I too started with a him of 40 and even when I checked in at the hospital on surgery day the intake person said I wasn't big enough for surgery. I think it's their way of a compliment (?) Bit it is the comorbidities that make the surgery essential to our success. I kept creeping up in weight and weighed more than I ever have. I struggled with my weight my whole life. I was tired of being the biggest person in the room and then the sleep apnea and diabetes made me qualify with a zero copay in my insurance! So far I am 2.5 weeks out from surgery and have lost 22 pounds. I am feeling better and my diabetes has been under control.

I had my gastrologist and my surgeon confer because I had really bad GERD, had Barrett's, which is pre-cancer cells (which I had been treated for and have been clean of for three years). In addition, I had a hiatal hernia. We weighed all the options and the risks. My surgeon recommended the bypass, which I would not have done. Why? A good friend had a bypass and she constantly dumps, is as pale as a ghost, 80% of her hair has fallen out and she just looks sickly all the time. My gastrologist cleared me for the sleeve. The issue with the sleeve and esophageal cancer is one way to remove the cancer is they have to cut out the cancerous portion and pull up the stomach to meet the healthy esophagus. Since they remove a lot of your stomach, there won't be enough stomach to pull up. Someone may think I'm crazy for having the procedure done, but I have committed to yearly scoping and to stay away from the triggers.
Not everyone develops GERD who has the gastric sleeve. You just have to be diligent and follow your surgeon's plan - most have you taking something for the acid for the first 3-6 month. At my six month check up they told me to stop taking my ppi. I'll admit, I was terrified. Before surgery if I didn't take it I couldn't even drink Water. I weaned myself off of it and I have had zero problems and have never felt better.
I do believe a lot of it had to do with my diet change - no eating until I'm stuffed, minimal alcohol, no diet cokes, no chocolate or sweets, no fried foods, minimal spicy foods. Also, I quit eating after 7:00 p.m. Of course the huge weight loss helps a lot too.
I only told one friend about the surgery. Has my life changed? Absolutely! My entertainment isn't going out eating and drinking anymore. I thought I would be sad about it but I have found other things to do now. Hiking, biking, gym, kayaking, which are way more fun than eating and drinking and you feel good after doing them.
Is this surgery worth it?!?!?!? A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y! My regret, as many others will say, is I didn't do it sooner.

I was just sleeved 8 days ago, it has been hard but I have no regrets yet.
Your friend that is afraid of losing you as a drinking buddy doesn't sound like a very good friend.
I am surprised your parents don't support you, would they rather see you unhappy and obese?
It basically comes down to what you want to do.
Don't let other people's selfish reasons deter you from getting it.

You would be able to enjoy life way more at a healthy weight and will undoubtedly live longer. I am 55 and want to be able to play with my future grand kids and travel the world. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as overweight as I was/am. The heat of the Dominican Republic was awful on me last month. If we exercise and use moisturizers some of the extra skin will tighten. There may still be issues but that can be corrected with plastic surgery if it's really that bad.
To me it wasn't a choice. I wanted to be healthy!

This week I packed a lunch box with a variety of items for the week- string cheese, cheddar jack , plum, hard boiled eggs, grapes $ Protein Bars & a Protein shake
I leave it in the fridge at work and eat from it each day. Yesterday my boss gave me a peach so I ate that, grapes and a cheese stick for lunch. It's not super planned or measured but it's been working for me.

Also, PS - weight loss is 80% in the kitchen and 20% in the gym. MANY, many people lose weight without ever setting foot in a gym. Do I suggest that? Nope - working out is great for your mental health, burning a few extra calories, and for tightening and toning. But will it make or break your weight loss? Nope. Stick to your plan in the kitchen, and I promise - a few days off from the gym won't bring weight gain.

When you're in active weight loss phase, the most important thing you can do during a stall is change it up. I agree with both other suggestions - it seems counter intuitive, but eat more. Add a few extra calories. And I wouldn't say stop working out entirely, but definitely back off from it a few days per week. "Shock" your body out of your routine, so to speak. It will hopefully get the scale moving again. Sometimes we push our bodies so hard during weight loss, and stalling is the only way they have to tell us "back off, you're killing me!" Good luck!

I have those 4 oz. containers for my lunch at work. I made a sort of salad with canned chx breast, cottage cheese, a dab of Dijon mustard, and canned, drained, and rinsed small white Beans. A little seasoning and divided into my containers it was low cal, tasty, and protein-ful.
I'm getting more creative all the time with my high Protein foods. My program also offers a free bariatric cooking class which I am looking forward to.

Sit on your butt for a couple of days to give your body a rest. Eat a little more than normal - like 100 calories more per day then get back on your workout schedule. I read the book by the extreme weight loss guy, can't remember his name- he said sometimes you need to take a break from the rigor.

When I eat "normal" food it seems to trigger me wanting to munch all day! I had a tiny salad for lunch at work with grilled chicken. I had enough Protein yesterday but just kept wanting to eat. Seems when I work in the office I just want to nibble all day. Does anyone else experience this? What do you do to avoid it? I ate 1000 calories yesterday- just because I let myself eat extra things. Normally I'm at around 600.

Im also 3 months out. I hit a stall a few weeks ago but started losing steadily again. I'm going to be pretty blunt- are you having regular bowl movements? Seemed like I wasn't and the. I got more regular and now I'm dropping 2-4 pounds a week again. I also consume 700-850 cal per day but I have been eating some not so good carbs lately in small amounts. I read on this site that if you stop losing add another 100 calories and it should kick start you. It worked for me. A few crackers with Peanut Butter or something like that. Might help. Keep us posted.

I've heard all of those reasons. For me, having taken a drink too early by mistake, it made me sick. It almost immediately came back up. So, I think to pause after eating is also about avoiding the discomfort.

Everything was fine until last week. I hit my lowest weight since surgery at 204.4. And I began a new workout schedule. I run 1 mile and do light weights 3x a week with intentions to move to 5x before the end of the month. Here comes Thursday and I gained 2 lbs. But as of today, I am at 209. I don't feel bloated and my clothing doesn't feel tight. I cannot figure out what is wrong. I am a little over three months out. On average I consume about 700 calories a day (I have been trying to force down more but have been unsuccessful). I eat almost exclusively Protein with some vegetables (zucchini and broccoli). Occasionally I will have bread of some sort ( as in in these 3 months I have had it only 3 times because it makes me feel terrible). Any advice on how to start dropping again or if anyone has suggestions for what the reason for the gain to be?

I think it's called antigall. I have to take it for three months twice a day after surgery. He has all his patients do it and it drops the chance of gallbladder issues down to 10% from 35% after surgery they say.
