  1. Don't forget your friends the gut bugs. There are more of them in us than us in us. They cause cravings. The ones who live off sugars (carbs) will beg you so bad for more carbs that it's impossible to resist them. Our secret weapon? Our diets! Filling up on proteins, fats, and veggies and good starches (like root vegetables) will fill our gut biome with bacteria who thrive on those things. And the sugar craving bugs will die out! I actually changed my biome like this before surgery and lost my sweet tooth.... but didn't lose weight because I couldn't control my portions. But it really works, giving us another reason to limit carbs and sweets.
  2. I seem to be developing some kind of "reaction" to whey. I was ok with it for the two week pre-op diet, as well as about 3 weeks post op. Now I get shaky, nauseous, blurry vision, and a yucky sick feeling after sipping on it, even mixed with water. And my whey is pure grassfed with NO other ingredients. So it is the whey that is causing this. in order to get protein right now, I am forced to rely on my other two protein staples. Homemade bone broth (one big mug full a day, only, because it takes 2 days to make it in my crockpot) at 9 g a cup. And the Greek yogurt at 22 g a cup, which I put into a glass and add some vegetable juice. Looks weird but once mixed with a whisk it tastes good. My nutritionist doesn't need allow fruit or fruit juice as they are sugar bombs. So I need a new source of protein. Ordered from Amazon Paleo Pro protein powder made from grassfed beef and eggs. It has good reviews so going to try it. Will report back. I think the doctors need to ask people to pay attention for reactions to whey. I'm not the only person who feels sick from it.
  3. Thanks for any help anyone has. I am going to try and drink bone broth today but even with some yogurt I won't make 60g any other plain protein powders that don't taste horrible? Anyone else ever get these almost allergic reactions to whey? I'm not allergic to dairy.
  4. Your shape is absolutely beautiful like a movie star. I bet you will be stunned each time you pass your reflection! It's pretty major, sounds like far more serious than the surgeries to start our journeys. I am all thigh so I hopefully one day will be able to do this. Just starting my journey. As hard as this is, for you, in a year it will be a year ago, and the next year two years ago, but you will still have this amazing body. I didn't realize how amazing the results could be. You're the best I've ever seen. Keep on recovering well!
  5. I'm three weeks out. My main proteins are grass fed organic whey powder (no sugar no flavor) mixed with milk or water. Two days ago I started getting a dizzy nausea bad vision shaky feeling after just having a hand ful of sips of my protein drink. Been drinking it exactly the same two or three times a day since just after surgery so this reaction is new. I tested the milk, didn't give me that feeling. Tested the protein powder in water, yesterday, and got that same low blood sugar kind of reaction. Very unpleasant and started to give me the start of a migraine. anyone had this reaction to whey? Also why so out of the blue? AND HOW DO I GET ENOUGH PROTEIN? I have some nasty tasting pea protein, can try it. i also drink bone broth and 1 c has 9 g but I can't drink it all day. I also can eat the Greek yogurt, and mix it in vegetable juice. But not in quantity. I have also tried refried beans with success, but I am talking 1 oz at a time. I can't eat much soft food yet.
  6. Chris, I too am glad you survived your surgery! Scary! I feel old having this in my 50s but I am so very glad I finally did it. I am 3 weeks out and don't feel hunger like I used to either. I have trouble getting enough fluids, and noe I seem to be reacting to my very pure plain grassfed whey powder. I was getting enough protein with it, but now what? Still, I eat to live now, trying an ounce or so of solids a day, probably getting round 600-700 calories only, and while I feel I should be working up to 800 calories, I'm not dying to eat.
  7. Pixie! You weight 245 and fit in a 14/16! I am 3 weeks out. Started at low obesity. Now I weigh 186 and still can't get into a size 16! Aren't bodies weird? Mine is Extra Fluffy I guess. My fat must spread out more!
  8. Remember that fat cells contain estrogen. When we start using them up, the estrogen is released into the body. Who knows what kind of crap that can cause. Our doc says suddenly people who were not trying became pregnant after being sleeved.
