My girlfriend who is a pasta-holic says that the only thing that actually works for her, "fools" her Pasta love is spaghetti squash. There's about 7grams of carbs in a cup. Be careful with the lentil stuff. I once purchased lentil crackers and just a few gave me such painful gas, I couldn't leave the house!! [emoji15] I imagine that kind of gas with our pouches could be horrible!

I've done nothing but cry all day because I am having such extreme taste aversion to everything I'm allowed on my full liquid post op diet and this made me literally LOL so thank you. [emoji171]

I know this might sound awful. I had my gastric bypass on 08-01-17 and though I can fill my pouch with Protein Shakes and fluids no problems, I am so tired of the same few flavors for over a week now, I'm going insane. I have marinara sauce I plan to bring to the dietician/dr appt on Friday which I want to use when I'm allowed to eat string cheese during my next phase. I couldn't stand it anymore, I had my husband bring me the cheese and sauce and I chewed and spit out out almost a whole cheese stick. I should warn that this process proved difficult because after chewing the cheese a bit it literally like melted in my mouth and I accidentally swallowed tiny particles in the process. Am I a horrible, crazy, nut job for doing this? Probably. I just wondered if it's gotten this bad with anyone else doing their best not to cheat at all.

I like the idea of sugar free syrups to add to my Protein Shakes.
    Thanks

Could I suggest webstaurantstore.com. I ordered sugar free davinci flavored Syrup to add to my Protein shakes(Its only $5-$6 per large bottle 750 ML. I got Chai, salted caramel, pumpkin pie, toasted marshmallow, and I also used Coconut milk instead of almond milk with chocolate protein for a "Mounds" flavored shake!! Like James said use this important time and take advantage of the weight loss phase. I can't wait!! I made an awesome PB&J shake with strawberry protein, PB2 dry Peanut Butter, and almond milk (I also add two stevia packets i like mine sweet) Hope this helps.

I was allowed SF Jello as part of my fluids phase and SF popsicles. They helped with the boredom of Protein Shakes.
I found that putting in some Peppermint SF coffee Flavoring in the shakes helped change the taste. Also I used Hershey's SF chocolate Syrup to change the taste as well. Unfortunately, shakes are the best way to get in your Protein the first three months. There is no way you will be able to eat enough protein through food for at least 3-4 months.

Huh.. the chew and spit usually happens preop....
Use this as a warning about the strength of head hunger and how it impacts you. If this continues past the first month or so, you will want some counseling. No judgement coming from me.. this whole journey is TOUGH, and sometimes we may need a bit of help.
Once you move on to purees and soft foods, it should get much better
In the meantime, try making homemade broth.. that will give you a break from all the sweet shakes. liquid yogurt and kefir might be a nice change of pace too. Herbal tea comes in a ton of different flavors as well.

Chewing is a normal part of the digestive process. So many times after surgery when individuals report hunger, what they are really missing is chewing.
The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.
I found that protein shakes tasted terrible. You don't have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. I found that blending in a half a banana into my Protein Shake made it tolerable.
The weight loss phase is extremely short and then you will naturally transition into the maintenance phase. I transitioned at 7 months. So if you want to get the most out of this phase it is extremely important to follow the program guidelines.

This may be TMI and I can't even believe i'm going to open up about this but here it goes...I had gastric sleeve...I waited about 2 weeks. I put a pillow and was on my tummy...lol it was ok. The pain was not bad, but sex itself was actually painful...I was reading a lot of articles on why this could happen (regarding dryness)...our estrogen levels are out of whack, our hormones are out of whack so for me...I just felt like I was losing my virginity all over again (not to mention it had been like 3 weeks since I had sex with my boyfriend) lol. That might be TMI but I just thought as a woman you might want to know that I wasn't affected by the pain of surgery, I was affected by pain of not being able to lubricate. Last week at 3 weeks post op I tried again....it was great. lol *dying of embarrassment now*

So I've had many non surgery victories along the way but had to share this one... Forgot my bathing suit while meeting my hubby over at my parents house for a hot tub (they were out of town) and stopped in at Giant Tiger at 7:55 when they closed at 8. They had bathing suit tops and bottoms on sale for $7 each. Grabbed an XL bottom and a size 14/D top and got out of there before they closed.
    Here is comes....they fit perfectly!
Never in my life have I bought a bathing suit in the regular sizes with out trying it on and it fits!!
    Loving life

Nursesmiley reacted to blondie66 in Nausea - when will it go away?
So sorry to hear! Hopefully in a few days as your stomach calms down so will the nausea. I was on an IV for a day the Drs said they were bringing out the tough meds - had no idea what it was but stopped the nausea and then I took a pill daily for 3 months.

Try and get the Protein Shakes in I used Premier Protein ready made shakes. Don't rush solids.

I still have peppermint tea at times to help when queasy.

I prayed for you and all of us for tomorrow. I'm like you, many surgeries so not afraid of having surgery. I'm afraid of the buyers remorse people seem to have for like a month afterwards where they get emotional and regret their decision. I know it goes away, but that's a long time. Also, I'm on a lot of medicine and I'm concerned I won't be able to stand it crushed up due to nausea or gross taste, and I'm concerned the sheer volume of my meds won't allow room for anything else in my stomach. I know I'm already quite sick of Clear Liquids. I've started a vlog on youtube to document my journey, both as a personal diary and hopefully to help other people who are considering bypass or need information or possibly just need to have someone they can see taking this journey with them. If you're interested in checking it out on youtube look for Joni M. Good luck to everyone who, like me, begins their new life tomorrow.

I have a headache today too, I wonder if that's just a Clear Liquids thing. Self pay must be terribly difficult, but you could never make a better investment than on your own life. I just prayed for you that you will have a safe surgery without complications and will be successful in your journey.

Surgery is tomorrow morning! I'm so excited. I've been through a lot of surgeries, so I'm not nervous on that front. I'm more curious to what it will feel like to try to take a sip of Water, eat something, etc...and adjust to the changes. I hope everything goes smoothly for everybody!
I'll check in later this week. I'm not a big phone user. I have one, but I'm horrible with using it most the time. I'm more prone to my iPad, or more comfortable at my desk.

Man, they have you on some good stuff! Once some of the pain meds wear off, you may be a tad more uncomfortable, but it sounds like you are doing stellar!! Congrats on getting to the other side (in a good way!).
