    no second fill!

Hi all. I went for my second fill this past wednesday and to my surprise the doctor said they did not want to give me a fill, concerned that I would be too tight. Here is some history: Starting Weight--262 Surgery -- May 12th First Fill--Jul 2nd Current Weight --224 Weight Lost after first fill -- 12 lbs. Has this happened to anyone else? They wanted me to wait 2 months until my next appt., but I was not comfortable with that so I am going back in 5 weeks instead to see where I am at. I don't feel hungry, except the week before my cycle where I crave like crazy!!! But hopefully starting the pill again and getting back on a normal cycle will curb alot of that. Thankfully I can recognize it is only related to my cycle..other than that I am usually full from my meals and only have snacks (healthy ones) on occasion. So tell me your take on this...

    no second fill!

thanks for all the positive feedback! my doctor automatically scheduled the appt. for me. i think even if i was not going in for a fill they would just schedule a follow-up to keep tabs on me since it is still so early on. and i am gad for that cause i can talk to them about any concerns while on this journey. i may not even get a fill in the next visit but since appts. can be hard to come by (he only does fills one day a weeK) its nice to know i have it scheduled should i need it. time will tell with all of this i guess. i am being patient and all in all think it is coming off the way it should thus far. its one heck of a journey and the support here is so great! i will keep ya'll posted on the next appt.

    Long Term Effects

it is for life. we are choosing new habits for ourselves and that commitment should be a forever thing. i think all our habits with eating are very different though and i guess it all depends. i can say that soda is a no-no as my doc says it can have a negative affect on my band and i dont miss it much. i have been banded two and a half months now and am down 35 lbs.....as far as bread, my nutrionist says it is okay to do a slice of toasted wheat bread a week and that seems to satisfy my craving. i can really even get it all down anyways. but these are healthy changes and you really get used to it as you see the results. it is so worth it!! i only wish i did it sooner! best of luck!

How long was your liquid phase post op?

mine was 2 and a half weeks cause my doctor was away. it does suck and when you think about the stages and the next one being pureed (if that is what your doc does) you think its so gross until you get there...then baby food seems to taste yummy!!! best of luck--hang in there!
  5. i la-la-la-la-la-loooooove my band!! i will admit in the first two weeks or so i was like "what the hell did i do to myself?!!?". but now, about 2 months later i love it!! i have lost 35 lbs. and have 80 more to go and i love this journey. i am thankful i have done it before any serious medical issues and have a healthy future ahead of me with my 2 girls and hubby!!! lap band rules!!!

What do you do when you keep snacking?

i think we all go through a snacking phase. i know i have mine once a month when i am close to my cycle. what i try to do is just have a smaller than my already small meal and have more of them throughout the day. and snack to what my craving is. maybe its peanut butter and something sweet so i dip a nice apple in it...or maybe its fish and i indulge on shrimp cocktail all day long..two here, two there. then i feel like i satisfied my craving. the thing is --snacking to me is okay and long as its not over excessive and it has to be healthy!

    Size of your band??

I just went in for my first fill and was curious as to the size of my band and asked my doctor. He said the Realize Band (which is the one I have) is a "one size fits all type of band. Also, just an added note, he said the ports are much deeper in the skin so more comfortable. While I have nothing to compare it to, I have to say my port is really unoticable so thats a plus!

    Watermelon????

I am almost two months post-opt and during my mushie stage watermelon was one of my favorites...it practically melts in your mouth and it is so watery, but you still have to chew. It was great!!

    Still not losing weight !!!

have you spoken to your doctor? what is their take on this/
  12. I def. think it is normal. What I was eating before was wayyyyyyy over!! It amazes me now when I see what I once could have ate. How did I get that all in my body? And remember, our stomach is now that of a "normal weight" person so we feel satisfied with what seems like so little. As far as weight loss....I see that when I do not exercise I stay at a steady so lack of the amount of calories needed with no exercise makes me just maintain. But we are all different.