  9. Wow. At one week out, I was only getting my protein in. Not enough liquid apart from that, as well as I had ZERO energy and didn't walk ANYWHERE NEAR what you are doing. I felt out of it too. I tried to just drive to pick up kids and get foods, because I didn't feel I wasn't driving with a full deck yet Take it more easy. Give yourself permission to be recovering. Your mind will be sharper after two weeks. Mine is. I might be close to normal.
  10. How are people doing starting soft foods? My nutritionist has us after 2 weeks, trying soft foods 1/4 cup a day. First, I puréed a peanut vegetable stew and that was wonderful. Next I tried one of the bariatric cheese and refried bean bakes. And that went down well too. I'm following the nutritionist instructions and taking a fingernail size bite and chewing it like 30 times til it kind of melts. The next day, I was waiting for my daughter's camp to be done and drinking camomile tea in a bagel place. I decided to order some lox (smoked salmon) which I knew I would waste, but I took tiny fingernail sized bites and let them melt in my mouth. Total amount I ate in that half hour was about one inch square piece of smoked salmon. All of a sudden I had my first wave of nausea since surgery about 17 days ago. I got scared. But it slowly passed and i walked some after and felt fine. was it because of the tiny amount of fish? Or was it because I forgot to stop sipping the tea while I ate solids? First time "eating" in public so I got distracted. today I am trying my beloved scrambled eggs in butter. I puréed them after scrambling, put them in a 1oz container, and for the last 45 mins have been taking tiny bites. I really want to NOT be among those who can't digest eggs after. It's my favorite food. I am maybe 3/4 done with 1 oz and since it's been nearly an hour, I will stop here. So far so good. How are the other July sleevers doing, trying solids? (Also - I am not getting quite enough water and sometimes getting enough protein. And I have not lost weight in a week or so. I have lost inches though.)
  11. I've thought about bariatric surgery for years. I only did it this year because my blood pressure was going sky high. I had a lot of stress and I thought that was it. The Meds for BP made me so sick. well, I was sleeved July 19th. Two weeks before that, of course I was on the pre op diet, which I called a starvation diet. Two protein drinks and one meal of a piece of meat with some veggies. During those two weeks, I kept taking my BP every day, and it went way down. It went into the yellow on the graph and no longer always up high in the red zone. Amazing. And now it has been two weeks since surgery, and nearly every BP reading (I do twice a day) is in the normal range. What?? I haven the even lost that much weight yet. It is AMAZING and it is a huge relief for me. i have six months of BP charts all RED with really high BP. Then boom, the pre op diet dropped it into the yellow "moderately high" range. And post surgery all but one lone reading has been NORMAL. We want to live long and healthy. So glad I took this step.
  12. Aren't you lovely! You are such a doll with a genuine sweet smile. i actually think your post helped you. Just writing it, letting yourself and the world know that you're onto yourself slipping that little self sabotage in. I hope it helps you keep your behaviors positive. Respect your lovely new self. It is OK that it's hard to stay slim. It's OK that your mind isn't used to it yet. You have a great support system. It's hard. But you are doing it. and you're a great example for the rest of us!
  13. My intention to is to serve whole healthy foods that I can have a bit of. I have to feed 5-7 people a night in my house. How our post op eating compares to keto is avoiding most carbs (except veggies). However, keto "diets" ask for high fat. High protein with some good fats is what we need. Since our tummies are small, we need to focus on our protein first, to survive. Im hoping that when school starts I can eat meat. That will help.
  14. I'm a divorced woman in my 50s, 2 adult kids and two little kids, in SoCal, and was sleeved in Vegas on 7/19. I have not lost much weight in 2 weeks, only 4 lbs. But I measured and I have lost inches. That helps. Just starting to eat soft foods (1/4 c a day a small per nutritionist instructions.).
  15. Second day of soft foods. Last night I made a refried bean cream cheese bake with cheddar melted on top. Then I served lots of other add ins for the family to make tacos. But I had my 1/4 c of the bean bake. I didn't need to purée it. but my doctor's instructions are to take fingernail sized bites and chew each one 30 times. It took almost an hour to eat a quarter cup because I was biting the cheese into millimeter size. I was worried cheese would somehow hurt my stomach. But it didn't and it tasted really good. So maybe if the food is soft enough we don't have to purée it.
