kcvasquez got a reaction from tankheadmommy in Got my date Dec 5th!!!!
I had mine done the 5th too! They required a 2 night stay which annoyed me but there wasn’t anything I could do about it so I just sucked it up. My worst day so far was yesterday, a small headache, lots of nausea and just plain felt crappy. Today is so much better! I was able to get in 40oz of Water in yesterday (after leaving the hospital at 1pm) and already at 30oz today so I’m happy that’s going well too!

Make sure you are getting all your Water. Sounds like you are dehydrated. Also, did you kick your caffeine habit before you had surgery? (if you had one)

So I’m almost 15 hours post op and feeling amazing, very little pain or nausea. I know they’ve been pumping me full of things to help all of that but I am wondering what was everyone’s worst day in the few days following surgery? I’m getting nervous because I do feel so well and wondering if/when that will change! I know everyone recovers differently but in general I’m just wondering what the worst day was for others?

low carb, yes - good and sustainable.
Keto? NO. do not start with that. unsustainable, unnecessary, and damaging in the long run.
i know you are in ketosis now, largely bc of the sharp calorie decline and your body utilizing so much stored fat for energy. but seriously do not start with the eating 80% fat thing. not because fat is bad for you, it’s not, but because you should not begin ANY eating plan that you can’t sustain for the rest of your life. because guess what happens when you get off of it. yep, weight gain regain.
i follow a generally low-carb (under 50g carbs per day), whole foods diet. kinda paleo, kinda Mediterranean, but always REAL food. makes it all quite simple.

Your diet will transition as you approach maintenance phase. You will be adding healthy carbs to slow/stop your weight loss.
Maintaining is a balance. (I'm three years out) If I choose to indulge in dessert carbs sugar etc. I will see a gain on the scale. I put more time in at the gym. If I have a larger gain I go back to the bariatric basics to get the scale to move.
Side note: I also distance run. Training and running I can't eat like a bariatric patient. I eat like an athlete. My calories and carbs are increased with healthy foods. A smaller stomach means eating several small meals to reach my new calories Protein and carb goals.. Once running season is over...Back to lower maintenance calories.

Totally agree with Amburmist. Speaking for myself, I have fruit, but try to stick with a low carb diet most of the time. I had WLS in 2011. I make bread/pasta substitutions whenever possible. Going out can be a challenge, but I don't beat myself up over eating carbs because I know that the portion size is not going to cause much damage.

Yes, u will eventually be adding back most things, including carbs. Just at the beginning and then for the first 6 months to a year postop, u wanna lose as much weight as possible during this "honeymoon phase" while ur body figures out its new inner workings and becomes efficient again. My doc said that right now (the first 6 months to a year post op), our bodies arent really efficient with our new inner workings, so weight is more likely to come off faster. So take advantage of that and stay on diets that allow faster weight loss, like a low carb type diet.

I felt great week 1. Week 2 -3 I got super dehydrated and felt like death. Don't wait to call your dr like I did. If I had stayed hydrated I think I would have been easy recovery

Good luck to you! Your journey has officially begun!

Hmm if I have to say would be day 5 or 6 I have this pain near my boobs, from what I’ve read is muscle pain.. is crazy .. sometimes I can’t move left or right . If I cough, laugh or any sudden movement to my chest area is painful. I still have it, I’m 9 days post-op but is not as bad as it was those days.

Hi, I'm post-op gastric bypass 3 weeks. For me I felt good almost immediately, got up and walked as soon as it was allowed. Went home the next day. However, the second day home, because I felt so good I decided to walk. I then took on the task of sorting through boxes of papers. The following day, ugh not good, of course I had overdone it. That was my worse day...

I'm day 1. Surgery was yesterday. I was in a lot of pain and nausea when I woke up. Mostly left sided gas pain from being pumped with air. Nausea from meds has gone away after anti nausea meds and time. I'm just walking as much as possible to get that gas pain out. Lots of burping which helps too. I think day of surgery waking up was the worst. I'm already better. Even at my worst point I am still glad I did it and would do it again.

I’m fresh out of surgery! Just got done a few hours ago and resting now. The pain meds are working great and I have little nausea, they did give preventive meds for that though. So happy to finally be on this side!

I felt great day 1 and 2, then day 3 happened and it was miserable. Everything got better from that point though. I’m now at Day 6 and doing quite well. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hopefully you feel just as good (or better) in the coming days.

I’m day 8 and my worst day so far was day 6. The gas pain in my shoulder was almost unbearable. But otherwise I’ve been feeling good!

My day 4 was the worst. I was so backed up and uncomfortable. Wasn't passing gas or having bowel movements. I hit my limit on intake as there was no outbound. I ended up vomiting a dark brown/yellow sludge. I had that happen twice that same day. Then finally passed some gas. The next day had my first bowel movement and was relieved from then on.

I'm almost 6wks out, and I don't remember having any one specifically bad day or days during my recovery. I only used one pain pill in the hospital (just to make sure I could get some sleep), and one dose of prescription pain med the first night I was hope (for same reason). Otherwise, I was like you, not much of any pain afterwards, no nausea - really happy about that lol. The gas pains were there for the first couple days, but I knew to expect that and did countless laps around my living room. For the most part, I think the most annoying part of early recovery was being a bit constipated (normal) and just general discomfort while my incisions finished healing. Plan for the worst, but I suspect you'll continue on your current pain/discomfort level for the initial recovery stage. Best of luck!

Bariatric Advantage is literally the best Protein I have ever had. It has no bad after taste and mixes amazing with everything. I’ve only had the chocolate and iced latte but they were so great I ordered a few more flavors to try! It’s a little spends but totally worth it!