    Need help making a decision!

With regard to no health issues, just add the word "yet" to it. I am 32..starting weight was 262 and I am 5'3". I had a high BMI and no other health conditions. You should sit and think about your eating lifestyle. That is how I made my decision. I took my weight and looked at myself in say 10 years and for each year added about 5 lbs. That seemed to be accurate for me. Another 50 lbs. by the time I would be 42 was not something I wanted to see. I was already wearing a size 22! That was out of control for me and I knew I had to make a change cause soon my health conditions were going to change if I gained more weight. I have been banded for a month now and lost 25 lbs...still waiting for my first fill. It has been the best thing in my whole life and now when I look down the road 10 years from now, I am happy, healthy, and know I will see 10 more after that! Best of luck to you! It is a big step--but the best one!

    Lifting a baby post-op

well, i think it all depends. we all recover at a different pace. i have a one year old who weighs about 20 lbs. and my husband stayed home for the week to care for her and our 8 yr. old. I went back to work the second week and I was lifting her but not advised to, just did not have a choice. Could only get a week off :cursing: Under my doctors advisement it was to not lift anything over 5 lbs for 2 weeks. It was a bit of a strain for me, but not to bad. I would have taken a second week to not lift her if I could have though. Best of luck--i know its tough not being able to lift and care for our babies!!! But it is soooooo worth it!!!

    Food Question

i don't recall the reasoning behind it, possibly digestion, but my dr. says to not try salads until about 3-4 months out. i attempted a piece of lettuce and a thinly sliced tomato with a slice of chicken breast and it went down okay, but of course i have not had my fill yet...i guess all reccomendations are different.

Did you have to pay for it?

i guess with all insurances and coverage it is different. i would inquire with yours. my only out of pcket expense was my consulation with the nutritionist and a small co-pay the day of the surgery...in total only $100 in costs to me.

okay--so that was thankfully just a big as my husband got it that night and it passed by today--so just some 24 hr thing that the kids prob brought home! i can get food in that will stay in now!! had my first post op check up today and lost 21 lbs!!! whooohooo...first fill is scheduled for july 2nd!! released to purees today!! finally no more full liquids!!!
  21. Hey everyone. Last night I tried one of those greek yogurts. While it was really flavorful, I think it is too thick for this stage. So, not to be gross, but no sooner did I finish it but I was in the bathroom with the poops all night. I could not even go to work today because I was in there every ten minutes. I feel like I have to yak, but can't and I can't get anything but Water down only to have it come out. I go for my first follow up tomorrow so I will mention it to my doc, but curious if this a result of the yogurt? I have done the Dannons (no sugar) ones and they went down okay...could this just be a stomach bug or did the yogurt do it to me?? I hope it ends soon! I gotta get back to work tomorrow!!!
  22. yup--mine has about the sam plan. it is fustrating, especially during the full liquid stage but they have their reasons so I am doing it. i was banded 5/12--it gets easier with each passing day.
  23. boy can i relate to that! my doc asked me to stop taking it at least 2 weeks prior to surgery..but i didn't want to have it the day of surgery so i stopped a bit before. well, we all know that stopping the bcp can throw everything off track and low and behold i had my cycle when i went into surgery...oh what fun!!!
  24. i was banded may 12th and i have experienced some hair loss..not like chunks of hair, but it is thinnning. this was one thing i did not mind as i have a THICK head of curly hair, so i could afford it!! all in all it is mild and its going to grow back of course!

    5 days post-op..weak and tired..normal???

your energy will come back. i spent my first week home and slept like 3 times a day and was just hanging around the house in my jammies. sometimes you have to give yourself that extra push to get going to get back in the swing of things. i am 2 weeks post-op and went back to work the second week. while still a bit tired, my energy levels came back slowly but surely. keep on track with eating right cuase it will help your energy! you'll get there!
