KateBruin got a reaction from shanshan in April surgery date
April 4! Less than 2 weeks. Got my preop clearance today and she has no reasons to suspect I won’t be cleared. My pregnancy test is always positive but I have phantom hcg in my blood 🤷🏻♀️

KateBruin got a reaction from Frustr8 in April 2019 Surgeries!
Getting nervous for my Thursday surgery. I guess his scheduler has been calling me cause there’s a Monday cancellation but my box was full so I got it after hours today, Friday. It’s okay. I have one dessert spot I need a small bite from and otherwise I’d be on my 2 day liquid diet all weekend. Not prepared for Monday! I don’t even know how I’ll be ready for Thursday. It came up so quickly!!

KateBruin got a reaction from SeattleLady in Gerd
After a year and a half with severe GERD, including aspirating some vomit into my lungs while I sleep I’m getting converted in a week. I got approved in less than a day. I did switch surgeons. My original one is a POS and basically wants me to keep suffering. Sorry, I won’t risk a slow death from aspiration pneumonia!

KateBruin got a reaction from mousecat88 in Why is ibuprofen a no no?
I love topical NSAID. I use it on my knees and shoulders. It actually does help. -

KateBruin got a reaction from ZGal in Antidepressants & Birth Control (ladies!)
I got my period the day before sleeve and have it now 2 weeks before bypass. I’m on continuous birth control and don’t get periods. It just shows how stressed I must feel. -

KateBruin got a reaction from KimB7811 in BCBS 6 month diet requirements [emoji31] help! Any options?
Unfortunately it’s just their requirements. I have BCBS but federal plan and mine was 3 months. Just one doctor appointment a month, either my surgeon or GP. Most do seem to be 6 months.

KateBruin got a reaction from Mj77803 in Sleeve revision to bypass
Same. I hit my limit when I would wake up choking on vomit and wheeze for hours after cause I aspirated some. I got approval within 24 hours. Wicked fast. -

KateBruin got a reaction from TxStar09 in April 2019 Surgeries!
Don’t be too scared! You have help/a SO to help with the kids for a bit? I’ve had: ankle surgery, spine fusion, shoulder repair, sleeve, incisional hernia repair, gallbladder removed and I’m going to have bypass then my second shoulder repaired. The complication rates are low compared to other frequently performed surgeries. Follow your surgeon’s direction and chances of complication are slim. Don’t be afraid to tell the anesthesiologist/CRNA you’re anxious and they’ll give you some IV meds to calm you before going into the OR. -
KateBruin got a reaction from polly... in Why is ibuprofen a no no?
I take an rx NSAID daily (mobic/meloxicam). I have to stay off it for 6 months then only take if my body needs it. I’m having a second shoulder repair a few weeks after my bypass conversion. I’ll be using a topical NSAID that you can get from your doctor. Mine is called Pennsaid.

KateBruin got a reaction from KimB7811 in Psych eval question!
I had a questionnaire and I’m sure she had access to my medical records. However, it was just a 50 minute 1:1 therapy session and then she said I need a letter from my psychiatrist to say he treats me and will continue to treat me. That was kind of ridiculous since insurance sees that I take my meds and see him monthly 🙄

KateBruin got a reaction from Mj77803 in Upper GI and EGD??
It’s great to hear you’re reflux free. Mine is incredibly awful. Original sleeve surgeon basically keeps telling me to suffer so I’ve gone to another surgeon and will get bypass April 4. I just pray I’m in his 90% of patients whose GERD is cured. -
KateBruin got a reaction from GreenTealael in Do all sleeves or baraitric surgeries need revisions?
I’m getting a sleeve to bypass conversion because of uncontrollable GERD. GERD is pretty common after a sleeve because your stomach becomes a high pressure system so lots of doctors put you on prophylactic PPIs for a few months. As you see above, most people don’t need conversion. GERD is either controllable on meds or goes away. I’ve been unlucky with a lot of complications.

KateBruin got a reaction from ms.sss in Frothy/Foam vomit or spit up
The foamies is disgusting. I wake up choking on foam and bile so I’m getting bypass from a sleeve. PPIs stopped working a year ago and caused enough bone loss for me to lose my $5,000 dental implant

KateBruin got a reaction from FluffyChix in Yogurt
I get mine from farmers market. He makes sheep’s milk Greek yogurt with fruit and no added sugar. It’s so much better than anything from the grocery. The sheep’s milk makes it so creamy and incredible.

So who is on April 4? I know there’s a ton of us. Anyone in the LA area? I’m nervous for my surgery even though I’ve had a sleeve so I’ve basically done this before.

Don’t stress about the anesthesia. Ask for Zofran or something which reduces post anesthesia nausea and vomiting. My body isn’t a huge fan of anesthesia. It sticks around for a long time and I’m a zombie even without additional pain meds.
I’ve probably had 6 major general anesthesia surgeries. You’ll be okay!
