Just checking in. Surgery was August 25. I was 202 at surgery, now 174. It's been slow going. Im on solid foods now, and working out, hoping to kick up the weight loss. I'd love to get rid of my tummy pooch! I hate it!! Anyway, I'm doing good, hope the rest of you are too!

    8/25/17 sleeve updates

My surgery was 8/25. I was 202 on surgery date, and have lost about 17 lbs so far. I'm concerned that I'm not losing fast enough.I start pureed foods on 9/23. Maybe I'm not getting enough water. I don't know. I start back to work on 9/25. I know I'll be getting a lot more movement then, and that will help speed things up.

My period was August 1-7, I got my IUD implanted at that point. Then I was okay until the 20th of August, when it started again. Surgery was the 25th. I thought at that time that it was just about over, but it hasn't ever ended. I'm now 3 weeks post op, and still having my period. Sometimes it's red, and watery, sometimes just a little spotty, I'd just like it to be over. I was thinking that I may be having worse than usual because of the heparin was injected with to keep me clot free during the couple days I was in hospital. I'm ready to be done. It's just a hassle, and I feel like a poorly wrapped roast in the meat department. ICK!! I feel your pain, and frustration ! Hang in there!
  4. I'm not a big banana fan either, but a friend gave me 2 of the banana cream, and rather than waste it, this made it not as ick to me. Chocolate is my favorite so far, and I think I'm going to try the Jello Sugar-free cheesecake flavor with the vanilla. That ought to be good : )
  5. On making protein pudding...I buy whatever sugar free flavor of store brand, or Jello brand pudding I like. Then I add the protein shake instead of milk, to the instant mix. A small box takes 2 cups of milk, so I use a full premier protein, and then the balance in non-fat milk, whisk it up, pop it into a container and into fridge for atleast 10 min. Overnight is better, as it gives a smoother texture. I've done Choc pudding with choc protein, vanilla pudding with banana cream protein, and vanilla with vanilla pudding I love the chocolate, and a little serving works wonders...YUM!
  6. I don't know if you are a Costco member, but I buy mine there, in the 18 pack. I usually buy Chocolate and Vanilla. It's about $25 for the 18, compared to about $8 for 4 here, in Seattle area, so a better deal. You can also use them to make sugar free jello pudding and such, so I really like them.

    Never ending period

HI ladies, I'm just checking in....my period is driving me crazy. It started July 31, then I got my IUD on August 1. Period ended about 7th. Started very light spotting around the 20th. Got heavier with darker flow, and I thought it was about over when I had my surgery on Aug 25. It got lighter again, and just when I thought it was gone, it was back, like it had never happened. It's been going on ever since. I don't know when this will ever end!!! If this is TMI, I'm sorry. I'm going to my post-op appt tomorrow and will ask my surgeon if he knows what's going on.

    Never ending period

I'm 45, will be 46 December 12. I'm just sick of this darn period!! LOL
  9. Hello Citizens of  WWWL ! (Wonderful World of Weighing Less )

I just wanted to say HI. Today is probably the first day I've felt really emotionally powerful and happy since my surgery on 8/25. I feel like I'm finally finding my way out of one of those labyrinth mazes (outdoor, made of tall hedges, or a corn maze) I stepped into the maze on the 25th, and have been stumbling around running into deadends, and cut offs, and switchbacks with how much to eat or drink, how much exercise, will this $%&*# period ever end, etc.  Today I woke up and started my morning routine of Omeprazole and multivitamin, 3 oz of protein shake, and in a couple of hours, my calcium chew.

I feel like, except for my apparently never ending menstrual cycle of annoyance, life is finding an equilibrium. I can see a little further today! I wish you all a blessed day, and hope that you will find joy in whatever you choose to do!

    Hugs,

    That time of the month…

I too was concerned about this. I got an IUD implanted August 1, because dr said that the pill won't work after surgery. So, I was on my period then. That last a week. Then a week and half without period. Then about the 18th, it started again. I figured when I went in on the 25 for my surgery, it was just about over. Nope...came home and it's intensified, and still here!!! ANNOYING!!! I've been a little crampy, but mainly just annoyed!
  11. Walter, I've been thinking about you. I'm so glad you are doing well. I understand about the sore abs. It will get better fairly quick! Way to go!!! You totally have this under control!!!

  12. I'm just over a week out, but if you can find no takers, let me know. Thanks in advance!
  13. My surgeon and dietitian both recommended Bariatric Advantage products. I have 500mg Calcium Chews and a multi vitamin chewable. I also take BIotin, and omeprazole daily. I really like the products so far. They are a little pricey but nothing like yours. I am fully out of pocket for mine, as insurance will cover nothing it sees as OTC. https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/bariatric-advantage Good luck!!! I guess I should be taking a priobiotic daily as well.

