My date is 8th of September. I am excited, scared, regretting my decision, proud of my decision and everything else every day. Feels almost like being pregnant with the emotional roller coaster. Come to think of it I even have the big belly!

The medical records that my parents saved show that I was only 4 years old the first time I went through a medical diet. Since then I tried all the diets you can imagine. I have been followed by nutritionists, doctors, therapists. I followed the south beach diet, Duncan diet, intermittent starving, the whole 30, I can't even remember them. But when I was going back eating as my all other friends were... I gained weight. Again and again. I have been up and down from 170 to 280 pounds so many times in my life. And that's very dangerous. But I never felt "full" or "satisfied" in my entire life. I'll go through a gastric bypass on September the 5th. I am on my pre-op diet. It started few days ago and I know I'll do my 30 days of shakes and 1 meal of boiled veggies and a small amount of Protein. I am really scared for the years after surgery. I hope I'll tolerate all healthy foods but in moderation. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. I hope this is last time I'll lose weight and I hope this time will be a little easier to mantain the new weight. Good luck to all of you, my friends.

Many of my close friends and family know that I have had a battle all my life. A struggle that has been at the forefront of each and every day that I can remember of my life. Something that I know many of you can relate to and also struggle with. Weight. For all of my teenage years and into my adult life I fought every pound my body so readily gained. I was active, I rode horses every day, I played sports, I camped, and I hiked. I grew up on a farm, so throwing hay and carting buckets of Water and grain was any every day normal for me, however, as active as I was I gained weight at what seemed to be astronomical speeds. I was always the heaviest of my friends, even though I ate far less and much healthier foods than they, growing up on the farm, we ate home grown everything. I didn't chow down on the Cookies, cakes and fast foods my thin friends ate and yet, there I was 50-75 pounds bigger than all of them. I can remember in 8th grade I weighted 185 pounds at 5 foot 3 inches tall at that time. Every minute of my life all I thought about was how I worked so hard and stayed so active and yet I was heavy. When I was 19 I became pregnant and my weight went from 190's to 240 plus. I was able to lose a bit of the "baby weight" and got back down to around 210 pounds. Three years later, and after every diet known to mankind, from weight watchers to metabolife, I was pregnant again, this time ballooning up to 270 pounds. I was on depression medications afterwards. I was sick, very sick from the depression and literal pain of morbid obesity. Many years passed, and many more diets came and went, Atkins, The Zone, Jenny Craig, South Beach, slim fast, fasting, dexatrim, low carb, low fat, high Protein, phen phen and hgc diet, I tried them all. In that time I was never able to maintain anything under 200 pounds. At 32 years old, I went through a terrible divorce, and I don't know about any one else but divorce was like a living death for me, I gave up on myself at that point. In 2010 and weighing 256 pounds I finally found some hope to all the endlessness. I was able blessed to have family and friends and insurance see me through a life saving lapband surgery in April of 2010. I finally had the extra push and the help I needed. Though I did not lose weight fast, 5 pounds a month or so, I was healthier. My blood pressure returned to normal, my pre-diabetic blood sugars returned to normal, I did not have to have a cpac machine, my joints ached less and I felt pretty great all around. (My photo is after my surgery, after I had lost some weight and felt almost normal) So than why, you might wonder am I here today? Two months ago my lapband "slipped." It is not in the right place in order to help create the pocket of my stomach as it once had. Basically there is no restriction. Not only has this caused me to gain almost 40 pounds in 2 months, I am no longer able to feel a feeling of fullness. I still eat healthy, as anyone who has had weight loss surgery knows, you have to go through nutrition courses and relearn how and what to eat, my issue is is that even after I have eaten my salad, I feel as though I have eaten nothing at all, there is no satisfaction, no full feeling and so one salad becomes two, becomes three, and so on until I am in literal pain and a whole head of lettuce is gone in one sitting, not to mention the tomatoes, cheese, diced chicken, onion, zucchini and what ever other topping I can find to eat with it. I have gained weight back so fast that my bones, muscles, joints and ligament scream in pain in a constant. In just the past two months I have went from 177 pounds to 227 pounds. My blood pressure is on the rise, and as we all know all the other health risks associated with morbid obesity are close at hand. Another complication my lapband has caused because of the slippage is sever heartburn, acid, re-flux and gurd. Those in themselves have life threatening side effects, esophageal cancer at the top of the list. Though I have insurance, it does not cover the full cost of the surgery I need to have the band removed and replaced with a gastric surgery. I know this is a lot to ask of anyone, and to some it may even seem selfish, but I am a 40 plus year old, married, mom and I am not asking this in order to win any beauty contests. This is not cosmetic, in fact I never had the excess skin removed from my last surgery (which is now filled in again) because this is not about appearances. It's about a person, many of you may know in one form or another that just wants to spend the second half of her life healthy. A life not waking up to the fears of diabetes, heart attacks, uterine cysts and cancers that are so often coupled with being morbidly obese. And to not have to carry that tag ("morbidly obese") of death every day of what could be a shortened life. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, thank you for reading this far, thank you for your understanding, and compassion, you are a rare gift, and I mean this sincerely as there are some even in my own home that persecute me for even writing this. You are my hope and my salvation.

    Sincerely, Liv.

Weighed in 278.4 day of surgery, 178.4 this morning. Sleeved 8/1 so just a bit over 10 months out.
Also, I'm officially out of the "overweight" BMI range. (my info says 25 but BMI calc says I'm justttt under it)

8/1 (surgery) - 1/18 (about halfway between then and now) - 6/11 (today!)
I'm 8.4lbs away from my initial goal but I think I might adjust to 150. Trying to get some kind of body fat testing done per suggestions in a thread I posted earlier this week so I can get a better idea of what's fat and what's skin.