  16. I'd be tempted to ask him on IG if it's true that he is having bariatric surgery. It's not right to frustrate his followers that he did it all without surgery.
  17. A lot of the doctors' nutritionists have really good long term healthy food goals that avoid sugars, fake sugars, and extraneous carbs including fruit. I actually chose my doc based on the nutritionist he chose because I believed not only was he a great surgeon but he cared about long term healthy post op. this may not be popular around here, but fake sugars and staying on sweet foods IS HARMFUL. There are lots of other tastes than are good and yummy that don't harm us. We have to leave behind the sweet tastes pretty much forever. And when we do, our gut bugs (where all food cravings come from) start to be the kind that crave vegetables, healthy fats, and proteins. I don't know how my fellow sleevers who are told to eat tons of sweet things (fake sugar packaged products and drinks) ever do it. It must make weight loss so much harder when your body is crying out for sugary sweet things. We get this do over. I want to eat what I want my body to crave. Real, natural, healthy food. Maybe it might work for you too (I am very much a work in progress). Good luck! You got this.
  18. I swallowed a migraine pill whole a few days after surgery. also my tiny thyroid pill. Try it I guess? I would not like crushing them either.
  19. I was 2 weeks yesterday, and was allowed finally my first 1/4 c of soft food. But I was scared so I took the vegetable peanut stew (west African) I made for the family yesterday and blended it and put 1/4 into the little bowl. It was delicious and spicy and I tried to take tiny bites and chew it a lot but it went down really easy. I want that ricotta bake, looks so good.
  20. Also, that shaky weak feeling? It's not straight up "hunger" I think. It's the need for protein. So send it some protein powder in liquid and it should calm down. I don't feel hunger like once did, but I get weak and shaky. It means I need protein. I am finding I have to take protein powder in a liquid with me everywhere in case it hits.
  21. Poor thing. I'm only one week ahead of you. It seems like maybe the hormones escaping from your fat cells are causing your anxiety. We are using our fat cells for fuel right now, and a lot of hormones are being dumped. They can have emotional and even anxiety side effects. The real you isn't worried about a bagel; you either will or won't e able to eat one or even want to eat one! This isn't about the hypothetical bagel, just about anxiety or a kind of panic attack. Maybe just feeling the symptoms of anxiety and talking to yourself about how these sweaty palms, shakiness, worries, come from the escaping estrogen from your fat cells being used for fuel. Maybe naming the symptoms will shrink them down a bit so you can get on with your successful recovery! I hope so. hang in there. Great that you are getting all your fluids. Still struggling here but I go,get a vitamin and mineral iv every week to help.
  22. I am a low BMI loser so my weight has been the same, same 2 lbs up and down daily. I should avoid the scale, but it's right there, so... I've got that, I see what I'm eating so I know long term I am on the path. just now I looked at my upper arm and wondered if it was my imagination that it was smaller somehow. So without looking at my pre surgery measurement, I measured generously my upper arm. An inch less than my pre-op measurement! What???? Wow. So I did my smallest waist measurement which is right under the boobs. Again, was generous. Two inches less than my pre-op, what?? I swear I was fair on the befores, and generous on today's. now I am NOT telling my fellow July sleevers to do this. Probably a bit obsessive this soon. But my size still fits me fine, the scale isn't really going down... but I now think my body is using my stored fat a little. For me, it helped encourage me.
  23. After about 4 days. I didn't feel clear headed enough even though I was not on pain meds, I just drove to pick up my child from camp and went straight home. I was fine but like someone who had one drink, in my level of alertness. I am still less alert and sharp two weeks from surgery, though I drive every day now. Anesthetic definitely affects people.
  24. You didn't gain fat. Who knows what happened? Holding fluids? Give it time; your weight only tells a tiny bit of your fitness story. Frustrating, yes, but surgery was only a month ago. Things are always shifting, water, muscle, digestion...
  25. Our nutritionist said no fruit ever. Basically I don't expect to eat fruit until I am a healthy weight. Not that I don't love fruit, but to me now they are sugar bombs in my mind.