    A whole new life

I'm a week out today! I haven't eaten solids in 9 days. I feel like the world is going on without me. My entire old life is null and void at this point. I'm off work for a month due to healing and my lovely new liquids only diet. All my friends work. My unemployed roommate/bf goes on the same as always, eating everything in sight, and acting like it's no big deal. I feel like I can't go out with friends because I don't fit in their social life anymore. I can't go out for a bite, because I can't eat. I can't go shopping because I'm shrinking --it's a good thing. I'm not ready to walk miles like I used to. I feel so alone. NO one here understands. I don't know what I thought was going to happen after surgery, but at this moment I feel like I'm trapped on my own island. LIke Tom Hanks in Castaway. Except no WIlson!! I know I'm probably being a whiner now, I apologize for anyone I offend. I know I did this to myself. I get reminded constantly by bf whenever I say anything. I guess I need to find some new hobbies, with new people.Nothing to do with food, or shopping. I don't know what to do. Has anyone else felt like this? Just got back from Walmart with him-for me-Dannon Oikos non-fat Greek Yogurt, plain. For him, pecan pie, frozen burrito, jug of juice, bottle of wine, piece of bbq pork roast. Last night we watched the Seahawks Game. Him-15 chicken wings, popcorn, beer, ice cream. For me 1/2 cup of homemade eggdrop soup, and 1/4 cup protein pudding. I think I just need to go away!!

    A whole new life

I have a question, and I'm having trouble finding the answer, but since people have the monthly loss thing, and tickers that seem to get updated, how do you update them? I'd like to update mine. I'm now 195, down from 198 a couple of days ago.

    A whole new life

Thanks very much to all of you. I was sitting here in tears, feeling so lonesome. Like I didn't fit in anywhere. You ladies helped me more than you know. You helped me to know that I'm not crazy!! I felt like I was! I wonder if Wilson would taste better than the broth at the hospital? I bet he would.

Two days of clears is AWFUL

Still praying for you. By now, you are probably almost done with surgery. I'm so proud of you!!! GO Walter!!!

Two days of clears is AWFUL

I was scared too. Before you know it, it will be over. You'll be waking up in recovery. Just to relax you, I'm gonna tell you what I think is a funny story about my experience. Background-I'm a pharmacy technician. I am routinely asked to work on prescriptions for out of town Kaiser Permanente visitors. They show up to my pharmacy and expect me to have their stuff ready quick, but it's a long drawn out process to transfer their orders from their home pharmacy to mine, and get the insurance straightened out and such. Hawaii is a place we see several from. Morning of surgery, I'm in the pre-op, and anesthesiologist is seeing me, asking me to pick a place I'd like to visit for a couple of hours. I've never been to Hawaii, so that's my destination. He puts the mask on my face, and the next thing I know, I'm coming to, in post-op...First words out of my mouth were to tell him that I finally had the prescriptions ready for those Hawaiian people. He could call them to pick them up anytime...LOL So crazy. I was working during surgery!!! Anyway, relax, a whole new journey is just around the corner. You are going to do great! I'll pray for you, and Aloha!!!

Two days of clears is AWFUL

Good luck on your surgery! You are going to do great! Hang in there. I'm only 5 days out, but I can tell a difference in how I feel already, since it' happened. Just take it slow and easy. Nice part is since our tummy is smaller, you're not as hungry, so you don't need to eat all the time, and thank God for that, because the choices post-op are pretty limited at first.

Two days of clears is AWFUL

Good luck. I know it's hard. I had clear liquids for one day before surgery, then 2 days after, now on full liquids for a month. OMG, all I can think about is food. I tell you, every tv ad, tv show, movie, magazine, is all about food. I'm feeling the challenge. The hospital nearly wrecked me on chicken broth. God, I don't know what they served...vile swill. It was so bad, that I thought my tastebuds had changed, as some had said they would. I had my mom take a taste, so I'd know for sure, and when she nearly gagged, I knew the truth. Now, I can hardly stand the thought of chicken broth. I've got to get over this. I have 25 days to go on liquids. So good luck, may the Gods of chicken broth smile on you, and know that you are strong enough to do this.... : )
  21. Well, here I am, nearly 5 days out. I'm still super tired, nauseated, in pain, and ready to feel better. I considered it a success today when I ate low-fat cream of chicken soup, strained of all the bits (Probably the first time I've been happy that Campbell's has cheaped-out and put the equivalent of a thumbtack size chunk of chicken in the whole can. Easier to strain!) I ate 1/2 cup made with water, a Tblsp of Nonfat dry milk  powder, and after it cooked I stirred in some unflavored protein powder. A hot dinner

Wondering how does anyone else deal with taking care of family? I still needed to cook dinner for my honey. He got a turkey burger, baked potato, and mixed veggies. This was the first time I've cooked for him post-op. So hard not to be able to taste anything, and still wanting to....

