Ouiser got a reaction from Berry78 in Pyloric Stenosis/Pyloromyotomy
I suspect as much as well. Same stories. Projectile vomiting no matter what was given. She took me to our family doctor - and he said "I Don't want to scare you, but this is not uncommon and you need to take him to surgery immediately". I was 10 days old. Left a pretty awesome scar on my stomach; my older brother told his friends it was a war wound - HA!

Ouiser got a reaction from Frustr8 in Pyloric Stenosis/Pyloromyotomy
Initial consultation. I had reached out to this Bariatric Center, made an appointment and met with various staff (nurses, nutrionist, and of course the surgeon) to go over what is expected. My next consultation with the doctor is 6/27 - by that time all the appropriate blood work, ekg, and xrays will have been completed.

Ouiser got a reaction from Frustr8 in Pyloric Stenosis/Pyloromyotomy
Hello
I'm new to this and have some concerned. My initial appointment with the doctor - he sort of hesitated a bit when he read I had pyloric stenosis and then continued on with the rest of his lecture. I never questioned him on that hesitation but I am curious if anyone else has had a Gastric Sleeve and had pyloric stenosis/Pyloromyotomy as an infant?

Ouiser got a reaction from Rosana in August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Sleeved on 8/23; lost about 40 lbs in 3 weeks. Now that I'm in my 4th-5th week, my weight loss has stalled. I hope it picks back up again. Anywhere ever had an issue with bad breath after the surgery? I can't seem to make it better.

Ouiser got a reaction from HDScarlett in Bad breath and stalled weight loss
I just took a urine ketone test and its in the moderate-high range. I know the urine tests are the best way, but at least it gives me a general idea. Certainly explains the bad breath and makes me feel a little better about it.

Ouiser got a reaction from TammyA in ate congee - I'm dying
Thank you so much for your concern and input. Really makes me feel better. As I said, other than a little gurgling and an absolute fear of eating again - I'm doing much better.

Ouiser reacted to dashofsunshine in Coffee
Your stomach has 3 rows of staples now, and 70-80% of it was removed - this is why things that are highly acidic (like coffee, or wine) as well as NSAIDS (which are known to sometimes cause ulcers in normal stomachs when taken in large amounts) are generally discouraged with all bariatric procedures. Caffeine is also a diuretic, as someone else commented - it dehydrates you faster, and Water is precious (especially in the early days) to your body now because you won't be getting much liquid from food anymore.
ALL of that being said...I will be 3 years out in November. I drink a 6 oz cup of coffee with a splash of Creamer every morning. I drink dry white wine occasionally on the weekends. I will pop an ibuprofen occasionally. No ulcers here.
My best advice would be don't do coffee/NSAIDS/wine in excess (like, several cups/glasses/pills a day), and give your new sleeve full time to heal completely. You'll likely be fine

Ouiser got a reaction from defibvt in Hello Gay Sleevers
This room is quiet. Surely there are other gay men who are considering gastric sleeve.

Ouiser got a reaction from B.Annie in Buyers remorse hits hard
This remains to be something that terrifies me. My surgery is scheduled a few day before my birthday at the end of the summer. But I think at the end of the day - it will be worth it.

Ouiser got a reaction from njgal in WORST TIME TRYING TO GET THIS DONE
Went to another doctor. All settled. Completely unnecessary for me to be on a machine for several weeks leading up to surgery. Having one IN surgery/recovery is fine (even though the hospital will provide one).
More frustratingly, same doctor - my mother used - double my age, multiple more health concerns - didn't even have to take a sleep test, never mind this.
Frustration levels would be less if location was closer. New doctor significantly closer. Shame on me for not looking around myself instead of just accepting a reference.
