yay... more sleevers bashing RNY with no evidence to support any of their claims. how useful.
those are not side effects of gastric bypass. they CAN be side effects of ANY bariatric surgery (sleeve included, hate to break it to ya) if one goes back to destructive eating habits. they are also all things that millions of people without bariatric surgery suffer from.

whoa.... at your high weight you were barely two bills and you got gastric bypass? hey, that's cool.
but that's also why you "only" lost 16lbs. that's 8% of your freakin body weight. that'd be like me losing 28lbs my first month!
you're not very big to begin with. if you see people on here talking about 30lbs lost in the first month they are usually male and around 400lbs.
comparitively, you are actually outpacing a 400lb guy who lost 30. hell i wrapped up my first month today and i lost 24. and i was/am ecstatic. and i'm way way bigger than you! do you see what i'm saying here?
focus on your emotional health. the weight loss will come in time. you need to focus on getting your soul right...

JohnnyCakes reacted to AdriAdri in MY intro & 8 days away from surgery !!!
HIII everyone my name's Adriana I'm 26yo and I'm finally ready to share my journey. I started the process feb 2017 and I will have my surgery August 14th ( yikes, 8 days away). I chose to have the rny gastric bypass. I've been overweight FOREVER, I've never been skinny or under 200 which was my lowest weight at around 16-18 yo and that's because I started suffering from hyperthyroidism, as soon as that went under control my weight kept going up to about 240 last year it went up to 265 and felt horrible, so uncomfortable, out of breath and just unhealthy. I've changed my eating habits and started eating healthier. I've started swimming and aqua Zumba classes and I love it. Right now I'm on my pre-op diet which consists of 2 shakes and 1 complete meal which is pretty good to me. I have fears of doing this and not losing a pound, I've just been fat for so long can't imagine myself any differently. Please help me with these fears. I'm in NYC would love to have a buddy going through the same thing nearby. My husband is probably tired of hearing yap about my fears/expectations of the surgery lol.

JohnnyCakes got a reaction from heycrystal2052 in Soups After Surgery
the problem with Soups can be the calories. because Soup goes down easy and releases from the pouch to the intestines quickly, you don't fill up very much on them. yet all the calories count. not as big of a deal with broth-based soups, but obviously the ones made with cream can be very high-calorie.
when you start transitioning to solid foods, they really want you to eat SOLID FOODS for two reasons - it teaches your new stomach to digest different textures again, and real food stays in your stomach longer giving you the feeling of fullness or satiety for longer.
i see this clearly with my own limited experience. if i eat egg and spinach, i am very full for a long time. but i can eat a startling amount of soup, quickly, and be hungry again in an hour. so personally i am going to back off of soups until i hit my goal weight. then add them back in.
btw - this does not count drinking broth, which is my favorite thing evarrrr.

JohnnyCakes reacted to bgjon5 in 1 year post op (and several days)
I see a lot here who post their X-post op stories so I figured I would go ahead and share mine, I had my RNY on July 26th 2016, at my heaviest weight I toppled the scales at 460, at the day of surgery I was 418 in just 1 short year I'm now around 275 I'm usually not good at writing or sharing stories about myself, since being a big person self esteem issues has, and still is something I have regardless of how much weight I've lost. It's funny after the pounds fall off it was up until a few months ago I would look into the mirror and see no changes regardless of what others told me they saw for take a ways I would say follow what the DR tells you, there will be days that's hard and days you want to give up stick to the plan ! follow advice from forums like these, I rarely posted much here however look at my join date I've done allot of reading and searching others stories here so I would know what to expect before, during and after surgery I hope one day I can offer advice that will help someone along their journey also!.

JohnnyCakes got a reaction from heycrystal2052 in Opioid Malabsorption
morphine will probably hinder your weight loss efforts LESS than Vicodin/Percocet, because there is no acetametaphin in it.

from a study on the LiverTox website:
"There have been no convincing cases of idiosyncratic acute, clinically apparent liver injury attributed to morphine. Morphine and other opiates have little hepatic metabolism and they are generally excreted unchanged in the urine, perhaps accounting for their relative lack of hepatotoxicity."

the weight gain (or slowing of weight loss) from Vicodin/Percocet comes because the liver has to process all that acetametophin. if your liver is doing that, it can't process your food and your body fat. it slows the whole works down. your liver needs to be at optimal performance for optimal weight loss.

JohnnyCakes reacted to sleevedshereen in Long post but I needed to say this to people who would understand
    Hi there!
So I really think that we all get scared of changes that could happen and how it will affect our lives.
I think that you have come sooooo freaking far, and way too far to revert back. You look so amazing and you're truly an inspiration.
I think now what you have to focus on is self love and you obviously went to inquire about plastics because you want to feel more comfortable in the new body you are coming into and that is absolutely 100% acceptable.
I know it's scary to adapt to a person you've never seen looking back at you in the mirror but if you think your thighs are a problem area to you and you think plastics would make you feel better about yourself, then reach your goal! Don't stop!
I've been insecure my whole life...and in high school I had a teacher tell me "Every day you wake up, look in the mirror, and give yourself a compliment...say one thing you like about yourself". I never did it.
I realize now that I have hardly any self love...so even if I lose all the weight, I'm still going to find something about my body that is wrong, that I don't like.
I'm now learning, compliment myself, feel good about myself, love the body I'm in, stretch marks, cellulite and saggy skin because I'm not going to get a new body...if I can't love myself, how can I be happy?
And I have so many fears about not being able to indulge the way I used to, how I will look after the weight loss, still being disgusted by who I see in the mirror, and sooo much more...but we gotta just stay hopeful and start to love ourselves and have more faith in ourselves!
Don't look back at the girl you used to be, look at who you are today, and who you want to be in the future.
    Keep moving forward! <3

no, i've just noticed that no matter what or who the particular thread is about, you almost always start talking about either yourself or your husband.
let me ask you then - what about your husband's story has ANYTHING to do with Thomas here? specifically his awesome update?