Anyway, I took my calcium chew today,  my multivitamin, my ondansetron, my omeprazole, my oxycodone, my docusate sodium, and ate a sugar free pudding cup, the soup, and about 1/2 cup of water, and took all day to drink a protein shake.

Well, I figure I need to cook us dinner right now anyway...so I make enough that we can have one meal and then the extra I put in vacuum packs and in the freezer they go! She is grateful and appreciative that I care enough to do it in advance...I like to cook anyway, but I'm not stepping foot in the kitchen in the weeks after my surgery.

Oh my goodness, hang in there! I forgot to look to see if you had the sleeve or another surgery. I cant imagine cooking for someone and feeling so ill yet starving also. Luckily, my family is used to me not cooking like I used before I had a full time + job. We only have two kids that live at home now. My older son came home on the deployment last time with home cooked food on his mind and he said, "Man, I am glad I was with the generation that got dinner every night" bless his heart! I still make an effort to cook for him when he is home on leave. I still get some long faces if they realize I am not cooking dinner some nights. The two seventeen year olds and my hubby know the drill now. They had to be re-trained, though. I still cook on the weekends and enjoy cooking for my family but I just dont have the time like I used to. Plus I can't really eat in the evnings ever since I had my gallbladder out because I get so miserable bloated (I know that is odd, you would think I would have lost weight but NOPE - I just eat my heavy meal in the mornings and taper off onto lighter foods during the day. Once in awhile I can watch them eat or go out to dinner and watch everyone else eat and that became easier over time after I forced myself to do it. Sometimes I have to mentally prepare myself and say "Ok, you can't eat this because you will regret it later." However, the difference is that you really are hungry and hardly able to get much down so I just cant imagine feeling nauseated and hungry but not hungry at the same time and cooking for someone else. It is funny how we figure out how so much love and socialization goes into food until we are caught at a point when we can't do it anymore.

I hope you feel better soon and I bet you will get to the point that you can still cook for your love, give yourself some time.

I see we are both short girls. :)

Before surgery earlier this week Monday 8/28, I made a roast with potatoes amd veggies in the crockpot so that the family would have leftovers for at least two days while I was in the hospital. Then I make chicken breast with cream of chicken soup in the crock pot. I strained the soup and put some away for myself. I left it up to them to decide what veggies they wanted. That lasted the rest of the week. They family is on their own today. Tomorrow i will make something that will last another few days, again probably in the crockpot like lasagna. It's going to be like this until I feel strong enough to cook without picking. Or when I am able to introduce solids.

  22. Hello everyone! My surgery was August 25. There were no complications and I'm excited to be home. The big challenge for me so far has been burning and stinging on my abdominal skin. Tender to the touch and then it feels like it's on fire. Anyone else experience this? I'm finding getting up and down to be a huge challenge, as well as trying to turn over in bed. I'm always afraid my staples will come popping out of the incisions. I was given oxycodone 5 mg for at home, but during the stay I had gabapentin (neurontin) liquid. This stuff was great. I didn't even know I had nerve pain until my last dose of it wore off, and the oxycodone just does nothing for that pain. Hope everyone else is doing great. I weight 12 lbs more than I did before surgery. I've heard it will come off quick in next few days, but ick!!!!
  23. BunneyGirl

    Nerve pain

I'm really trying too. Anything larger than small sips seems to make me burp. I have not had much gas from other end, some but not a lot. I haven't taken the omeprazole. Im barely drinking anything. thanks for sharing your experiences. Good luck on your journey
  24. BunneyGirl

    Tomorrow!!!!

Congrats on surgery! I too have mine tomorrow. I check in at 5:20, and surgery around 7:30. I'm nervous, I'm excited. I've been on full liquid diet today, and have been trying to prepare my home and hospital bag. I've found that Trader Joe's Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup with a little non-fat plain yogurt mixed in for protein tastes pretty good. And after nothing but sweet protein shakes all day feels like I'm actually eating. Good luck to both of my fellow patients as we begin this beatiful journey to better health!
  25. I'm getting even more excited for my surgery. I find myself full of questions about the bag for the hospital, what I should pack it in, etc. I was considering a backpack that I usually use when I go to the gym. I figured I'd put together my toiletries bag with toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush, maybe a hair tie or two, my contact lens case and solution, my eyeglass case and deodorant, and possibly some cosmetics. I've heard that when you look better, you feel better. I also thought this bag may have room for my kindle, and phone with chargers, and a small power strip. I don't want to be searching for outlets. I don't know if I'll have time to enjoy any of this, but I don't want to be bored if I can't sleep. I'm not sure what I should pack to wear home. I was thinking a trip through my local thrift store or Walmart might help me out. Drawstring pants? A loose top? what kind of shoes? It's been terribly hot and dry here in Seattle, and my surgery is Aug 25. What did you pack, or wish you would have? I am figuring on a 2 night stay at a hospital about an hour from home, in traffic.
