doctor, he said that I was not eating enough calories. I couldn't believe it. Eat more. I was getting around 600-700 calories at 7 weeks and it just was not enough. My doctor suggested that I up the calories to at least 1000 for a couple of days. I did this and I started losing more weight. I didn't think that I would have "time" to eat more calories during the day but I added in an extra shake and it has helped a lot.

Good for you!! I had my first life style class yesterday and the reason they don't want you to have caffeine is because the caffeine works at the strictures of either the sleeve or the pouch for the bypass surgery. Just eats away at them. And the reason you should not have carbonated drinks is that it expands your sleeve or pouch. Increasing the volume of them. These were interesting for me to learn the reasons why. So I'm going to start limiting my caffeine (I drink 2 cups coffee a day and the rest is Water 99% of the time so no worries about soda or pop for me). I'm going to have my 2 cups today because I already have a splitting headache. But starting tomorrow, I will have 1.5 cups for a few days and then I will go down to 1 cup for a bit then a half and then stop. I have plenty of time. I doubt I will have my procedure before end Oct. It's getting real for you girl!!! Keep up the good work!!!

If it was really pretty simple, we wouldn't need to have our stomachs surgically removed.

Ok, I did what research I could.. and the 6 weeks vs. 6 months argument actually has an interesting answer. You're both right.
How can that be, you say?
The body lays down an "emergency" layer of keratin in order to get things sealed up quickly. This takes about 6 weeks. Then, over the next 6 months to a year, it replaces this emergency layer with more permanent stuff.
So, yes, you're both right We'll just call it lucky that the body does the emergency layer first, or we'd be stuck on liquids for 6 months. This phenomenon might explain why the restriction feels different between 6 weeks and a year as well. The permanent tissue has a different texture.
Think about scars in the skin.. the skin first seals up, and has a lumpy, red or dark color. After a year, it changes (turns lighter, smoother, etc). That's what is happening on the inside.

Using the card isn't asking for a discount. It's asking to order a smaller portion at an already set price that happens to be reduced. I already order from the kids menu in most places and have never had an issue or been told no. This leads me to believe its not that much of an issue to most establishments.
Everyone has their own financial situation and a lot of people here are self pay. So if they want to save a few bucks by ordering only what they can eat I say let them. If it doesn't affect me who am I to complain?

Mrsburk525 reacted to Mrsa in What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
Also, I had a few moments of sheer panic of "Why did I do this; what have I done to myself?!?" It always came after a nap. I'd wake up and for a split second forgotten I had surgery and then when I remembered, the panic would come. I could talk myself down but prepare for a few moments of "Whyyyyyy". It has subsided now. [emoji4]. For now. 🤞🏼

Mrsburk525 reacted to Monasmle in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
Only told my husband, and very glad I stopped there. Even if the comments aren't negative, which I'm sure a lot would be, I didn't want to hear any comments, ANY. I struggle with rewiring my mind and how it thinks about food. I struggle getting away from the diet mentality. The only way I will be successful is if this is not a diet, but a lifestyle. I have lost a lot of weight, and I hear comments and questions all the time, and it's exhausting, what diet are you on? how much do you exercise? did you know you can burn more walking stairs? have you tried weight lifting? you know, low carb is not good for you....question after question, and it stresses me out. I have a coworker that religiously watches what I eat at my desk now, and always feels the need to start a conversation about it. I can't imagine what it would be like if they knew of the surgery. In addition, I don't want people to forever see me as my surgery.
I had the same fear, of people finding out, or how to hide it. At gatherings, I can always find something remotely healthy, and stay away from stuff that's not healthy. For the first month, I really stayed away from gatherings, since I knew I couldn't eat regular food yet, and had massive head hunger. I'm 3.5 mo out, and can eat regularly, just much much less. I eat slow and while a few ladies have asked why I'm eating less, "I had a big lunch" has been enough to shut down any further conversation. I used to go to gatherings anticipating food, wondering what food I will get to eat. I now go and think about the people I'll see. It's hard to explain what that mental weight off my shoulders it is. I want to eat like a normal person, and be a normal person, not "the fat girl that had surgery", so that's why I kept it secret and I have not regretted it.
As for a good excuse to use for time off. I know a lot of people use gallbladder surgery. I said I had some issues with my colon, left if vague. If people keep asking (which only two have), I've said I really don't know much about it, it's all doctor-speak to me, they just need to clean it out. From there on, I keep reiterating, I really don't know. No one has pushed past that. Short answers and vague.
    Good luck!

Mrsburk525 reacted to NuHorizons in 5 months Sleeve to MGB post-op pic
    Hi All
Here's a brief update of my Sleeve to MGB progress. The before pic was taken in the hospital after my revision. I was 247 pounds then. The pic on the right was taken today. I weigh 187 pounds. I've lost 60 pounds since my surgery(02/10/17) and 66lbs since my pre-op diet. I think my weight loss is pretty good for a revision patient and I'm on track to finally reach my weight loss goal. I'm so happy that I got my sleeve revised!
