    Got my date Dec 5th!!!!

I had mine done the 5th too! They required a 2 night stay which annoyed me but there wasn’t anything I could do about it so I just sucked it up. My worst day so far was yesterday, a small headache, lots of nausea and just plain felt crappy. Today is so much better! I was able to get in 40oz of water in yesterday (after leaving the hospital at 1pm) and already at 30oz today so I’m happy that’s going well too!
  2. So I’m almost 15 hours post op and feeling amazing, very little pain or nausea. I know they’ve been pumping me full of things to help all of that but I am wondering what was everyone’s worst day in the few days following surgery? I’m getting nervous because I do feel so well and wondering if/when that will change! I know everyone recovers differently but in general I’m just wondering what the worst day was for others?

    What was your worst day?

I was actually still in the hospital when I wrote that and hooked up to the IV! I’m just wondering if it’s my body’s way of reacting to everything that happened. I’m home now and feel better, the nausea is still right there along with gas pains but I’m slowly feeling better! I hope it just gets better from here!

    What was your worst day?

Thanks everyone! I’m on day 2 post op and I definitely feel worse today. I have a headache that I can’t get rid of and nausea to go along with it. Everything else is going well so hopefully today’s the worst of it!

    Favorite Protein shake

Bariatric advantage is literally the best protein I have ever had. It has no bad after taste and mixes amazing with everything. I’ve only had the chocolate and iced latte but they were so great I ordered a few more flavors to try! It’s a little spends but totally worth it!

    December Surgery Dates

I’m fresh out of surgery! Just got done a few hours ago and resting now. The pain meds are working great and I have little nausea, they did give preventive meds for that though. So happy to finally be on this side!

    Pain post op

I haven’t had my surgery yet (Dec. 5th) but my surgeon did say one of the incision sites would probably be more painful than the others because that is the one they are doing the most work from. I don’t know if that’s the case for yours but it sounds like it. A lot of time the intermittent pain is some nerves reconnecting as well, I know that’s how it was with my c-section healing too. Hopefully it gets better for you soon!

    GUTTED

I’m sorry this happened to you, that would be very disappointing. Did they say what all the scar tissue was from?

Thank you!! Same to you as well! I can’t believe we’re 9 days away, it’s going to be here before we know it!

    The count down!!

My surgery is the 5th as well! I’m finishing day 5 of my two week pre-op diet today. Honestly I was scared about cheating but I am so surprised and happy with myself so far. I’ve just been telling myself it’s not an option and just like any other doctors orders I follow I am doing the same and it makes it easier. Just fair warning the first few days are definitely hard because your body is not used to it so I was a crabby mess for 3 days now things have leveled out and I actually feel great! Lots of water when I think I’m getting hungry and just doing other stuff to keep busy! I can’t believe we’re 9 days away!! Seems so surreal!

    Pre Op diet

I’m on day 3 of my 14 day pre-op diet. I’m allowed 3 protein shakes and one small frozen meal under 320 calories or 4 protein shakes a day. I’m also allowed sugar free jello and chicken broth but with all that I’m supposed to stay under 1,100 calories. I do find it interesting how different many pre-op diets are, I can’t imagine how hard yours is because I feel like mine is hard and it seems a little more lenient than most!

    Protein

I’m starting my pre-op diet today but the hospital I’m using makes us purchase Bariatric Advantage protein shake mixes. I’ll be making my first one in about an hour so we’ll see how it tastes! Just hoping it’s not terrible or it will be an extra long 2 weeks. Lol
  14. The only thing with the sleeve is that is not recommended for anyone already suffering from severe acid reflux or GERD. There is a very high revision rate from VSG to RNY for that reason alone. The sleeve works well but it is discouraged for that reason.
  15. You and I are nearly identical with our story! I’m 33 y/o too, my heaviest weight was 277lbs after my 3rd pregnancy. I’ve been on and off diets since I was in middle school and have always been considered overweight. I’ve yo-yo dieted for the past 2 years jumping anywhere from 249-277 and after another failed attempt last June I put my foot down and said enough is enough. I told my husband I was doing this and I was not changing my mind, thankfully he’s been 100% on board and an amazing support system. I am sorry you husband isn’t quite there yet but I think with time and some education he will get there. I haven’t told anyone else this is the surgery I am having, they all think I am having surgery for severe GERD which technically this will fix that so it’s not a total lie! Lol, I just did not want anyone else’s opinion on my health, it’s my body and I am the one who knows it best, their opinions wether good or bad are not helpful for me. Take time and enjoy the journey too, I read, googled and searched RNY every day since I made this decision. If there is such a thing as over prepared I am there! Haha, I am now sitting in the waiting room of my pre-op appointment and surgery is Dec. 5th! The journey has gone so slow yet so fast at times so take time to reflect and learn and you will be there before you know it!