I know what you mean. My insurance to requires 6 months documented weight loss attempt. My surgeon wants me to lose a minimum of 12lbs before the surgery. I'm like dude, in 6 months I can lose, and regain 12 lbs 6 times. Hell I could lose 50lbs in 6 months Then have regained 70 by 12. months.
So right now I'm no going o concern or stress myself about those 12lbs. All I've done so far is cut out all soft drinks, drink 32 to 64 oz Water a day. I also occasionally replace a lunch for a Protein Shake. Thankfully my insurance doesn't require me to lose a weight. So far I'm maintaining my current weight,
I'll keep doing this for the nest 3 months, then I'll seriously work on the 12lbs *eye roll* I could probably take a good shit and lose 12 lbs lol jk

This is a cool thread! I typically do some toning/ lifting type stuff on the total gym. I've had good luck finding videos online for that thing. I also do 20 - 40 minutes on the treadmill.
Today, I added in some crunches while my 5yo stood over me shouting "go, mommy, go!" It was both cute and motivational.
Some of my special considerations include:
Hyper-extension if I'm not careful, this is why I like the total gym as opposed to free weights.
Flat feet - I bought some great sneakers online (brand name "vionic") with built in arch supports.
Motivation - I used to put on a show while on the treadmill to keep myself occupied, but lately have switched to music and have found that I can walk and shake my butt at the same time to some old school Dr Dre.

Good luck with everything and as far as I've been reading through posts. As long as it's 12 months or later post op it's best but some have gotten pregnant right away and still managed to come out at the end alright.

collins4985 reacted to James Marusek in 2 weeks post op- eating little, hard to get protein
The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.
It is common for individuals to meet their protein and fluid requirements right after surgery. Your stomach is in a major heal mode. But just keep trying to reach your daily goals and you should soon be able to get there.

I'm 10 months out. Down almost 100 pounds. Weigh less now than I did when I got married to my husband 20 years ago.
Go to a seminar at the hospital you are considering using (most require it as part of the process) and learn a little more. Here's what I can tell you.
Last year at this time, my daughter was looking at the University of Pittsburgh and I couldn't walk the half mile from the hotel to campus. I could not complete the campus tour. I was a mess. (I knew I was going to have surgery at that point, but did not know when other than late summer, early fall).
I was at Pitt for three days. I parked the car at the hotel and didn't move it until we checked out. I walked miles and miles and was never tired. I ran a 5k on Sunday. (Never again - I've learned I hate running). I've inspired my girls to lose weight. I'm in better shape now than I have been in 20 years.
You are right, it is a tool. You have to change your habits, but it helps. Physically, I cannot consume the amount of food I used to at a meal. I eat my 3-5 ounces of Protein and a bit of a vegetable and I'm full. If I eat too much, I feel ill.
Best of luck in making your decision.

I was 451 pounds before I had my surgery in September. Got on the scale today and saw the number 299! I know this is not a big deal for some people, 299 is higher than a lot of your starting weights before surgery, but this is a MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT for me. I haven't seen a number lower than 300 on the scale since I was sixteen years old. So, yeah, I still have a ways to go, but I am so happy with this decision. I look better, I feel incredible, and I will never go back to being the self destructive girl slowly killing herself with food that I was a year ago.

    collins4985 reacted to Freedom2Thrive in 16 and 340 lbs - My Journey
This is a story about a young man who always had a smile on his face but knew he was different. Whether it be his heart or his waistline he always had the biggest in his class. He never let it hold him back because he saw the best in people when they couldn't see it in him.

He wasn’t always so confident about what life would hold for him. At the age of 12, he had gotten to 220 pounds. Due to a condition unrelated to his weight he suffered pain in his legs and ankles and required surgery to repair a curvature in his legs. Post-op, he gained even more weight. From age 12 to 16 he gained about 120 pounds.

It's hard to see the pain behind this cutie's smile, but when he was 16 he told a psychiatrist that he was ready to die. He felt like he maxed out on his potential in life and it would be okay if he wasn't around anymore. It was an extremely stressful time and he had no proper way to cope with anything, and he let himself get to 340 pounds. He had no values. He had no beliefs and he saw no purpose.

In 2010, his mom read a magazine article about the SickKids Team Obesity Management Program. Through STOMP, patients can access a team of health professionals, support groups and, for those who meet specific criteria, bariatric surgery. At the time, the program was focused on teens with other health issues, such as Type 2 diabetes, but he was still a solid fit. After three months, he had lost 20 pounds and the team was looking at surgical options. In August 2011 and weighing 300 pounds, he had a Roux-En-Y gastric bypass, a form of bariatric surgery

In less than a year he lost around 80 pounds, weighing 220 pounds. His life had changed significantly when it came to eating, but he was prepared for that and knew he would have to manage this for the rest of his life.

It wasn't perfect and for a few years post-op he struggled with multiple different complications, but he found a way to push through them and find some balance in his life.

He began to find purpose in his life. He went to nursing school, driven by the care and passion that many doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals poured into him along his journey. He wanted to give back and make a difference in other people's lives. He wanted others to see that they were just as worth the love and care he received.

He found values. He became accountable for his actions and saw what was truly important in his life. He became a lover of travelling, eating delicious food and engaging in fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle.

He developed a new set of beliefs - that every day is another chance to get stronger, to eat better, to live healthier and be the best version of himself because he is human - perfectly imperfect and worth it.
