    Hey guys!

I downloaded this app not expecting all these posts! Then I found this thread and figured why not share my story so far.

I was sleeved on November 1
It was a rough week before this, I had so much anxiety. I would cry at random because i was so scared being that I've never had an operation, let alone broken a bone before. I cried all the way to the OR and all I here is my mom tell the surgeon "you take care of my baby", now I'm bawling, thanks mom. Once in the OR the doctors introduce themselves and promised I'd be ok and they that they were going to give me something to feel better, they knocked me out, lol.

Then, waking up. From what I remember I was woken up after surgery, "kassandra kassandra wake up the surgery is over" and I was wheeled into recovery. There I was like "what the hell did I just do" "why did I do this". Then my parents walk in and I started crying again, lol. I was only in recovery for about 30 minutes I would say then wheeled into my room.

MY MOUTH WAS SO DRY, of course still no fluids allowed, not until the next day after the leak test is conducted. So, I was given some mouth swabs in ice, heaven. I was up within the hour, my mom asked if I wanted to try to walk, so I tried. Walked out my room into the hall and then some and came back. The pain wasn't so bad but they had given me one of those clicky buttons that would administer my pain medication, dilaudid. Wow do I wish someone would have told me dilaudid was going to intensify my nausea. Weird fact: I had diarrhea on this day.

That night, was rough, I couldn't sleep at all. They RN on call even put Benadryl in my IV. Still awake. The nausea got really bad. I got up from my bed, unplugged the IV machine from the wall and went into the bathroom. I turned the faucet on and started gagging and dry heaving over the sink. Nothing came out but I guess my body needed some sort of release. This whole time I was thinking to myself if I was going to pop and internal staple and die. But once I was done I wet my face and waddle right back into bed.

Next day, I felt more sore than pain and all I kept thinking about was lemon Jello. Oh and! So many people come into your room at night so be prepared for having your BP checked like 3 times at night or having either your surgeons team at 5 am to see how your doing.

So I went down for leak test. I was handed a small cup of this clear liquid, not the best tasting thing, and you are told to sip as this camera is looking through your body to your insides.

Leak test over! Now where's my lemon jello?! Lol
Back to my room I go, next? I get my catheter removed, wasn't too bad. Then my tray of "Bariatric Phase 1" things comes in. Included was LEMON JELLO, lol, a sugar free lemon icy, 8oz bottle of Water, sf cranberry juice, chicken broth, tea and unsweetened ice tea. All that fuss about this jello and I couldn't even keep it on my tongue, so I went for the icy and water. 1 oz every 15 minutes. At this point I was more paranoid of hurting myself and my pouch I didn't want to over do it and I was still nauseous at this point. I could've went home this day but I was kept another day for observation because of it.

The next day, still nauseous was I was allowed to go home finally! I was discharged right before lunch. I was sent home with some pain medication and some nausea pills that dissolve on your tongue.

So now I'm home, full clear
Liquid diet until phase 2 and I couldn't be anymore exited for some bland mashed potatoes.

I find the shakes to be too thick for my pallet so I added about 4 ounces of unsweetened original or vanilla almond milk to mine too thin it up and make it easier to get down.

You can do this! I know it seems difficult. But just get through today. Keep hydrated. Drink your Water. Each day is a new day. So just keep doing one day at a time.

    Good luck!

I too have been all over YouTube and a few other websites getting insight and as much information I could find to make my decision on the rest of my life. I choose this because I know in my heart it is something that will help me help myself.

The Premier Protein shakes are good. I am on my last day of them then Clear Liquids all day tomorrow and surgery Wednesday the 8th. The hardest part is the first 2-3 days after that it get easier. At the moment i have no urge for regular food.

You can do this! It's truly the definition of mind over matter. When I was just a few days into my liquid only diet, I thought about the reason we have to do it. My Dr. wants my liver as small as possible so it's easier to get to the stomach. I definitely want to make his life easier when he's operating on me! This thought process really helped me through. I'm 11 days in and I can say it gets easier! Just take it one day at a time oh and get the caramel Premier Protein Shakes - they're heaven!

Good luck to all three new people just starting your pre-op diet for Nov surgery. Just remember, you only need to survive one day at a time.

what are your other apps? I'm pretty much open to anything that will help. I use my fitness pal to log food. That one is helpful because it has the bar code scanner and eventually remembers your favorites. Shouldn't be too hard when I'm 3.5 weeks on liquids hahahaha

Tools are excellent and useful.. I have many I use. It's better to have many than none at all and think "I can do this I don't need help" That's what gets us in trouble.

I have an app called Water Drink Reminder that I started using a few months ago to try and remind myself to sip. I'm a gulper too. It's difficult, sometimes I forget and I have to stop myself.
Good luck to you on Wednesday. May you too have a speedy and successful recovery.

Haha, I hear you. I am going to try just liquids starting tomorrow because I’m worried about my liver being too large. I am only taking a week off from work and hope I’m able to function. If I need to take more time, I can though. Thank goodness for these boards, reading everything helps a lot.

I get sleeved in 2 days, 11/8. I was not nervous at all but starting to be. I'm a planner and I keep going over my planning, my "recipes" to get in enough Protein etc. I'm concerned about drinking enough Water. It's not that I can't or don't already (I typically drink anywhere from 80-100 ozs day now) but I drink in gulps. Like a cup or more at a time. Then an hr or so and another huge gulp. BECAUSE OF WORK. It's so intense and I could be involved in something and just ignore everything else. I've tried to sip sip thru the day and so far have failed. I have a week off of work after my surgery and I'm hoping to "learn" the sip every few mins process. So that when I go back, I'll have that under my belt so to speak. There is an app called HY that I'm hoping will help me. I've set it up to remind me every 15 mins. I just need to NOT IGNORE IT!!! The nurse that is in charge of me getting to surgical point and afterward told me that any readmits are due to dehydration esp in the first week or so. We are getting IV hydration in hospital, so once released, it's all up to us. So that's my fear, I'm definitely NOT going to be a readmit because of hydration!!

Jeez those pain meds in hospital are amazing. They prescribed me Oxy as well but I picked up sugar free liquid Tylenol and if I can help it, that's all I'm taking. They told me that energy would be low. We are on very low calories so body is dialing it back so we "survive". I've heard that after a week or so, energy levels will pick up and I guess the more Protein we get in, the better for healing and energy. good luck!!!

My surgery was Nov 1 and I can drink about 2-3 ounces in a couple minutes and then wait 10-15 minutes and drink another 2-3 ounces. liquid moves through me fast. However, with that said, I tend to forget to take drinks so I sometimes go 2-3 hours without taking a drink. I was averaging about 40 ounces a day (shakes, Water, broth combined) but I think yesterday I got up to 64 ozs because my husband was home reminding me to sip sip sip all day.

Hi everyone! I just got my sleeve on Nov. 2nd. The first day was really hard but 72 hours post op I am feeling much better. I am struggling to get 64 ounces of fluids. They are having me take 1 oz every fifteen minutes. Have any of you tried to take more than 1 oz at a time? I did 3 onces and felt fine but I don't want to push it. Also, my doctor just had me on Clear Liquids for 48 hours and now I am on Protein Shakes which I am tolerating well.

I am glad I am not the only one. I feel the same way. Some people on MFP were discouraging someone yesterday, and told her to come here. She made me think about why I am so sure. I truly believe it is because I have spent so much time preparing, mostly by absorbing information from those who have been through it and the doctors who have witnessed it all.

I know about bad knees. I walk with a walker now because I'm afraid I'm going to fall down. I know my weight is affecting that. I'm hoping that this journey will help with that and a few other issues along the way.