    Negativity

I actually haven’t told anyone about my surgery. The only person who knows is my husband and doctors of course. I’m scared for the reactions you’re describing, I tend to internalize a lot and take a lot of comments personally and for that reason I decided for my own peace of mind to keep it to myself. I’m sorry you’re dealing with negative people, I have found that people like that are usually feeling bad about things in their own lives and feel the need to tear others down a bit.
  17. When did you drive after surgery? I know you can’t drive when on pain meds but I’m just wondering how many days/weeks you drove after?
  18. kcvasquez

    Driving after surgery

Thank you guys for responding, I don’t think I will have to drive at all before 6 days post op but on day 6 I may have to drive my boys to school (about 2 miles from home) and I wanted to see where everyone else was about that time.

    December Surgery Dates

I’m Dec. 5th! Nerves are definitely starting to set in. For the first time last night I truly second guessed this decision. I follow a lot of RNY’rs on Instagram and one posted all her vitamins and supplements she takes and she was 3 years post op. Even though I know and have known for months that it is part of the changes I will make for some reason it really hit me last night. Today I’m fine so I’m sure I just needed to get those feelings out and come back to the reality that this will be so much better and I will be so much healthier soon!

    November 29th RNY

I start mine on the 20th and I’m nervous about Thanksgiving too.
  21. kcvasquez

    The struggle is...REAL

I start my next week and I’m nervous about cheating because that’s all I️ know how to do! Plus it’s over Thanksgiving and a friend’s wedding where there will be lots of food and alcohol. I’m very determined but scared too. So I️ have no advice but I’d love to hear what other people have done too!

    Change of surgery?

I went into my first appointment wanting VSG but left set on RNY. My surgeon said he personally doesn’t think VSG is a great fit for most people, especially patients who are morbidly obese. He said that the gold standard is the RNY and that his patients tend to do better long term going that route. I also have severe acid reflux and GERD so he said VSG would make that worse (I can’t even imagine it worse than it is now!) but he told me that RNY can most of the time completely take care of it. So it was a no brainer after that that I would just do gastric bypass. After reading of so many people who have had to get revisions from VSG to RNY it helped reinforce that decision too! I hope that helps a little, either way it is great to ask questions and research both to see what you think will be best for your body!

    Nerves

I’m in the same boat as you right now. My surgery is in 24 days and I’m starting to get nervous, surprisingly not about the surgery itself but the life changes after surgery. I haven’t second guessed myself yet but I do worry about emotions and life changes afterwards. I’ve just been telling myself that I’ve had the past 33 years to eat whatever I wanted and basically start to destroy my body from the inside out that now is the time I take care of my body and be healthy enough to try to be around for another 50+ years. I know what we’re feeling is normal so I’m just taking each day at a time and confronting my feelings and fears as they come. I’m also looking forward to all the things I will be able to do with the weight gone!

    Time off

My surgery is Dec. 5th and I’m going back the 13th for a few days and then have another week off around Christmas. I do home daycare and unfortunately can’t afford to take much time off, I’m only taking back the older kids at first who are self sufficient and I don’t have to lift. I wish I could take more time off but I will manage
  25. Me too! I can’t wait to be able to clip my toenails without struggling to breathe, and to be able to sit in the car without the buckle digging into my thighs. There are so many little things I am looking forward!
